oh look a quick google ... this unique yet attractive-looking fruit has a sweet taste closely similar to a peach or banana. It's also often compared to lychee, which in a way similar interior texture. Mangosteen is relatively refreshing with a slight hint of tanginess. It's also acidic, like oranges and lemons.
It has thick, dark green, glossy leaves, 15–25 cm (6–10 inches) long, borne in opposite pairs along the stem, and large rose-pink flowers. The fruits are the size of a small orange, round or flattened on the ends

This fruit is really good but also very disappointing. Out of 4 you'll probably get 1 or 2 that is okay to eat. They taste amazing if you get ones that aren't off.

Yea, it’s really tasty but really hard to get fresh and nice one. My friend bought me one pack last week and it was only 3-4 was ok and nice. If you have chance to travel in Malaysia, Indo or Thailand, you can try the fresh one, it’s cheap and yummmmmmy

These were available everywhere back when I lived in Sing. I'm a great lover of tropical fruit (jack fruit, proper Alphonso mangoes, custard apples, even the dreaded durian!) but I was never a fan of mangosteens. They look interesting but taste wise are indistinguishable from lychees. A bit like dragon fruit...pretty but bland.

Agree about dragon fruit but i've been told they can vary quite a lot and can be really nice so maybe we've both had bad ones. I really like mongosteens so maybe i've had the good ones of those.

This is a really good price. It’s used to be £12 for a pack of 4 big ones or 6 small ones at Costco not long ago. Local Indian shops may have it fresher and cheaper. My local one had it for £13/kg last summer for good quality mangosteens. Stay away from hard ones. If hard/tough, they are old and rotten inside.

Durian is King of fruit and Mangoteen is Queen of fruit.

Sadly where I come from most people don’t eat this fruit. We use the seeds to make oil and skin to make kokum. Kokum is a souring agent in food and also imparts red colour.

Wife used to live in Sri Lanka (she's English) and swears by these.

I was underwhelmed though, I must say
