Continental Grand Prix 700x25c folding bike tyre

PolyX Breaker Technology

With their PolyX Breaker, Continental bring PKW know-how to the bike tyre arena – Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tyres and been tried and tested many times. The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswire making a very high fabric density which not only makes the Breaker more resistant to foreign objects but is also resistant to punctures. The rolling resistance is not affected either by the PolyX Breaker.

BlackChili Compound

Continental refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. They use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. BlackChili Compound reaches an unprecedented level of performance. Tyres with BlackChili Compound reach an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, BlackChili tyres have 26% less rolling resistance, a 30 % higher friction value (grip) and a 5 % increase in mileage.

TPS TyrePositioning System

The narrower front tyre (22mm) provides reduced wind resistance and better handling. An adhesion-optimised tread mixture supplies the necessary grip, especially for wet cornering. The wider rear tyre (24mm) offers better traction thanks to a larger contact area and at the same time more comfort. Thanks to the fast-rolling, optimised tread mixture and larger contact area on the rear tyre, wear is reduced. The result is a pioneering front and rear tyre system for road racing – to be found in Conti’s GP Attack and Force tyres/tubs.

This is thanks to extensive road and laboratory testing, which have resulted in tangible benefits to modern road cyclists.

if anyone wants GP5K's with tan side walls....they were cheaper when I bought from BikeInn even with shipping from Germany and with zero tax/import duty (stated on their site to UK)

black on black is slightly cheaper for the same size (I bought 30mm) but I was happy to get them with the tan walls...this was for the tubeless-ready ones FYI

Can second for BikeInn as although based in Spain they have warehouses they ship from in the UK and are part of same company (TradeInn) that also have RunnerInn etc. as offshoots

23mm tyres are NOT the right width for 90% of riders.

The 4 seasons really are worth the extra

Not if you want a really good low rolling resistance tyre. GP5000 are one of the best.

£49.99 for the 5000 S TR too. That's really good. They were difficult to get hold of for <£70 recently.

that's a steal for the S TR, merlin and sigma were £63 last week

    Not tubeless?

    Nah.

I've got Gatorskins - is it worth swapping them out for these?
    Petoz's avatar
If you want far better rolling resistance, yes. If you need better puncture protection, no.

Some tyres even brand names are not the sizes they claim them to be when one puts the calipers on the bubble part of the tyre, are these correct are preferable a tiny bit wider as am looking for a comfort one for shop and local journeys?
    Petoz's avatar
Will depend on the internal rim width of your wheel. Tyres will measure slightly different on different wheelsets.

Nice deal, shame the 32mm GP5000AS aren't on sale, but I suppose that 32-38mm is probably the most popular size range right now.

I think 28 is the most popular one, judging by the stock levels (3-4 years ago the issue was with 25s and now I see 28s OOS very often for conti tyres). Also since some pro cyclists fit 28s in some races people have realized that those stories about wider tyres being much slower were not very true.

Unless your bike can't fit larger tyres I would always advise against anything smaller than 28C and personally perfer wider.

Why do you say this? I've been running 25s for over 10 years and came from 2 inch MTB at the time, didn't have any issues other than confidence, genuinely interested in your thoughts, definitely not griping
