When I found this, I couldn't resist booking.

The itinerary covers two Scottish mainland stops, Orkney Islands, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland (near Dublin) and France (Le Havre). 4 countries in one cruise with drinks included for £615 when you add the Free At Sea upgrade.

Works out at £68 a night with most alcoholic drinks and food included.

The ship is Norwegian Dawn. Refurbished in 2016 I believe.

After going on my first cruise on P&O Iona in January this year thanks to a similar solo deal found on here, I decided to go on another cruise on MSC Virtuosa shortly after and became hooked on cruising. While Norwegian Dawn is about half the size of Iona or Virtuosa, I'm looking forward to how I find cruising on a ship that isn't quite so big.

Inside cabin at this price. Of course outside and balcony cabins cost more.

Remember that unlike P&O or MSC, gratuities/tips are not included with NCL but you can opt out of gratuities at reception should you wish.

Comes with an internet package of 150 maritime minutes when you're not connected to the mainland terrestrial mobile networks. As this is mainly a UK cruise, there should be no roaming charges when you connect to your normal mobile network on land, but please check with your provider if they include ROI and France.

It'll be time for a new booster roll out soon since the virus is continuously mutating into new and dangerous strains. Oh, wait - that suddenly stopped happening didn't it. :/ hmmm

Hi preecey. Many thanks for posting this. I've been trying to get my wife to agree to a Cruise and we were on my sister-in-laws wee yacht near Oban a couple of years ago when the Iona sailed past us! Amazing sight...how did you find being on the Iona? Is it worth paying the extra for an outside cabin from your new experiences (I thought we would just be sleeping in the cabin so wouldn't bother)? I was also hoping for a Scottish departure ...but there are only a few. Thanks in advance!

When I went on Iona I was in a balcony cabin and on MSC Virtuosa I had an inside one. I only went for a balcony on Iona as it was the same price as an inside or outside at the time which is very uncommon, so naturally I went for it.

Did enjoy the balcony as it was a Spain and Portugal cruise and the weather was great even for January. However perhaps I didn't use it as much as I thought I would since I spent the vast majority of my days either at the port, or on sea days, exploring the ship. I'm also not one for sunlounging as I prefer to be walking about all the time.

I found I slept longer on Virtuosa due to the lack of natural light owing to it being an inside cabin. Had to set an alarm to prevent oversleeping. When the price is right, I'd happily sleep in any cabin type be it inside, outside or balcony. I'll likely never afford anything like a suite.

Iona, her sister Arvia and Virtuosa are in the top twenty largest cruise ships in the world with Iona and Arvia being 9th and 10th respectively. Virtuosa is joint 16th with her sister Grandiosa.

There is so much to do on Iona and Virtuosa that you'll never be bored even if you have several sea days. In fact I believe Iona was at sea for three days before I even stepped foot on land and I never felt bored or fed up.

Although I never used them, Iona has a free cinema and library if you fancy that sort of thing.

The shows on Iona are great. The Headliners Theatre is the largest and a lot of the stuff they put on was visually spectacular and extremely well rehearsed. Some comedy acts in smaller venues like the Club House were so-so when I was on but generally the entertainment was indeed very good to excellent.

So many bars and places to eat on Iona. The Horizon buffet was fine as was The Quays. Definitely give the fish and chips a go!

Unlike most other cruise ships where you only really have a walking/running track on the top decks, Iona has a walking track all round deck 8 as well as the top decks so I found plentiful outdoor areas to walk around on and simply gaze at the horizon.

Iona felt like a relaxing floating city and I can't wait to go on her again, or her sister Arvia. Never once did I feel crowded. There's so much space on her.

I'm looking forward to see how I fare on NCL Dawn in October. She's much smaller than Iona and Virtuosa but I'm sure I'll still love it. (edited)

Norwegian Cruise Line's Premium Beverage Package includes a variety of spirits, cocktails, wines by the glass and bottled or draft beer up to and including $15 USD. Is it unlimited or per day? (edited)

I have been on the Dawn and it is a lovely mid sized ship. Personally I would go with the free at sea package which I believe is half price at the moment. The prices for couples are very very reasonable too: follow the link to see. Cancelling the gratuities is not as easy as it might sound: good luck in trying. This is an absolute bargain: thanks

How much are gratuities and how are they applied, are they a fixed daily rate or payg?

Saying it was refurbished in 2016 doesn’t exactly sell it to me. 2016 was 7 years ago! That isn’t a recent refurb lol

Remember for 3 plus years it was very lightly used: likely 2 laid up

Can you just not get back on the ship on day 9 and stay in Paris longer?
    getmore4less's avatar
You have to arrange that in advance.

It is a fairly common diversion for Americans
Fly into London out from Paris.

what is free at sea ?? please
    getmore4less's avatar
It's a package that bundles a few features for a fee depending on cruise length.

You will often see it referred to as FAS.

    ncl.com/uk/en/cruise-deals/free-at-sea-uk

Very heavy discount on the individual cost of the elements in the package.

Most cruise lines now use an add-on package to bundle extras. (edited)

a 3000-passenger cruise ship generates one million gallons of gray water, 210,000 gallons of sewage and 25,000 gallons of oily bilge water in just 7 days. 63 cruise ships owned by parent company Carnival Corporation emitted 43% more sulfur oxides, a group of harmful air pollutants, than all the 291 million cars in Europe in 2022.
Surely it's just a matter of time before these are green taxed
