EasyJet Flight Cancellation Compensation question

Hi All,

Had a really awful experience with Easyjet and want to get some guidance on compensation.

Flight details - London Gatwick to Murcia Spain on Thursday 24th August. Passengers boarded as per the schedule time - 17:30. Pilot informed the passengers that there is currently travel restriction in place due to the bad storm/ weather between UK and French coast and that is causing delay to the flight and we are in a queue and waiting for a slot to depart. Long story short they cancelled our flight after 4hours and all these time everyone was sitting inside the aircraft and had to wait another 2hours to get the checked bags. I was travelling with a 10 weeks old baby and it was such a nightmare.

Even though east jet was blaming it on the bad weather meanwhile British airways/ veuling and other airlines were flying in that direction and doing some Googling this bad weather seems like an excuse for easyJet to cancel the flights as the real reasons could be staff shortage/ staff going above the allowed shift durations and give the passengers the typical like “The disruption to your flight is outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance.”

Our whole plan got ruined and the earliest we could fly out through east jet was Saturday 26/08 as the flight prices was ridiculous to fly out next day and all.

This whole experience of sitting 4hrs inside the flight with a 10 week old and the wait 2hrs to get the checked bags and then travelling bk home at midnight was an absolute nightmare and I really want to know how to get the compensation money from these lot as they are treating people really bad !

Could someone share any experience dealing with easyJet to claim the compensation back on flight delays they categorised as outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance.

I’ve already put a claim through easyjet and waiting to see what they says not holding any hope as they already confirmed via email it’s outside there Control !

Thanks

    Thunderstorms were on the day.

Best of luck. Surely the should have put you on their next flight without extra costs.

The situation I faced is pretty much explained in this article and how can they getaway with it ? (edited)

But you are asking on a deals site when you already know what direction you are going.

Not quite sure why you are asking on here when you are in possession of the information you require?

Did you have any travel insurance? Some insurers would pay out, could likely be a lesson learnt unfortunately.

There are many factors coming into play here (airport congestion at either end, route related weather, flight duty time limits, etc) but if the airline said it is weather related (and this does have a cascading effect), then there is no additional compensation due. Weather does change frequently and rapidly, and every airline has its own rules about handling it.

What I’m annoyed is how come individual airlines can make decisions on weather when the air traffic control who actually authorise flight movements authorise movements. In this 21st century airlines can access weather information to plan the trips and put relevant mitigations in place I.e cancel it few hours before rather than keeping people inside the flight for 4hours fully boarded and then cancel.

You will not get compensation if there truly was bad weather.

You won't get anything as it was bad weather. Would you rather the airline take you and are potentially involved in a plane crash?

Appreciate they are using weather as the excuse, but how does other airlines fly at the same time on the same route ? British airways / veuling / Ryanair. I fully appreciate if no flight is leaving Gatwick airport and there is a flight ban cos of the bad weather well that’s not the case is it ? It’s clearly mentioned in the daily mail article when easyJet cancelled so many flights and blamed it on storm meanwhile British airways haven’t cancelled a single flight in the same route ! Surely bad wether is applicable to every airline ? Maybe I’m missing something ?

Did the aircraft leave the gate and push back at all or was it just sat there with doors open awaiting further info?

I had a case a few months ago where I didn’t think I’d have a chance due to a drone being involved in many other dramas but I submitted the eu261 claim and was very surprised I got the compensation cash back within 2 weeks

I was held in crete fire 9h on the same day. They cancelled the flight after 9h after the pilot couldn't then fly. They are blaming weather on ours but in reality the plane was damaged by lightening the few days before but they didn't check it for damage. Trouble with crew missing taker off slot 3x ended up nearly without a hotel for our 2 year old in crete. No help with transfer or anything. I'm definitely making a claim on mine. (edited)
