A very good price on the 4 pack, if you're looking for a well priced solution. I think most compare these against the S7, especially as we've seen fair pricing on those recently. That said, the M4s here are a fair bit cheaper with this deal, so they'll likely make sense for a lot of people, that don't need the extra features of the S7.

Here's the comparison list for the two models.

Delivery is free

APP-BASED SETUP
Installing Deco M4 is fast and easy. Just unpack the system, download the Deco app and follow its onscreen directions.

EASY MANAGEMENT
Manage your Wi-Fi at home or away in the Deco app, including seeing the connected devices, prioritizing your devices, setting up a guest network and more.

VOICE CONTROL
Pair with Alexa to control Deco M4 with simple voice commands. Enjoy the convenient life.

  • Deco uses a system of units to achieve seamless whole-home Wi-Fi coverage — eliminate weak signal areas once and for all!
  • With advanced Deco Mesh Technology, units work together to form a unified network with a single network name. Devices automatically switch between Decos as you move through your home for the fastest possible speeds.
  • A Deco M4 one-pack delivers Wi-Fi to an area of up to 2,000 square feet (EU version). And if that’s not enough, simply add more Decos to the network anytime to increase coverage.
  • Deco M4 provides fast and stable connections with speeds of up to 1167 Mbps and works with major internet service provider (ISP) and modem.
  • Deco can handle traffic from even the busiest of networks, providing lag-free connections for up to 100 devices†.
  • Parental Controls limits online time and block inappropriate websites according to unique profiles created for each family member.
  • Setup is easier than ever with the Deco app there to walk you through every step.

Just FYI on a couple of cons:

They don't work when the Internet is down, so the whole LAN would also go down.

If set to Access Point Mode - in the event of a network outage or power outage, currently they'd come back on still looking to assign IP addresses and would 'fight' with the main router. The only solution is to power down all of the units and main router, then router back on and wait a while before turning the M4s back on.

Well of course they won't work when internet is down.

If you have a power outage wait for the main router to come back on then unplug and plug back in the ethernet cable to the first Deco from your main router and it'll will sort itself out (owner of deco M9s)

What speeds can we get with these on 5 GHz?

    Okay I just tested mine.

One machine connected by ethernet to a second access point in AP mode.
And a Chromebook running Crostini / Linux layer over wireless ac. Using iperf3.

Next to the access point I got close to 400 Mbits/second.

Through a chimney stack in the bathroom next door I got 80 Mbits/second.

Then connecting to the primary AP with the laptop. About 170Mbits/second through one brick wall. The second AP is on the second floor through a wall/floor. So this is using the wireless interconnection between access points.

    Which isn't that bad.

I'm not sure if the Linux emulation/VM will be bad on network performance or not, that's all I had at hand.

Of course that's all local traffic. My WAN speed isn't that fast, so haven't been able to really test these.

These are great for big houses with thick walls, easy to set up and easy to manage parental controls on a per device setup.

That's worth knowing. I've tried Parental Controls of some of TP-Link's lower-end router kit and it's been sketchy at best...

I have the Tp-link AXE75, would these work with OneMesh?
    BucketMan's avatar
No. Tp link seem to have two mesh techs. One mesh and deco. Not if you want a cohesive mesh with your existing router.

Price increased. Still this price on eBay if you hurry. Just ordered.

Seems to be great price for the kit.
How do these compare to BT whole home full size disks ..?

Having had a few mech networks, I would say these are easy to setup and control. Well worth the money for 4

Did u work out what ti do wiv your big purchase yet?

This is a good price. Note though that Tp Link have a back door into your network, and it must be a reverse tunnel, as my pair sits behind a router. That's my main gripe. Performance has been fine. And the spare ethernet slots on them are useful if you have janky wireless on your PC. Mine are in AP mode. I did read at one point people were getting high CPU loads in router mode. Not sure if that bug was fixed.

Sorry what? What does that mean?

Does anyone know if they work OK with Sky Q including multi-room?
    paulsl's avatar
I have my Sky Q main box connected directly to my router as Sky engineer advised mesh connection can be problematic.

The TP link products are great, but beware, they struggle with IOT - namely their own light bulbs... my bulbs keep resetting and I was advised this was a problem with their mesh and to get the very expensive XE75 mesh units to support the bulbs..... not ideal and am looking at a workaround, but aside from that they are great (edited)

Any use? You can create a ‘IOT Network’ that looks like it works only on 2.4 gig specifically for IOT devices

Excuse my ignorance. Can these be wired to each other or do they only connect wirelessly?
    sasuke0's avatar
    Can be wireless or wired
  16. pannan's avatar
Kinda useless depending where your main router is situated as you can't daisy chain them
    dreamypuma's avatar
But still infinitely better than most ISP routers. Wired Backhaul is not critical, but preferable.

If location prevents this, then powerlines would provide a similar effect. If none on these work for your location then it probably not the solution for you.

Still a great product (particularly at this price) for those it works for. (edited)
