I've had one since last autumn - it's a superb piece of kit.

Thanks. For the life of me I couldn't see that on the listing, so I thought they might not have quoted it on purpose! Ordered....and heated.

Comparison to the hero 6 which is double the price (on amazon)

Yep, 1080p in 120fps. Full specs here:

I'm guessing this does 120fps at 1080p? If so, I'm in! .....if the quality is on a par or better than equivalent go pro?

It’ll be cheap again somewhere soon, it’s ok as a cheap gimmick @ £99 but you wouldn’t pay full price would you?

No, I bought one for a friend as I have a cheap 360 camera but it only records 22 minutes before stopping due to a firmware limitation. So we tried the Samsung camera and it got really hot whilst recording, then shutdown after 20 minutes or so. This was in march. Didn't check if it was a problem just with that camera as she also looked up other reports and decided to send it back instead.

It's not 99 anymore

I've used mine quite a bit and it's never overheated. I suspect reports of overheating come from warmer places than the UK.

I've just absolutely folded and bought one. Bah. Also woohoo. Amy recommendations? Such as a small handheld monopod or ideal memory card?

What do you expect for a fiver?

It wasn't worth it at £9.99, still not worth it at a fiver. 720p coverage, but not a good 720p, shocking colour reproduction. Definitely would not use as a dash cam as resolution of footage is too poor

Thanks for the review, I was in two minds now you've stabilised my mind.

Good price. Struggle to justify paying twice as much for this over the gopro session 5 though. If you really need the touchscreen and replaceable battery I guess, but personally I think the session is the better camera* and also helpfully half the price. *technically the hero 5 edges it spec wise, but my opinion is based on overall fit for purpose as an action cam. Session is minimum fuss, robust and awesomely small. Opinions will undoubtedly vary.

I went from the original yi action cam , to a yi lite ( which i consider even with the session 5 deal the best budget action camera out there for what you get specs wise versus price ) . I had been looking at upgrading to a yi 4k ( well dropping hints as my bday is coming up) so have been keeping a close eye on prices especially on amazon as they always have deals and offers. But when the session dropped that was a no brainer purchase. I'd take no screen over rugged , small easy to use and waterproof out the box any day of the week now esp as most of the stuff i film is dogs at beach

No issues as such but 25p looks slightly different from 30p. 60p is good for slow motion. Its easier to mix footage from multiple cameras if they have same frames rates. 25p gives slightly better low light. But only slightly. But higher frame rate is better for fast movement.

Hmm ok, does that cause comparability issues? Must say I've been using 30/60 FPS on a go pro and not noticed any issues yet.

Uk is mainly 25p and 50p but some of these action cams only do 30p and 60p etc. Thats what i ment about 25p. I think go pro might do 25p.

25p? Eh? From the reviews I've seen, image quality between the hero 5 and the yi 4k is very close. Either can edge it depending on the environment at the time, but largely interchangeable. The go pro has some great additional features, such as robustness, waterproof as is, better EIS, but you pay significantly more for those advantages.

So mine has packed in already :( Was charging it last night, luckily I was in the kitchen when it started melting it's charging lead. The thing is dead as a dodo, wont charge with any lead - they all start to heat up, no light shows on the camera to indicate charging and the Hero is non-responsive when not plugged in too. Luckily they still have a couple in stock near me so hopefully be able to a replace as I have no interest in finding an extra 70 quid to buy at their current price.

People who bought this from last deal.. Is it a good buy?

Just to let people know, while this action camera is better than many others, it still uses interpolation for all the "high framerate" modes. 1920x1080p60 is 1536x1152p60 interpolated; 1280x720p120 is 1536x576p120 interpolated; 848x480p240 is 1536x384p240 interpolated. The interpolation used isn't a very good one either and leads to a blurry video. All sub-maximum framerates use a higher resolution which is downsampled. This leads to all high framerate modes being noticeably blurrier then the sub-maximum framerate modes even while using 50mbps bitrates.

GoPro should honour their warranty. There is no wording or to its effect about excluding purchases outside of the GoPro webstore. Not sure GoPro offers much of a warranty anyway and they are tough, reliable pieces of kit. The money back guarantee is only valid with GoPro website purchases, which is for just being unhappy with the product. This is the wording from the website: "covers the productions defects of the products and of the accessories GoPro for a period of 2 years from the original purchase day and this guarantee can be enforced by the consumer within 2 months from the discovery of the defect". Damage caused by the user and general wear and tear are excluded. So if it stops working with no clear signs of damage you should be good to claim regardless of where you bought it.

Any ideas about warranty?

Mine has arrived too. I called GoPro just to check it is genuine and it is.

Glad u like it. Mine also arrived today. I never expected they shipped from London rather than China.XD

Yea, my recommendation for a low end remains the Yi 1. Good brand, good Sony sensor, good chipset, no false 4k gimmicks. A good all rounder at around 30 quid.

Yes same basic action camera is often sold under a huge number of brands at the bottom end. I'm not saying sacrifice decent performance and get more accessories I'm saying if you want a budget 1080p/60fps action camera then you may as well get one with full accessories rather than minimal accessories with everything else being equal which is often the case. I don't agree about all of them being avoided, some are excellent and fantastic value. There is certainly a sub class of 1080p/30fps, 720p/60fps action camera's that are best avoided which represent very low recording quality and should be avoided though.

Not sure why this fraud site tomtop is allowed here, no safety checks or anything on these chinese cr*p.

At the same time, don't get too caught up by included accessories. You can always buy more accessories later, but you can't upgrade a rubbish sensor. I'd suggest most budget cameras from no-name brands are usually the same product repackaged under different brands anyway. All to be avoided in my opinion (angel)

Just look on amazon warehouse they often have cheap action cameras. You can get similar or better quality action camera's with full accessories often including remote controls, spare batteries and other features for around £20 and you'll get the camera in a few days with decent amazon customer service. Tomtop is the sort of retailer that would sell action camera's with fake sensors anyway. The Sony sensor stated may in fact be a slightly lower quality generic brand sensor. Besides by the time you've bought a pack of the accessories not included here that is another £10 on the price.

I have one of these, got from Amazon when the Fresh deal wasn’t on - think I paid about £60. Amazing piece of kit. Have this on the rear and a GoPro on the front. Quality is only 720p, and it suffers in low light, but it’s perfectly good enough for most situations. Sadly I had an accident a while back, and upon sending the footage to the drivers’ insurers they were quick to concede liability - paid for itself. Heat. Fully recommend these Only issue I had is to update the date/time Is you need to manually edit a text file on the device (which is easy, and makes sense given it has no means of syncing time), but it has to be reset to account for BST. I only realised this when I sent the footage over and the time was an hour out! But a minor niggle.

Good price, but as others have said, the Aldi one (Maxtek branded) /is half the price and does the job, although the video quality isn't as good. I've run an Aldi one since they were released last year, been out in heavy downpours & freezing rain etc without any problems.

The fly6 looks good and Aldi are always very good when it comes to refunds or replace. To be fair the Aldi one never claims to be waterproof, only dust.

Had mine for a few years, great camera and much better than other cheap ones. You can significantly increase the quality further using scripts such as the below, dashcamtalk is a good place for support.

Good camera. Purchased for around the same price last Black Friday to stick on my bike helmet. Footage for those interested: Now I use it as a dashcam. It has a "car mode" where it turns on and records when power comes in.

Bought one. Had resisted before mainly due to lack of screen, but reading some reviews it seems the image quality on this is very good. Much better than all the sub £50 '4k' cameras floating around. The inclusion of the waterproof case for such a low price makes this a good extra cam for those that use a phone for most situations and want a cam for those occasional trips to the sea. Can't go wrong at 33 quid for an all rounder with great reviews. No EIS though for anyone planning on taking this on bike rides... ignore the misleading Amazon info.

Good little camera but the lack of a screen is a pain. How much of a pain depends on how well and reliably it connects to your phone, mine seemed to struggle with my iPhone, though they might have updated the app since then.

Brilliant footage, thanks for posting :)

Just got one from Aldi Strood Kent £4.99

Now only £4.99 in ALDI Lewes East Sussex!

Newark-on-Trent ALDI had one left in the stockroom. They exchanged it no problem. (y) Can't complain for £9.99. There is no Micro HDMI output unlike some other cams. There is no Car/dash cam mode on the menu. Micro SD card is fiddly to remove compared with similar cameras.

Bought one tonight from ALDI Lincoln. Got home to find that someone had replaced the camara with a crappy Maginon AC500! and its waterproof case. (mad) Missing accessories, manual and memory card. Other than that a great deal.

On the text for that one it says; NEW LAUNCH PREMIUM SERIES OF AKASO EK7000: Featuring native 4K 30fps & 2.7K 30fps video recording and 20MP photos, AKASO V50 action camera lets you record ultra HD video and take stunning photos Normally when you see a second figure of 2.7K 30fps that means that is the native resolution it can record at and the higher figure is interpolated to 4K. 20MP photos can mean very little, the sensor could be as low as 4MP and its just interpolated to the higher figures. There is meant to be a new cheap Allwinner chipset V5 that enables full 4K at 30fps coming soon for budget cameras. Normally its not the sensors that is the issue they are often fine for video even 4K its just the chipset hasn't got the power to encode 4K at 30fps. You'll need a decent memory card too Class 10 or above to allow the camera to work at its highest capacity. It's worth pointing out there are premium models like gopro's that are their own specific design but many of the lower models are made by a few different companies and rebranded by different importers etc. So many cameras are actually the same and the actual manufacturer may offer 5 or 6 variants from very low to decent. This Reka camera is worth a tenner but no more but you only have to pay £20-30 to get a 4MP sensor and decent chipset to do 1080p at 60fps with a 2/3K resolution at 30fps. I got this one from amazon warehouse for £20.59 delivered. Sold under many different brands sometimes over £100. Double batteries, just about every possible mounting, wifi and app support, wrist remote control and some very decent options. Seems great so far. At the time there was another Rollei camera to consider which was pretty much identical for the same money. A few less accessories made me buy the iconntech.
