No, the way it goes is that people always say they're overpriced but the alternatives are all worse. As far as I can tell the only downside with this iteration is that it overheats if in constant use after about 20 minutes. So as long as you're planning on making recordings of 20 minutes or less (with a little time to for it to cool afterwards) then this is still the best choice. You could take a look at DJI's camera, but that's about the same price and isn't as good.
Pretty sure this bundle was £379.99 just a few weeks ago. As such, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back down to that level again.
Can people recommend a more reasonably priced alternative?
go pro have priced themselves out of the action camera game, cheaper alternatives available (a lot cheaper) and who whats to career down a mountain with a £400 camera attached to them.... (cheeky) subscription ? paying £400 for an action camera and they expect you to buy a subscription ? you've got to be kidding surely ? (shock)
Probably better to get the non bundle £329.99 option, and then chose which accessories you want. Can get this bundle with better endurance battery for £405, would buy a larger capacity SD card elsewhere. (The case is part of the packaging too, so they all come with that):
Is it worth getting the accessory pack version for the extra £100?
Bought, thank you. Was all set to get the 8 (as I'm sure it would suffice for my needs) but the discount on the 10 is so big that I've took the plunge.
Very helpful, thank you.
For me personally, a gopro is a thing I would like, but don't really need. It's another one of those things that would be nice to have a play around with, but is not life changing or essential. To be honest, it would probably just end up in a draw gathering dust after a few months of me getting bored of it. But if your really in the market for one now, you will probably just look on Amazon if your lazy. But I wouldn't trust any review on there. So if you look at all the usual alternative to lists or read a lot of comparison reviews on various camera, video and outdoor sites. The consensus of opinion on those seems to be either one of the insta 360 models or as mentioned by others above, the new DJI osmo action 2. If you look further down the lists is the OCLU action cam or the older DJI osmo action 1, or the Akaso ek 7000k, the older Akaso brave 7 LE, and Akaso brave 4 were also rated by some. I can't vouch for any of these personally as I'm just going by the various reviews I've read, so do your own research. There are some other interesting alternatives by Garmin and sony on these 2 sites.... That's a six year old sensor with a 1/2.3 profile featuring 1.55um pixels. What all of the above results in is a poor image and particularly abysmal low-light performance. You would literally be better off with your mid to high end phone.
I wonder, with camera tech evolving for the last decade, how can someone still do a bad camera unless intentional or them being really crappy at their game.
will do for my holiday as a spare camera
looks good for entry level but the camera is poor.
The reviews on these aren't great. Infact a few of the reviews I watched on YouTube said that they had issues with half the screen being black on the recordings. Decided to give it a miss even at this price.
I saw 3 or 4 in York Monks Cross store same price.
Yep I agree. We must be madmen thinking we can spend hundreds on an action which has features we paid for but only get a shirt time to use. Anyway, I really want this camera as it's so small but for obvious reason I won't be buying at any price. Real shame
Independent reviews have shown it shuts down from overheating after 15-20 mins when shooting at 4K 30, which is pretty low framerate to use when it comes to modern action cameras. Those tests were done outside in the cold as well. That's a very badly designed "action camera" if you can't just confidently hit record and go biking, kayaking, go-karting etc. without worrying it will turn itself off half-way through. In those same independent tests, GoPro 10, which is cheaper, could manage about an hour of continuous recording. The original DJI Action could easily do 90+ minutes without issues. So, even at this discounted price, DJI Action 2 is not a device worth buying for its target audience. They should have declared it was defective and recalled it.
Some reviews state shutdown after 8 minutes @4k 60fps. I really want one as it's tiny. But just saying make sure you read the reviews Infact after going over some recent reviews even on the very link in this thread, I would definitely stay away from this product. Over heats too quick.
This is a bit unfair. Yes, it gets hot if you push the frame rate and want to record for hours. But, most people won't do this unless they're some kind of madman. It's unnecessary to shoot everything at 120fps - totally unnecessary. Used within its limits, it's fine.
Read reviews first. Seriously overheats and shuts down
Not sure if I should grab the 8 or the 10. I think the 11 should be out in a couple of months?
I think the small screen is there so you can see some basic information, if the backscreen is on all the time it kills the battery life. It also allows to to change settings when it is in a waterproof housing.
7 blacks can be found in this condition for 70 quid less.
Don’t think I’d pay in this region unless it was a refurb from GoPro themselves
Hero8 £60 more, new with sd card
I've not voted either way, but I don't like the way that it says "excellent condition" in one part of the description and then says "may have minor marks such as light surface scratching or signs of handling and cleaning on the surround or ancilliary areas" somewhere else. The photograph shows scratches to the body around the lenses area. Minor marks admittedly, but definitely not what I'd described as excellent condition. CEX has a grade B condition with 24 month warranty for £140 as an alternative.
Think you can get 8 for similar price when on offer direct form gopro
Many of these cheap "4K" cameras are nothing of the sort. At best, they will be HD cameras and they will upscale the HD footage to 4K - which means they're essentially exactly the same as HD quality but the files are four times the size! Might as well pay more and get yourself an Akaso - not GoPro level but reliable and good enough for the price.
Since these seem to get poor reviews, does anybody have a suggestion for something decent for around the same price? (Or perhaps a little more) Doesn't need to be 4K, standard 1080p HD is fine, and I dont mind Aliexpress or second hand if somebody could recommend a model to look for.
Saw these the other day in store, and had a quick Google for reviews, and concluded its poor and no better than the cheaper £20 GoPro imitations.
I need one for a ski trip. Will this work? Is the subscription recommended?
Be aware if you have an existing GoPro subscription and log in to your account it will present this bundled offer to you but you can’t actually buy it. - New customers get the Hero10, enduro battery, 64gb card and 1 year GoPro sub for £380 - Existing subscribers (say someone upgrading from a Hero9 who still has their subscription from this) are offered the camera alone and a 32gb card for £380. I questioned GoPro about this and they just give a generic comment “existing subscribers are getting a discount on the camera, as per their subscription discount rates”, they seem to be missing the point though that existing customers are getting a bad deal compared to new ones. You can just set up a new GoPro account and buy the bundle but then you’ll have 2 subscriptions, so not ideal! I knew GoPro were pretty bad with communication and information, but none of this is clear on their website and to continue showing this bundle to existing subscribers when they’re logged in is really dumb
Do I get 2 battery in this offer or just qnew endufo battery pls. Thanks
No, I'm sure they will in time but they still have a lot of go pros on shelves with the old batteries in the box
Is there any downsides to the enduro battery? Surely they should just make it the standard

Be it Marmite or a JCB, some people will believe that Aldi products are of equal quality to branded items just because they use copycat packaging. #mugs
Just like an iclone. There's more to it than that. Its a combination of optics, sensor and image processing. Its not all about the sensor alone. If it were, then all the phones and cameras with higher mega pixel sensors would be better than an iclone or go pro, but there not!
Like i said, it's a model to compete with older models.... for that price its not terrible What GoPro do you know of that costs £50? I had the Hero plus 3 and 2nd hand they cost about £50 and it doesn't have an LCD back screen, video quality was average at best. I still think this is worth it as its competing against older more expensive GoPro models. Anyways, I'll stop trying to Flog a dead horse lol
