The largest Island in all of Thailand, Phuket has everything Thailand has to offer. It is located in southern Thailand, on the Andaman sea coastline. Serviced by the Phuket International Airport, the island sees no dearth of travellers at any time of the year. Golden beaches, numerous offshore islands, upbeat markets, a high-octane nightlife and thrilling watersports characterise Phuket in a nutshell. It is also one of the fastest-accessible beach destinations in Thailand.

Beaches like Surin and Kata cater to families and those individuals with eccentric tastes. Patong beach, on the other hand, caters to all those who like it cheap, loud and crazy, even after the sun sets. Bangla road, with its numerous bars, and street food vendors, comes alive as the night ages. Those who shy away from dizzy bright lights and alcohol will find themselves at the Cabaret shows or even at the ever-popular street markets. The Phuket Walking Street or Phuket Weekend markets are places where one can spend hours sifting through various clothes, souvenirs and novelty items.

Aside from all the glitz and swankiness, Phuket offers many traditional activites and experiences. Enjoying tropical weather all year round, the waters of Phuket come to life, brimming with marine habitats from November to February. Activities like snorkelling and scuba diving can be done at popular and scenic locations such as Phi Phi Islands and Similan Islands, which make for day trips by speedboat. Phuket is also the starting point for visiting many islands like James Bond Island.

Thailand is still a fantastic country. I've visited 3 times and I will still go back again.

The rainy season in Thailand occurs between July and October. (edited)

It's nowhere near as rainy as people make out. It's still hot and humid. There may be a day or two of heavy rain but even those are an experience anything unlike in the UK.

I lived in Thailand for 18 months.

Ive been to 40+ countries and 150+ cities, and Patong has got to be one of the worst places I've ever been.

Absolutely disgusting, and a look into the most depraved aspects of humans. More 'women of the street' than tourists, the worst bars I've ever seen, dirty old 60 year men with child-like thai women. Absolute dump. Never again. (edited)

Yeah Patong is awful. Personally, I dont like Phuket at all. The beaches are beautiful, but its nothing like the rest of Thailand. Phuket is made for tourists.

Booked! My son gets 2 weeks half term at the end of October so 2 weeks in Thailand staying on a 5 star resort for less than it would cost for us to have a holiday in Spain. Weather isn't that bad even in the rainy season it usually only rains at night. Thanks op!

That's a long journey! I suppose the price reflects the travel time.

Confirmed, Thailand is one of the rare places in the world where all you need is hand luggage. Go have fun peeps!

A beautiful island & with cheap taxis, areas like Krabi & Khao lak are accessible very easily & cheap. Thai Baht is doing ok too at around 42 to the pound.

My only concern would be weather. I wouldnt go on holiday between end of May until early December. Weather should be wet.
Air fare has increased so much the past couple years, this is a great deal unless you want to sun bathe.
