Very difficult to argue with this price. How many other brand new machines can last over 14 hours on battery in real life condistions? This is much quicker than the previous Duet thankfully. How much for the 8GB Ram version?

    Hot from me. (edited)

It's fine for what it is I have a 2020 4gb chrome book and its good for general stuff.

Loads of brilliant second-hand lappy deals, and then we have laughable junk like this. Here's a clue for the clueless. Why do you think Chromebooks tend to have joke specs compared to much cheaper mobile phones? They are both ARM SoC platforms, but Google knows the peeps who tend to buy Chromebooks know NOTHING about tech, so they exploit them to the max with laughable bottom end hardware.

The Netbook/Chromebook/Raspberry Pi projects came about during Intel's horrible dominance in PC hardware, where even the cost of a rubbish PC was thru the roof. Intel has fallen, and its monopoly gone. Now you can get superb deals for amazing prices, IF you understand performance specs.

Your opinions are your opinions, no more no less. I agree 8gb is the sweet spot for Chromebooks going forward, but these 4GB models are perfectly usable for pupils/students/web browsers etc. Generalising all Chromebook buyers as knowing "nothing" is very narrow minded, but perhaps many buyers prefer a Chromebook as they need zero IT knowledge for that very reason, no drivers or endless windows updates to contend with. The whole purpose of a Chromebook is access, not FPS or 4K screens etc.

Don't bother with anything lower than 8GB RAM now. All these Chromebook deals are for slow 4GB models they're trying to sell off.

The 8gb was also down from 399 to 289, 259 for students, how come they're selling the 8gb one off too?

Should we really be aiming for 12gb+ (edited)

This is a great device. Loving mine. It's fast and just works. Be careful you order the right pen though! I use mine as a portable device for work and use virtual desktop (Windows 10) for work. With a seperate usb-c port/Hub thing, I connect to a external screen. Works a treat. I paid £179 for mine, so total bargain.
