A new kind of hotel from Premier Inn

Our idea is simple. Do the essentials brilliantly, then take away everything else. You get a small room, a simple stay and best of all, a price to match – from £21 a night. The first ZIP has just opened in Cardiff, with more coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled for a ZIP near you.

BASICALLY BRILLIANT ROOMS
The flexible rooms can be made up as a single bed, twin single beds or pushed together to make a double. As well as a TV, there’s a small bathroom with a power shower, body wash and a towel, plus handy overhead storage and hangers.

EAT. WORK. CHILL.
Whatever you need ZIP for, we’ll help you get it done. There are drinks and light snacks at the bar, workstations and booths plus free Wi-Fi throughout. There’s also a chill-out area with table football and TV for all the big games. And every morning we serve up breakfast, for just £3.95.

ZIP IN. ZIP OUT.
At ZIP, we make your stay as quick and simple as possible with a no-frills approach. Here’s a bit more info on what to expect:

ROOM CLEANING
While you’re with us, we’ll clean your room every three days. If you’d like it cleaned daily, it’s an additional £10 per day.

IRONING ROOM
There’s a handy ironing room on each floor of the hotel which is free to use.

RANDOM ROOMS
Some rooms have a window. Some have a lightbox. All are basically brilliant. Your room is randomly allocated when you book. (Sorry, you won’t be able to pick.)

ACCESSIBILITY
ZIP is Universally Accessible, with seven bedrooms on the ground floor. The bedrooms are wheelchair-accessible, and have en-suite wet rooms with grab rails, emergency pull cords and more space to manoeuvre.

Just for information, this hotel is a £10-£15 taxi ride from the city centre if that’s a deal breaker. Good bus links, but only until 11pm.
    Peter_BrownHmz's avatar
    That is a significant drawback.

    Room clean – £10?

Yes, if you wanted it done daily. However, they do it free every 3 days.

I used to use this hotel for work when I had to travel to Cardiff. Great for just having somewhere to wash and sleep. No windows can mess around with your perception of time but it was comfortable.

Stayed here last year and thought it was good but felt the cleaning was lacking. The toilet in particular smelt bad, presumably due to it being such a small space #spashes.

If you are staying here then I highly recommend the Quill and Quote at Thackeray pub/restaurant. Excellent food and walkable from the hotel

ahaha calling it a room is barely accurate, its bit like a luxury coffin :-D.
Great price though weve all being and will continue to need exactly that, for instance going out on the p*ss you just need a bed thats not outside....if you can make it here

    "...Not outside"

Speak for yourself, posh lad! 😜

I’ve stayed at this exact hotel and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Yes it’s basic but it was clean and comfortable and nicer than a lot of pub b
& b ‘s I’ve stayed in in the same area which charge 3 times as much so I stick to Zip now!

We stayed in this hotel the night before our friends wedding. My husband was a groomsman. When we told the others we were staying here they all booked rooms too including the groom!
It was perfect, there’s a bar downstairs where we all had a drink together the night before and it was like an 8th of the price of the hotel that was originally suggested!

We stayed here in February and it was one of the quietest and cozy rooms I've slept in. The staff were excellent too. We paid £35 for a Saturday night which was a bargain. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Cardiff

Stayed here late last year, 2 twin rooms across 4 mates travelling for WWE Clash. Ideal for a sleep and shower. No frills and has a bar and some decent snacks on offer

£138 for a Saturday night. Get a proper room for that.

Depends on which month, the pics in the OP from Oct - Dec Saturdays are pretty much all under £35.

But agreed, wouldn't pay over £100 for this

Stayed here when seeing Mickey Flanagan earlier this year.... Would happily stay again.

Yes it was cosy but exactly what we needed for the night and clean to boot.

Food and drinks not priced badly too in the downstairs bar. (edited)

I’ve stayed in this exact hotel when seeing a concert in Cardiff arena. It was about £17 in an taxi to get there from the city.

Room was small with no window. However it was clean and quiet. Fine for 1 or 2 nights. (edited)

We did it and it was just under £30 in total-there and back from the city with Uber.

50706675-2kj2O.jpgJust for people who aren't familiar, yes it's in Cardiff but it's a good 45-50 minutes walk from the center, there is bike hire but not sure if they have docks that far out.

It's a great price and you can definitely make it work, but think about the taxi costs if planning a night out in the centre, as I don't think buses are that great after about 7pm.

Edit ok buses look a but better than I thought but last bus is 11pm ish and you can bet the driver will be keen to finish their shift so no likely to wait if they see you running for it. (edited)
    paulandvicky's avatar
2 x ubers ran us for around £10 each way to the centre so cheap enough if on your own - bargain if more than one of you in the cab

    I think it's a great concept.

    Depending upon individual circumstances*
    highdon's avatar
I agree. Most of the time I just want a bed and a shower.
  15. BeerGoggles's avatar
Great concept, when I go away I don't want to spend my time in a hotel room.
    hcc27's avatar
It is. In Japan, these capsule hotels are where it's at, everyone is used to them. Great price too for Cardiff.

    Heated.

I have stayed in the Premier Inn hubs in London a few times at around £49-£75 a night on Average. But now even them small rooms are on Average £130 a night .
Great price and voted hot (edited)

Great concept, they should invest more in this in other major cities...

Bit claustrophobic for me, is space that much of a premium in Wales? Can see this this sort of thing being handy in Tokyo but Cardiff?!
    Robdataff's avatar
I'll have you know that the tropical paradise known as Wales hasn't actually got much flat land. It's all hills and valleys. Lovely. Flat lands at a premium. Cardiff city have a bit for their grounds, and obviously so do zip, for their coffin class boudoirs.

£21 for parking in Cardiff with a free room to sleep in is a bargain.

Hats off to the Premier Inn this is a great spin on the capsule hotel for the UK market. I think they will do very well with these.

I'd have no problem staying in the likes of this and saving myself alot of money.
  21. tho_nee's avatar
They should start 50 of these in and around London.!!

I thought it was a ferry cabin
    c_1st's avatar
After a skinful in Cardiff centre, it will sway just as much and feel more claustrophobic without even a porthole window

Just booked for the Wales Euro 2024 semi final play off. Matches played on 21st March, very likely Wales will be at in play-offs and at home the way things are going. £14 a night per person with option to cancel 28 days before!

Might help to expand a little so people like the person 2 comments down can get an idea and others can give their opinion who have also visited (edited)
