The Black Crush and IPS glow on this device are criminal. Has nobody here actually looked up the issues the tablet has? How can this get so much heat.

Is there really no deals to the point where this is hot?

Is this not cheaper on AliExpress?
    AMROAMRO's avatar
Yes I can confirm that bought one on Aliexpress last week and received a fake no name one with v poor spec.. cost a lot to send back to china and lost cost of shipping and duty still waiting for refund

Nice, would be tempted by this, but picked up a Redmi pad a few months back for slightly less. This is more powerful but the only thing it's lacking is a micro SD slot, which is handy on this type of device if you need to load it up on music, movies , d/d'd YouTube etc.
    one_eight_seven's avatar
USB sticks/drives/adapters easily solves that issue!
  4. BigBellyNelly's avatar
Can anybody recommend something like these with this sort of spec but with a micro SD slot, and something around an 8" screen. My wife like 11" but i've always been happy with 8"

Isnt this about 2 years old so not long for support patches to end.
    Smm0's avatar
What support does your tab need really.
  6. totalrecall1's avatar
What's the android support for this one? I'm finding conflicting info online. 3 major updates and 4 years of security?
    Computerman's avatar
OS updates have been fairly slow. Android 13 upgrade took several months longer than the samsung Tab S7. Also this tablet does not have GPS. I got it when they had it on offer witht he xiami pen which is also inferior to the samsung s pens. But if you wnat a cheap tablet with decent performance this is it. I would try stretch to the pad 6 if you want longer OS updates. (edited)

    This vs Samsung tab s6?
    tjc2005's avatar
This imo. We have one, and I own a tab s7+, the xiaomi is smoother in day to day operations.

For the screen, the Samsung. But you'd be hard pressed to notice unless you had them side by side. (edited)

Is this ok with widevine L1. I know the description says comes with L1 but seen Reddit posts of the opposite.
    Atheos's avatar
It has L1 ( owned it 18 month's ). Dolby Vision has been lost lately though, although apparently Netflix has been notified about it
  11. Django1's avatar
does it work only with the Xiaomi smart pen (OOS) or anything else (any recs would be great)
Any decent cover recommendation for this?
    briandead21's avatar
It will work to a certain extent with 3rd party pens, but you lose the screen grab function, I believe. It should also be noted that the pen response is a bit laggy. If that's fixed with real xiaomi pens, I can't say
  12. thecresta's avatar
Is HDR playback still really dark on this tablet? Seeing the reports online really put me off, especially seeing as you can't turn it off in some apps.

Edit: Seeing online that later updates introduced bugs that made this even worse, and also made the UI awful. I can't see any recent comments saying they have fixed this. Very hesitant to spend this much on a tablet that can only play dark or washed out video. (edited)
    cman1's avatar
Xiaomi pad 6 fixed the issue
  13. nonnygb's avatar
Does this have video out? I'm really used to using Dex and video out on my Samsung s5e so kinda need that in any upgrade
    thecresta's avatar
Not that I can see, only has a usb port and there is no HDMI over USB.

Is it better then iPad Air 2020?
    kratos2019's avatar
No. The only benefits this has over an ipad air 2020 is possibly more storage and it may be a bit easier transferring files to a windows PC, But the ipad will do everything else better.
  18. kratos2019's avatar
Tempting. But for a bit more I could get an ipad 9. Which is faster and has a better user experience. Tough call. Also only the white pearl version is available.

50996614-iVMLB.jpgI ended up canceling with DPD directly that was the only way. Instead of this i got the Lenovo Legion Y700 2023 and will make a gaming handheld from it with a custom case thats being made for it see below pics.
    Craig1476's avatar
Would love to see some photos of this when finished, where did you order the case from?

Is it worth getting the Xiaomi Pad 6 over this? The 128gb/8gb CN version with a global rom isn't much more expensive than this so just wondering if anyone has any views? (edited)

Based on numbers, 6 is about 20% more than 5

Really well made, the toddler has been thrashing it for 18 months and it hasn't missed a beat. Dropped on wood, tiles etc with a basic screen protector and case and it's taken in all.

Mine was delivered today. Thank you for the great deal. But I need to think twice before I keep it due to the HDR issue.
