Fly drives do exactly what they say on the tin – you get a flight over the pond and a set of wheels thrown in. So, if you fancy exploring on your own, you can mix up motels and hotels each night and do something different every day. You could be shaking hands with Mickey one morning and roller-blading along Miami’s sidewalks the next. You see, fly drives give you the total freedom to do things your way, at your own pace. Perfect if you don’t want to be based in just one place. And what’s so good about a TUI Fly Drive is that we give you unlimited mileage so you can really hit the open road. Plus, you won’t get stung by any of those nasty ‘out-of-state’ driving charges. In true road-trip style, you can Thelma and Louise your way across the States.

What Happens on a Fly Drive?

We’ll fly you out to Florida where you’ll be met by a TUI Advisor. They’ll point you in the direction of the car hire people and set you on your way. After that, it’s totally up to you. Theme parks. Everglades. Shopping malls. It’s all there for the taking. At the end of your stay, you just need to head back to the airport, hand over your keys and check-in for your flight home. It’s that easy.

In order to hire the car, you have to take out the rental insurance that can be pre-booked or paid for locally. Remember, each driver needs to present a valid driving licence and a credit card in the driver’s name which serves as a security deposit.

Anybody know what the additional insurance cost is for the hire car?

As in a previous post. I honestly would say anything between £800 and £1000. Worst idea for car hire. Please please ensure you take out a Fully Inclusive CDW with no excess. Nothing less will do. A minor scratch will blow your credit card to pieces. Please !!!!

Not a deal in my opinion by any means. Car insurance and all the extras will make a serious dent in your wallet. Multiply everything by 14. The summary above is misleading as it says self catering included but this is a fly drive so hotels are an extra, huge expense. I can only assume this is voted hot by people who have never visited the USA let alone last minute. I believe some AMEX charge cards cover all car rental insurance or you can take stand alone excess insurance in the UK but this may not be recognised by everyone in the USA. This is also to Melbourne airport.Florida, not Orlando if this is a concern. Also ESTAS, UK airport parking.travel insurance and gas all add up, not to mention food and weather concerns at this time of year. Been visiting the states for 35 years.Good luck!

You make a point about extra costs, but what would you normally spend on car hire flights to somewhere similar (or the same)?

Great time to visit the state with all the bad weather and hurricanes/floods .. its' cheap for a reason. May sure you have good travel insurance to cover any extra days holiday you may need due to flights not being able to land etc.

Revolut covers car insurance excess if you get a premium or metal account. Then you get all the other benefits too… no brainer.

2 adults and 2 children, these companies are encouraging parents to take their kids out of school!

People complaining, just use this as a flight only, jeez for under £300pp return flights is crazy cheap. Hotels in idrive area are cheap enough, no need to take the car

If you've been before, be ready for a shock now when you see the prices, especially in the parks.

Fancy a 300ml bottle of Bud? $11.99+tax. How about small cup of Dipping Dots to cool you down? Same price.

In fairness, they were giving you free tap water a few weeks ago when it was roasting hot.

It's a good deal based on the flight only including luggage.
If you want car hire just forget the TUI one and buy elsewhere from places such as DFCH, US Car Hire or AutoEurope where all appropriate insurance is included in the cost.
