Can someone explain why you would spend so much on this when it's such an old system and only Wifi 6? If you're spending this much, wouldn't you go for a newer Wifi 6E setup? There are Wifi 6E mesh systems cheaper than this for sale so I really don't understand? The current mesh market is so confusing

Quality of the system. The main thing with Mesh systems is that if you're using wireless backhaul, then you want the signal between the nodes to be as strong as possible especially if you have FTTP connection.

This ASUS is considered to be top notch in that department. I've not got this system but I've got a decent 2 node Mesh System that can via Wireless backhaul handle a 1Gb FTTP connection. 2 nodes are placed a floor apart and opposite corners of a 3 bed house, 25ft maybe apart as the crow flys, through multiple walls. And I get full 1Gb speeds using Wireless backhaul with the devices connected via ethernet to the 2nd node.

Bought a cheap 3 node system and had the 2nd node half way between in hopes of getting maximum speed to the 3rd node and speeds were the same at the 3rd node location as if I was connected to the supplied ISP router via WiFi. I was using ethernet on the 3rd node for the devices.

If you have slower internet and not FTTP then you may not notice the difference between a cheap Mesh and more expensive one but once you get FTTP then you definitely can spot a bad one. (edited)

Can also put Merlin firmware on these now, so this is a cracking deal

It’s not hugely different but is really good for people who use VPN and DNS services regularly. I can now watch Hulu, Peacock US and youtube tv seamlessly without hassle.

    Oh, nice price!

I bought 8 of these on an Amazon misprice for £700ish. Kept 4 and sold the other 4 for almost £600

Really good performance on these and the app is good.

Wow, didn';t spot that deal! Yep I paid £350 for a pair of these about two years ago, but also got £60 cashback from Asus (which took a lot of chasing to get paid out).

What does it mean protect it well with a lightning conductor?

No idea. I just copy and pasted the Amazon UK description.

Assuming it’s meant to be referring to the inbuilt ASUS security

This is a superb price! Shame the black version is a little bit more - might still bite though at €325...

Apart from the slightly increased speeds, is there any difference between these and the newer XT9s?
    Master_Yoda's avatar
Looking online alot of people had issues with these XT8's including constant disconnections etc. and returned them. They had no issues with the XT9's

Actually it was 29/08/2021 (purchased from Box) at £307, and I think it was £75 cashback.

One of the best mesh systems out there. Brilliant deal.

Managed to pick up this for 329 from the amazon warehouse. Been on hols so was going to set up today.

Any thoughts on which is better 6e vs 6 aside?

I’m a bit confused- are these a router or do you add them to an Asus router set up as an AI mesh node? I’ve got a few ASUs routers in Mesh mode around the house but can’t seem to beat the dead spot between my house and the detached garage we’ve converted to an office. Would these help?

    Superb find!

If I’d have seen this a couple of days ago, I’d have bought. Instead, I have an ‘acceptable’ warehouse deal for ASU’s et-ax88u pro coming tomorrow from Amazon Germany for £200… will be adding Merlin and using dns over https + mullvad wireguard client. Hopefully it’ll have the strength to also get my Google doorbell and I can send back the powerline adapter

Does this come with a EU plug? Easily replaceable?

Yes it does. But can get a replacement uk ‘clip on’ adapter

APD2 UK is what you need

Can someone confirm something. I ordered these from this thread and was shocked to find Asus is refusing to give ANY warranty on the product. This was sold as having a 3 Year Warranty and was not cheap. Asus are saying it has NO WARRANTY at all as we bought it from outside the UK and they are saying it's 'grey goods' and that Amazon EU is an unofficial seller?? I have argued with them about this and got nowhere - they are refusing to budge an inch and acting like total criminals. Their staff have been extremely unprofessional throughout my dealings with them and it will certainly be the last time I ever buy an Asus product. I've never dealt with worse customer services in my life and I'm scared how they are in business. Basically if we get a problem we are totally screwed - they are refusing to give any product support.

Also all the unboxing videos I saw online showed different plug adapters in the box for ALL regions, so I'm really confused why ours only had a 2 pin EU adapter in the box. (edited)

Didn't know ASUS not honouring the 3 year warranty. And Amazon EU is a grey company (must be joking) Did u drop a msg to Amazon to clarify it.
