Description
The GEL-SONOMA 6 G-TX running shoe is designed for the great outdoors. Taking inspiration from the ASICS trail running family, this shoe is a versatile offering that's functional for trail runs, light hiking, and other outdoor adventures. We also used fewer resources to color the sockliner for a more sustainable design approach. This updated version of our trail shoe is complemented with a GORE-TEX upper to help keep feet dry in wet conditions.

The focus this season was to improve the fit of the upper, so we implemented a new last design that provides a more secure midfoot and heel fit, while the wider toe box allows the toes to spread out. The synthetic stitching on the overlays is designed to improve durability while also helping feet stay secure and reduce slipping.

Underfoot comfort stems from a full-length AMPLIFOAM midsole and GEL technology cushioning unit that's placed where runners need the most impact absorption. To increase the softness with every step, we've included an ORTHOLITE sockliner for excellent comfort. Additionally, the multi-directional grip outsole improves traction on a variety of surfaces.

All of these comfort components are complemented by durable properties, such as the solid rubber outsole—making this shoe a versatile choice for the trails.

I got these for £43 delivered in March.
I wear them when it rains and I use them for fast treks in All Terrain over hill ranges in Scotland throughout this year.
I've not had any issues with waterproofing. 9hrs in the Ochil hills and towards the end they got soaked as I went knee deep into a swamp. However I took them off at a peak and they dried off quick enough to carry on. They'll be my 'daily's' for casual/everyday use over wet autumn/winter when I don't want to wear boots. So waterproof is ok in my experience as long as they're not submerged.
    They're comfortable and I find 'true to size'. I'm a 9.5 in Nike. A 10 in Adidas.
I got these in a 9.5 (28.25cm) and they fit perfect.
£38.88 is a steal for these in my opinion.
I feel 'seen off' paying £43 now lol (edited)

I have the Sonoma 5 GTX , bought them in February only walked my dog in it every morning, they are not waterproof anymore and the top is worn out showing the inner lining.
Not impressed with the quality of this shoe, hope the version 6 is more robust.
It's a very comfortable shoe but it doesn't last long.

I have had both the Sonoma GTX and the RidgeRider GTX. I use them purely to walk the dog if wet.

The Sonoma GTX fell apart across the toe crease after 6 months. The RidgeRider still looks like new but leaves my feet soaking if walking in wet grass, and this started after about 3 months.

I am still tempted with the Sonoma as they were lighter and not so hot.

Ideally I would try a different brand but I don't wish to spend £100 for the same problem. To be fair, Asics refunded my Sonoma money

Got these last time they were o offer. Perfect for walking the dogs in any weather or up little hills. Definitely a better shoe on terms of durability over the reebok ones

I a wearing these right now. Really comfy and solid build at the same time. Keep your feet warm too.

In fact for that price I have bought some more for when these need replacing.

I have just ordered these, have Sonoma 5 and these are the best GTX trainers i have had, and i have had plenty mid priced trainers of this ilk. Noticed dog walker earlier saying not waterproof, bit surprised maybe they have been hammered.

Very quick delivery. However seems I need to size down. Ordered my usual 10. However seem to be very big, perhaps need to go down a half or maybe a 9.

    Very comfortable tho

Just purchased two. I bought the Sonoma 5s last year and they’re great but my dad bought the 6s and they have much better tread on the bottom so this is well worth it

Thanks OP! My current pair will wear out at some point, so placed an order for these.

Not sure, because it doesn’t look like you’ve taken them out of the box!

I've ordered these too by the way - this price is a steal

I had an issue with the toe box splitting on both shoes within 3 months. ASICS were a bit of a pain to deal with and I took exception with them saying they were replacing them out of goodwill rather than because they are not fit for purpose. My Nike Pegasus are far, far better and I will switch back to those when these die.

Perfect for boot camp, nice one

    Cheers OP

Been looking for a decent pair of trail shoes for winter runs on mixed road /trail routes and having gore text is a huge bonus, ordered these and I'm hopeful they are as good as my other asics. Thanks for the heads up!

Turned up yesterday, excellent turnaround and delivery! Took them for a run and have to say they are very firm-not much cushioning at all. Comfortable in general though but my knees tell me they might be better for softer conditions rather than the mixed surfaces I wanted to use them on. I'm keeping them though (edited)

Giving them a go, anyone know if they fit narrow, medium or wide?
    yorkshireboy's avatar
    Nothing special about the fit.

I am the same size with Asics as I am with Adidas.

Good shoe got a pair last year and worn them to destruction pretty much.

These are ok but only for light trail. They don't hold up well on any sort of mud or fields. Grip is quite poor and are quite hard. There is a reason these are usually £50 or less. The Trabuco's are good and a better alternative to these
    chunkslee's avatar
I've just bought last year's Trabucos and you're right they are much better over trickier trails, however they're also much more expensive!!

I had some ASICS for 3 months and they ripped. I contacted ASICS they asked me to choose another pair, I then waited then they emailed to say the ones I chose were out of stock sorry. So I emailed back said please can I choose another option, they agreed and I got a better pair sent to me. So the support was pretty good, they did state they would only do one replacement, which is fine. These ones are just starting to slowly fall apart but I've had them a year and hammered them. The model I have now is ASICS OC RUNNER.

Im a professional dog walker so I am in "work shoes" a lot more than most folk. These only lasted about 3 months. They became leaky after about this time, which wasn't too bad during the summer but have since cracked and peeled all over the toes.

Done me 3 months so hard to judge how long they would last someone just using them on occasion for running.
    PS5's avatar
Same as me, they just don't sound fit for purpose really.
I bought a few others to try on (adidas, merrell, soloman etc) but they were all hard and uncomfortable.
  27. lolamont's avatar
Thanks. Ordered a pair to replace my Sonoma 5 GTX which have reached the end of life. If they're as good as those I will be happy

Tempted. We are fancying a bit of trail running after forever road running, the problem I am finding is that I cannot seem to find many, if any wide fit trail shoes. I follow the line of Brooks GTS which I'm also advised to stay with by my podiatrist as it helps with my ongoing Sesamoiditis for which I have a custom insole to control.

Has anyone else managed to find an OK pair of wide trail shoes? They also all appear to be Neutral when I need Support 😫.

Not looking to spend alot as its going to be more of a dabble through winter.

    Many thanks! (edited)
