    What's a "GAMING router" ?

LEDs that make the router perform better.

Keep an eye out on Amazon Germany. I got GT ax6000 yesterday for £169...

New or used? New they're £198 at the moment

I've got the TUF version ax5400. Two of them in fact. Happened across a amazon deal a year and a half ago to get both for £150. Absolute beasts of routers. Highly recommend.

Got two of these one of each version, setup in AiMesh.

How are they performing? Upgrading from ac68u which is absolutely brilliant but it's time to move on, so planning on using both in mesh.

I got this from CEX for £75. Instead of sending me the correct router they just plucked one out that had Asus AX5400 i assume . I’m not complaining though.

Think they do, you can quite easily check on their website.

Ooh I have the dsl version of this router with the built in fibre modem and it’s a great router. Seriously considering adding this one as a mesh to extend the range. Had no issues with the dsl-ax5400 so far, very good performance

It's not a fibre modem as it's not needed, it's a DSL modem...

Thanks hukd 🤌 there's much talk about modems on here but nothing about this particular one. Perfect thanks

I don't like this trend of 'gaming' grade stuff. What does a digital media professional need for shifting uncompressed 4K videos over network drives? is it this? It's a minefield!

I would say no, im not a network professional, but i would suggest a wired network built around a 10gbe switch for your lan traffic, using cat6a cabling. This router would provide up to 1gbe on one port only, which is fine to provide up to 1gbe internet to your switch, and wifi 6 for your other devices.

I had 2 of these was not bad. But found the ui to be buggy and not reliable. Would recommend looking into unifi or omada instead. Last time I checked open wrt was also not supported on this model although a branch might be now as I remember it being in dev

Used to be a big Asus fanboy but the OS / UI sucks. Technicals on this router are strong but I swapped to Google Nests and don't have to reboot / troubleshoot my routers anymore

What’s the ac speed on these? I don’t have a lot of WiFi 6 devices.

I have a higher end model from Asus that somehow looks even more like an alien mothership.

I've gone from having to reset my stock Virgin Router once every couple weeks to having only reset once in the past 18 months and even getting a weak but useful signal at the far end of the garden.

I'm no expert, but from my research at the time, the recommendation seemed to be to go for a high end router like this if you're a gamer, and to go for something like a Google or Netgear mesh system if you're not.

I bought this - sending back. Speed is good sometimes. I have a 900 bt fibre. I can get 750mb if I am right next to it, but also 450mb if I tested again.

i personally am looking for dns over https - this cannot take Merlin, so the best it can do is dns over tls. I’m also having to use a very noisy electrical circuit to get my Google doorbell (down a couple of flights). It’s impressive one floor down though- 350-400mbs. - via powerline adaptor).

bought an rt-ax88u pro which I am hoping will have a stronger signal. Also hopefully a faster vpn wireguard client. This is £251 (so significantly more) via warehouse deals in Germany.
