Which network does Talkmobile use?

Talkmobile runs on the Vodafone network so you'll get 99.9% population coverage.

Will there be a price rise in 2023?
No, Talkmobile will not be raising prices on monthly plans in 2023. Out of plan charges (e.g roaming, international rates) excluded. Future years subject to CPI+3.9%.

Can I keep my number?
Yes, just enter your details under the 'Switching Network?' section when checking out. Alternatively, you can move your old phone number across later, once your new SIM card arrives.

Will my new SIM card work in any phone?
All UK mobile phone companies are closing their 3G networks to focus on strengthening their newer networks and providing faster, better quality services.

At Talkmobile we are saying goodbye to 3G in 2023. If you currently rely on 3G, we don't want you to lose your connection. Our 4G and 5G networks come with loads of great benefits, from faster internet speeds to improved call quality.

Visit our 3G switch off page to find out what your options are.

To get the Halifax deal - do I need to do anything special? I've paid for it with DD on my Halifax card? (thank you btw)

Can confirm the cap has been removed. Using the same network testing tool that showed the 150Mbps cap before now shows 1000Mbps like with a Vodafone SIM.

I wonder if lebara are unrestricted now too as they usually always the cheapest.

50908421-IFRTN.jpgConfirmation that TalkMobile have a 150Mbps speed cap on their plans in case anyone was wondering. Yeah it’s a lot but not unrestricted and people can get higher elsewhwre

Exact same location and phone. TalkMobilr showing max 150 available and get 90.

Vodafone SIM in and shows can get up to 1000 and get 310

Definitely capped which won't be a bad thing for lots of people 150 is still plenty but just confirming there is a restriction to anyone interested

I'm with Talkmobile currently, so just went on their chat service and asked if I can upgrade to this offer and they did it straight away, £16 unlimited everything, monthly contract. Have to wait 24 hours for confirmation text that it's changed over.

That's fine it's a 30-day contract anyway, so just find a better deal elsewhere if you need to

Is it Defo unlimited or. Fair usage limits of capped speeds With talk mobile?

I only see the £13.95 plan nothing bigger with the link. (edited)
  7. plunet's avatar
Why is a newly minted mobile network focusing on talk in their name, especially when there is an existing one to get confused with? Isn't talking a bit last century? Wouldn't datamobile be a better name?

Talkmobile has been around for years...

I believe it is, I couldn't find anything to the contrary regarding speeds being capped with talkmobile.

Do they have EU roaming charges?
    samboy08's avatar

You have to buy boosters for roaming, as it's not included.

Do they do credit checks on this 30 day sim only order ?
    MrWhit's avatar
Do I need a credit check to get a Talkmobile SIM only deal?
No. When you apply directly to Talkmobile for one of our cheap SIM only deals, we won’t credit check you but do carry out an ID check. We just need to know you are who you say you are.

I got this from what someone said over at the isp forum - "I have a Lebara and Voxi sim in hand.

I ran tests on my ZTE MC888 one after the other in same location.
Both with same APN (wap.vodafone.co.uk)tested with speedtest.net.

    Voxi - 440mbps
Lebara - Starts at 240 settled down to 180 ish

So I can definitely say some sort of speed capping is occurring."

I’m getting OK speeds on Talkmobile today. It doesn’t look like it’s capped

    SamGarton's avatar
Yes tethering is allowed generally on talkmobile
  17. Mackem-in-boro's avatar
Noticed this deal on uSwitch last night for £16. I'm with Talkmobile already and looking for more data to stream TV. Was checking on their website this morning and it's £32 for unlimited data.

And 12 month contract too in addition to your comment when buying direct.

Does this sim allow Personal Hotspot. Yes they do. Just read the blurb. (edited)
  19. SLukeS's avatar
Is this deal OK to use the sim in a 4g router and use as a replacement for my overpriced virgin media broadband service?
    AMJensen's avatar
Assuming you get good speeds from Vodafone in your area then yes, absolutely
  20. B7869's avatar
Can anyone else who has this deal please confirm what speeds they are getting on 5G? Someone has said it is restricted to 150 Mbps but the pre contract they gave me says speeds are as fast as my device allows. I also spoke to them on the chat and they also said there are no speed restrictions (edited)
    Daniel_Carter's avatar
My sim came yesterday. Tried in town today and got 89 download. Vodafone sim same phone same location same time got 310. Used my network testing app that shows things you can’t normally see and shows the APN used to connect to the internet has a 150 limit which is why I never got higher than this
  21. DysproziaX's avatar
    Great deal!

I’m rural and tested out all networks. Where I am, Vodafone is best network. I have 4G router for all my devices at home, and up until today I was on ASDA Mobile (Vodafone MVNO) £24 a month for unlimited on their fastest plan.

No Fair Use on Talkmobile. This saves me £8 a month for exactly the same speed and network.

I suppose EE would be faster, but they and all MVNO on EE have either a 600 or 300 GB fair use. People say that you’ll never reach that, but that is not true if your using a 4G (or 5G) Router. Because the speed is faster, you’ll automatically reach that fair use quicker too! (edited)
  22. B7869's avatar
Looks like TalkMobile has removed the cap?

So I tried this SIM and speeds are uncapped and Vodafone WiFi works on London's tube stations. So Def recommend this over Vodafone.
    rev170's avatar
So Talkmobile works with Vodafone Wi-Fi on TFL? Tempted to pull the trigger on this but underground Wi-Fi is a dealbreaker and having difficulty confirming access anywhere.

Great post . Finally an unlimited plan for under £20 that isn't on the Three network. Three is good where I live but having a rival using an alternative network is good for competition

    Good Deal.
I'm with talkmobile, and I have never had a problem yet.
I know it's not "unlimited" but I also just found a deal with 70 GB data unlimited Calls/Texts for £9.95.
    That'll do me (edited)
  38. Daniel_Carter's avatar
Ordered myself, one of these to give it a go, especially for £16 if it is truly unlimited and not speed restricted would be a great alternative for a lot of people. I’ve got a phone that I’ve routed and have access to network testing tools so when it arrives, I’ll have a look to see if there’s anything going on with any speed capping or differences between Vodafone and Talkmobile
    Mackem-in-boro's avatar
I was with Vodafone for 22 years and I get same speed/ coverage with Talkmobile, been with them a few months now and they switched me from 30GB a month to unlimited even though I couldn't upgrade until November. They've been excellent so far.
  39. Satta_JATT's avatar
They used to offer unlimited data plans years ago but then changed them. In my case it was changed to 40gb which was later upgraded to 100gb. (edited)

I put one of these sims in a work phone and get multiple customers  saying they can’t call or text.
time to get a pac code.
