2G only and they normally don't actually have GPS. And rely on the vague mast triangulation/GSM location which is why the accuracy is 500m not 5m. (edited)

These have have nothing to do with gps. They use cell tower triangulation, they are absolutely terrible.

If you think this is a good way to track luggage, you’re nuts. You would need a 2g SIM card with roaming to allow it to receive and send sms messages.

Utterly pointless and a genuine waste of even this small amount of money.

I have a Salind 11. Its rather large but has a 3 month battery life. Accuracy is amazing right down to street and what house I am parked outside. Just checked and surprisingly its only 2G like this one.

Might be good for keeping track of your luggage when flying also.

Just get a Samsung tag or tile in your suitcase then you don't need a Sim card

Apple air tag or Samsung for a tracker all day long for me. I have an AirTag in the Jag rather than a standard tracker , the coin cell battery is 18 months old still going. I had one of these when they first hit the market and you had to get a SIM card and keep it topped up with credit.

AirTags rely on being in close proximity to an iPhone in order to report back their position. Also they will warn anyone with an iPhone that moves with the tag that they are possibly being tracked i.e. if someone with an iPhone steals your jag, they will be alerted they are being tracked. I’m not saying the tracker in this post is better, just pointing out the limitations of the AirTags.

You might also want to look at this lightning deal for £6 at Amazon for comparison (Amazon merchant doesn't meet HUKD'S criteria for deal submission)

    Yeah cheap and terrible
GPS or any satellite tracking would be a better option

One doesn't want to pay for subscription for the limited specific usage of such devices.

If you think letting your insurance know that you have a tracker and you would think that would be helpful and maybe even get cheaper insurance. Think again. Keep this for yourself. Includes all trackers even ones only on insurance list.
    penthaus's avatar
Why would that be disadvantages to your policy in your insurers eyes?
