More power. More clarity. More stability. The groundbreaking HERO9 Black sports a beastly 23.6MP sensor for ridiculous 5K video and stunning 20MP photos. A dazzling new front display delivers a live preview for easy framing, while a large rear touch screen with touch zoom provides fast, intuitive control. HERO9 Black boasts a powerful new feature suite, including HindSight, and supports live streaming and Webcam⁷ mode as well. Add in HyperSmooth 3.0, built-in mounting and 30% more battery life¹ for more of everything—in a camera that’s tough as nails and waterproof as ever. Available mods including the ultra-wide Max Lens Mod, Light Mod, Display Mod and Media Mod expand your creative options even more.

  • Shoot stunning videos in 5K resolution, perfect for keeping details vivid even when zooming. With a new 23.6 MP sensor in all its power
  • Capture crisp, professional-quality photos with 20 MP of clarity. And thanks to SuperFoto, HERO9 Black can automatically choose the best image processing, so you can easily capture the perfect shot
  • You no longer need to carry a separate frame with you. Simply pull out the folding rails, attach the camera to any mount, and go on an adventure
  • The new and larger rear touch screen with touch zoom on HERO9 Black should feel immediately familiar, while the new bright front display helps you find the ideal shot immediately and allows intuitive control of the camera
  • Included HERO9 Black Camera, Carrying Case, Rechargeable Battery, Curved Adhesive Mount, Mounting Buckle + Fixing Screw, USB-C Cable
  • Note-Freezing is very often an issue with the SD card the customer is using in the camera. Either the SD card is not formatted correctly or the card being used is not up to the specifications needed in the HERO9 Black. If the touchscreen is working, but is finicky, the best next step is to make sure the firmware on the camera has been updated to the latest version. GoPro cameras are designed to break long recordings up into smaller files as a safety precaution

Arguably worth spending the extra money for the DJI action 3 that's also on offer at Amazon.

It beats the Hero 11 in most head to head comparisons, let alone the better reliability.

That's where my money would go personally but I've had too many bad experiences with GoPro products to buy another one.

I'd really like to give that a go for the reliability and start to replace my existing GoPros, but no GPS on the DJI makes it a non starter for my use scenario unfortunately 😞

I bought the Hero 9 and Hero 10 both brand new and had an awful experience with both - overheating and sd card read issues. Decided to try the DJI Action 3 and have had not a single hitch.

My gopro broke, water leaked in on a no case version like these.

Bought a Wolfgang but it's horrible. Might jump on this dji osmo. Just can't warrant £250

The only budget action cam that i've personally found to be worthwhile was the SJcam SJ8 pro.

I bought a new one on ebay for £60 as part of a youtube experiment. It actually held it's own against the Hero 7 in all areas apart from sound. The microphone is truly awful on that camera.

Anyway, DJI Osmo Action or insta360 One RS all the way now. I'm not really interested in trying future Gopro products any more.

Wow, amazed it is still selling. Outdated tech for a ridiculous price!

The new 12 shares a lot in common with the 9. The 9 was the first of the new tech for GoPro. 10, 11 and now 12 have just been small iterations forward.

I got the hero 9 when it was 'on offer' for 200 about a month ago, my first action cam and its pretty good. They do get warm/hot but I looked at the prices for alternatives and they were all more expensive. (ok they're all a bit cheaper today but the alternatives are still more expensive)

If you want a decent branded action cam with decent enough features the hero 9 is worth it IMO, I nearly got one of the alernative cheaper random brands on amazon and I'm glad I didnt.

Just be aware it needs to be outside with airflow, if you have it inside recording for long times it'll overheat. Use it outside to record 'action' and it'll likely be fine. Had mine on a mount outside for a couple hours recording till battery / space runs out multiple times now and not had issues with overheating. Using old but decent Samsung SD card with standard bitrate set.

I've used this for a few years, on my motorbike helmet. I've found to avoid overheating, just take the battery out, and have it plugged in to a mobile charger. If possible - of course.

Ah, thanks for the tip! I'll try that out with my gopro and see if it becomes more reliable! Shame you have to use a workaround.

Few people were talking about the DJI action 3, I can't see anywhere on amazon about how many megapixels the still photos would be in? Also the hero 9 films in 5k and the DJI action 3 is 4k (can't see hdr anywhere) just wondered why people still prefer the hero 9. I see people saying battery life is better also. But the dji is a bit more expensive compared to the hero 9 even with amazon's discounts today.

Wanting a good camera for going on holiday next year in particular want to add it to my snorkeling mask for going to the great barrier reef.

Would appreciate some help and advice.

    12MP stills on the DJI.
DJI Action 3 does have HDR.

The main problem with the gopro hero 9 is that it is unreliable.

It is fussy about SD Cards and their formatting. It overheats quickly. I've even had a gopro failure from riding on my motorbike where it is fed lots of fresh air but once you come to a stop you only have a couple of minutes maximum in the sunshine before it shuts down due to overheating.

I haven't used any action camera extensively for snorkelling but at least the cool water will help the overheating situation.

I've always found the 5.3k resolution a gimmick for my use case.
Sure, you can crop in to 4k if your framing was bad when recording but in my situation that's not an issue.
Anything more than 4k is a waste of memory card space and battery power in my opinion.

Another deal and another rabbit hole to look at the differences between dji and go pro

Anyone if I can get a deadcat for GoPro? Trying to record and capture audio while externally mounted to a moving vehicle and all I get is wind noise.... (edited)

    Google "windslayer"

Are these easy to use, I’d be using for cycling will it last 3hrs, how easy is it to get clips
    V12AMG's avatar
You will need 3 batteries to swap out. DJI Action 3 has much better battery life, but you'd still need 2 batteries for a 3 hour ride.
    Loads of mounting options.

Is there much difference between 9 and 10. Don't know wether to get this or hold out and see if deal on 10 for Black Friday. Don't need latest model as its for my 10 year olds christmas and she will just be making little videos of dog and on her bike etc.
    V12AMG's avatar
No. Virtually no difference. But both are equally unreliable.
    SD Card issues and overheating.

I am still happy with my Hero 8 black, don't need a later version for dog sports.
    V12AMG's avatar
Hero 8 is more reliable than the Hero 9, 10 or 11
  13. CLEPAU676's avatar
Good price, agreed though overheating an issue.
  14. Christopher_Downs's avatar
A few have mentioned SD card issues with the GoPro. What type of card is recommended? Also what size?
  15. Christopher_Downs's avatar
Anyone think a better price will be had in their Black Friday sale??
