Would love to visit NY, but what puts me off going to NY is the service charge when dining out

I'm being completely serious here, just go to McDonalds and other big fast food chains. Not only is it fun to see the alternative menus to the UK but also really good value plus NO TIP REQUIRED

For example, you could go to McDonalds in TImes Square. get a really cheap meal for everyone (with no tip) then sit by the window upstairs for probably one of the best views in Manhattan watching the world go by in Times Square. If you want another drink, get it delivered to you epic view table...

Was in NY few months back and it is unbelievably expensive. Also, the constant stink of weed everywhere combined with the stench from the sewers/underground is pretty nauseating especially if it is warm. Still enjoyed my trip but won't be rushing back.

I think if people don't know where the good cheap places to eat are I agree with you.
I go once per month for work and can find healthy good food for around $9-10 each time.

Granted the Pret next to my office charges $8.99 for the Chicken & Avo sandwich that the UK does for about 3.50.

Its all about just knowing where to go. I can drink $25 cocktails in rooftop bars if I want, Or I can take you to a dive bar in Manhattan that sells $5 Budweisers which are 1 Litre.

Its like any city, just avoid the tourist hotspots and its a delightful city.

I've been several times and I'm going again at the end of the month, it's only expensive if you choose to got to pricey venues - there are plenty of places you can eat which are on par with what you pay over here.

it is true about accomadation, unless you get a deal to visit in the less appealing months then hotels are crazy. I would say an airbnb in Queens would have been doable. But the recent rulings has killed that.

How do uou get around the recent rule changes then? We stayed in brooklyn Airbnb last time but what would we do for next time? Hotels are too expensive

Plenty of benches in Central Park to sleep on if you're on a budget...

Shame Aerlingus don't do London to NY. Much nicer flight than ba or Virgin!

A few days ago a NY State judge threw out Airbnb NYC appeal, hosts have to rent over 30 days to someone or have guests live with the host in same apartment. Plenty of cheap places to eat, with a bit of knowhow & planning. (edited)

Very good deal, my only thing would be that aer lingus service has gone shocking. Delayed flights and cancellation happening much more often
