Update 3
Price dropped to £32.99 - 12/08

Kingston’s A400 solid-state drive dramatically improves the responsiveness of your existing system with incredible boot, loading and transfer times compared to mechanical hard drives. Powered by a latest-gen controller for read and write speeds of up to 500MB/s and 450MB/s¹, this SSD is 10x faster than a traditional hard drive¹ for higher performance, ultra-responsive multi-tasking and an overall faster system.

Also more reliable and durable than a hard drive, A400 is built with Flash memory. There are no moving parts, making it less likely to fail than a mechanical hard drive. It is also cooler and quieter, and its shock and vibration resistance makes it ideal for notebooks and other mobile computing devices.

  • Fast start-up, loading and file transfers
  • More reliable and durable than a hard drive
  • Multiple capacities with space for applications or a hard drive replacement

A400 is available in multiple drive form factors and capacities from 120GB–1.92GB² to give you all the space you need for applications, videos, photos and other important documents. You can also replace your hard drive or a smaller SSD with a drive big enough to hold all your files.

This SSD is designed for use in desktop and notebook computer workloads and is not intended for server environments.

10x faster than a hard drive

With incredible read/write speeds, the A400 SSD will not only increase performance but can also be used to breathe new life into older systems.

Rugged

A400 is shock- and vibration-resistant for rugged reliability when used in notebooks and other mobile computing devices.

Multiple capacities

A400 is available in capacities of up to 1.92TB to suit anyone’s needs

Ideal for desktops and notebooks

A400 comes in 2.5” 7mm and M.2 form factors to fit in a wide array of systems. It is ideal for thin and light notebooks with limited space.

Although I've got one in my laptop, I've never bought/owned an SSD drive for a desktop PC before. How resilient are they to power loss and hard resets the like? It's just I've totalled more than one flash SD card and micro SD card in my day (not always my fault, I should say) due to having to do a hard reset, so I know flash technology is susceptible in this situation. Do these have better circuitry for power loss when they're writing to the drive? Are some better than others in this respect?

Are SSDs now generally regarded as more reliable than mechanical drives?

    Thanks. (edited)

They've been more reliable for about 10 years now.

Companies like Crucial have been fitting power loss prevention to them for years. (edited)

Why on earth do people bang on about time travel for pointing out previous prices. It's precisely how you can tell if something is a geniune deal or not. What a bunch of tools.

Be aware that some owners have reported these make of drives fail from 6 months onwards so always make a backup

Can happen with high end....low end...doesn't matter as one should always backup important data.....if you don't you deserve to lose it

Great price.....but are we still going down in ssd prices as a whole.....probably but who knows what the bottom will be....I for one don't want to 'catch a falling knife' so just averaging into storage stash which is already considerable at this stage (edited)

Can this be used on an xbox series s with an adapter?
    MagicBoy's avatar
Yeah, but only for older 360 and Xbox One games. Series S/X games need the Seagate expansion packs.

Worth noting I had issues with Forza 7 running off one a 480GB A400. Kept corrupting the game world. (edited)
