Insta360 smashes the GoPro.... They are being left behind.... Are we seeing another Nokia

The mounts with the screws are fine - chest mounts, head mounts, etc - all okay otherwise people would’ve been moaning a lot. It’s a system that has worked well for many years and god knows how many mounts there are out there. Whether it’s a 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 the mounts are still compatible. However, anything like diving cases, domes, vlogging housings, silicone covers, etc will not be compatible because the GoPro Hero 8’s dimension/shape is a bit bigger than the 7 and that’s annoying for someone like me because I have a diving case and GoPro dome that I would have to sell if I was to upgrade from my Hero 7. The Hero 5, 6 and 7 share the same camera body, but then with the 8 they just had to go and make it a tad bit bigger.

If the budget allows I would go for the 8. Being able to record 120fps with Hypersmooth is a feature which I would love. Of course it depends on what deal you can find on the GPH7B vs deals on the GPH8B. All in all though the 7 is a brilliant piece of kit and I will be keeping mine when the 9 comes out. Will use my GPH7B for time lapses and long recording and the GPH9B for on the go cinematic stuff.

If you have GoPro 7, it’s not worth it in my view. For example: The lens cover is not replaceable in 8 and any scratch usually is not serviceable. I have installed glass screen protectors for my GoPro 8

Good to know, thanks!

Credit added to amazon account to be used against future purchases, so worth noting you’ll still pay £6.99. Bargain. Just ordered using the no rush delivery, due Friday (y)

For anyone wondering, here’s the GoPro response to using Hero5 batteries in a Hero8 GoPro Customer Service answer: Yes, about your 1st question, you can use the battery with Blue on the bottom using your old charger. Yes you can use the old batteries of your HERO5 and Hero 7 with the HERO8 but you will not be able to experience the Hypersmooth 2.0., or it is somehow disabled. For some reason, only the Battery with Blue at the bottom will be able to deliver the Hypersmooth 2.0 flawlessly

I’ve not tried, but I’d assume so. The 2018 and hero 5 are exactly the same cameras inside the body. The only difference is that they restrict the features on a 2018 via firmware. How to upgrade GoPro 2018 to Hero 5 2018 and Hero 5 Specs

If you do that can you then use a remote with it ? :/ Thanks

They should give them free with masks.

Great video! What do you use for editing, and what are you using currently to film with?

Good videos, nice editing. You need a Hero 8 Black at least, Hypersmooth is not available for the White.

Most comparison I have seen now would probably favour the DJI after all the firmware updates

Krystufer: Most YouTube comparisons to gopro equivalents show that it’s got nothing on gopro. Picture quality is not as good. Perhaps when they first came out, but plenty talk about the screen being bigger and snappier and there being two on the osmo, as well as the microphone being better. Also the gopro is probably more saturated and less natural than the osmo. But overall the hero 8 is a better camera than this but most reviews say the osmo and the 7 Black are comparable. Plus one thing I know about the 7 and the 8 is they get very hot recording in 4k which can't be good for longevity. This gives an idea of the osmo's latest firmware.

Has anyone got one of these? Thoughts

Here are some from my FT1 - Although have not had the chance to test this one yet - I would expect it to bet better than the FT1 I bought in 2008-2009. For me and I confess I am no expert, the pics look decent enough As others have mentioned night shots are pretty pants comparing to modern day phones and £500+ SLRs. My son and I has used as an "action cam" I use the term loosely as it not comparable to the likes of a GoPro and the equivalent. As Mike has mentioned a few times. Just attached it to bikes, quads, snowmobiles etc with a gorilla tripod. It does survive a fair few knocks and bumps. I feel it is a fair all rounder for the price. I probably will get a GoPro or the likes at some point but for now with the younger kids this is fine for my needs. I had mine FT1 over 10 years and go on holiday 2-3 times a year, sometimes 4. Maybe the fuji ones are not built as well, I cant really comment. Maintenance, when you finished using it also helps the longevity. Which model do you have? Even with my sausage fingers, I find very easy to use and my youngest, 6, has no issues. Hope that helps some make a decision either way.

Yea - to be honest perhaps I'm a little harsh as I'm personally looking for more in terms of image quality than a phone camera can offer. For many people this would be a fun, not too expensive camera for around the pool and in the ocean. Personally I just wish someone would do this camera with a decent 1 inch+ sensor.

Shame, my old Olympus TG5 is pretty good, did very well in Sharm-el-sheik in and out of the water. Better or at least as good as most phone cameras, upto and including iPhone 11 pro, though most p&s can't compete with the built-in image enhancing modes, especially the night modes.

If you can stretch your budget up to £229 you can get the DJI Osmo Action AND free charging kit from Jessops HERE

Unfortunately it doesn’t have any noticeable improvement in image quality. Zoom and ergonomics are advantages though.

A second hand go-pro?

Yes the stabilisation on the campark x20 isn’t great , wasn’t expecting it to be any good, audio is pretty good and the 1080p is very sharp and produces good film . So static on a tripod it’s perfect . On a bike or snorkelling it will be good , just not great for walking around or vlogging.

I bought the same one and went to look at the thread on here but it vanished! I'm still trying to make up my mind on it. I was hoping for a little more on the stabilisation side (as in, I'd like to see some) , but the fact it takes generic batteries is super handy and it doesn't output in a weird file type like my old cam means I think for the money, I'll keep it. I went bother with 4k, 1080p is more than enough

Can anyone recommend the cheapest alternative to a GoPro under £100, possibly below £80?

Think you be better off saving £12.99 (lol)

Best price so far with free shipping,sd card and without Tradeup.

Hello, newbie here. Would anyone be able to explain, very simply, what the difference is between the Hero7 black and the Hero8 black is please?

I ordered one a week ago, never received a confirmation email, was charged the price to my bank account. Talked to GoPro customer service and they said they can’t find the order. Really looking a GoPro but so far a bad experience when trying to buy one... still waiting for them to get back to me about what’s happening.

The exact reason I just bought the 7 myself from John Lewis, same price as GoPro direct, you get a 2 year warranty but don’t get the memory card, which is probably about £10 at most.

Thanks for that - shame for anyone who doesn't catch on to this and effectively gives them a free older cam.

No it’s not - I asked their online chat, you get £100 off the list price. So it’s still £279 but you don’t get the sdcard. It’s on old deal they haven’t updated or removed.

DJI Osmo Action Camera with Free Charging Kit (Worth £79) £229 @ Jessops

Posted 7th MayPosted 7th May
Seems like a good price, £100 off for bank holiday and DJI charging kit added free (subjectively £79 RRP).

Yes. It starts up on the QR code screen prompting to download the Mimo app. I skipped it the first time, but then performed the update afterwards.

Cheers, presume when you turned it on, it asked you to connect to mimo app for activation? Vs mine which just went into language selection and booted immediately saying factory mode. DJI hasn't replied yet, understand it's a weekend but hopefully they work slightly quicker on this. I haven't opened mine immediately so 14 day window will end in like 4 days if they don't act quickly.

I think you'll have to get it replaced. Fortunately mine was ok. I'm a bit disappointed in low light performance. Quite grainy even with our living room lights on max. Need to spend some more time to play around with the manual settings. Good luck sorting out a replacement.

Seems like it's running on an old firmware but no way to update it really because it's been left running in factory mode since it's been assembled unfortunately by the looks of it. Can't find anything online on how you would take it out the factory mode.

Oh dear. I've had mine delivered also but not opened it yet. I better check it out asap. Anyone had similar issues?
