Unfortunately unless bought directly from Apple are more than likely fake
The fakes are so good now they can even work in find my, show as AirPods to your device, and display a serial/remaining warranty… but can’t update firmware and aren’t eligible for any warranty (and sound rubbish).

Big giveaway on the Gen 2 is they’ll work with find my, but lack the chip for advanced location

You may be alright, but being store returns chances are high that people have bought genuine and returned fake - same reason Amazon warehouse is an absolute sht show

TL;DR: The pair I received are genuine AirPods Pro. Chances are you won't be able to register for Apple's warranty (assuming they're all from the same batch) so if that bothers you, go ahead and return them, if it doesn't you get a 1 year warranty through cheapest_electrical anyway.

More details below if you care to read...

Received mine today, they were supposed to be a Christmas present but in light of lypop3397 saying theirs were faulty or fake asked I asked if I could check them.

I can safely say the pair I received are 100% genuine.

Packaging is spot on, nothing out of place there, all details are correct and everything "feels" Apple:
    - The inner AirPods holder is also made of thick paper/cardboard, whereas fakes tend to have this made of plastic.
    - The replacement tips are securely connected to the tip holder, have the size shown on them, and the two holes on either side.
    - Shining a light through the top of the charging case shows all the circuitry that should be there.
    - The charging cable is perfectly packaged, no kinks/wrinkles etc.

    As for the AirPods Pro:
    - Fit Test works (e.g. it fails if they're not in your ears, if you cover the sensor to make it think it's in your ear but it's not it says to check the fit, passes if the fit is good).
    - Spatial Audio works (including customised Spatial Audio setup, and head detection where it changes as you move your head).
    - Noise Control (Off/Transparency/Noise Cancellation) works, this was actually really noticeable as I have a dehumidifier in my room... when set to Off I could still hear it somewhat, in Transparency mode it sounded more or less the same as not even having the AirPods in and in Noise Cancellation mode... I literally can't hear it at all anymore, even when I don't have any audio playing.
    - They show up on "Find My", and all functionality there works (e.g. you can play a sound, and pause the playback on the left or right AirPods individually).
    - The audio quality sounds as expected.

There are also a few things I've confirmed as working, which fakes are not capable of doing:
    - Firmware updates work. Mine arrived with firmware 4C165 (case firmware 1.2.5 I believe... but am going off memory there) but after charging the AirPods/case and checking details again, the firmware has now been updated to 6A300 (case 1.4.0), which is the latest firmware for the 1st Gen AirPods Pro.
    - I was offered 6 months of Apple Music for free when I initially paired them with my secondary Apple ID that doesn't already have a subscription to it.
    - Them being linked to your Apple ID, so you can switch to other Apple devices without having to re-pair them worked (confirmed I could switch from my iPhone to my Mac without having to pair with the Mac).

One thing I will say is the AirPods charging case was completely flat when I received them, so I'd guessed they've been sitting around in a warehouse somewhere for a while... turns out this adds up completely as apparently they were shipped to Telefonica (as in, the parent company of O2) on 17th May 2022.

They told me this after attempting to update the purchase date with Apple and being transferred to a specialist department.

The person I spoke with said they couldn't update the purchase date to when I got them because the invoice didn't show them being purchased from the same company as the one they were sold to by Apple.

Despite that, he did offer to put the purchase date forward by 6 months from the shipping date... which would have given me just over 2 weeks of warranty left, so I said thank you for the details but there's no need to bother.

cheapest_electrical themselves state they offer a 1 year warranty for them, so I'm not fussed if I can't access it directly through Apple, because I wouldn't be getting AppleCare+ for them anyway.

I also noted cheapest_electrical state they buy returns etc. on their "about us" so it seems likely what's happened here is Apple sold them to Telefonica, they sat around in a warehouse for a while without being sold, Telefonica then sold them on to cheapest_electrical because they were no longer the current gen.

Overall I'm quite happy, they're a pretty major upgrade from my 1st gen non-pro AirPods that the battery doesn't last well on any more. (edited)

as long as cheapest_electrical exists - it all makes sense. I am not sure what to do with mine. they were £140, latest gen is £219 maybe on BF I could get them for £200ish. question is how much is the peace of mind and newest gen worth for us? £20 or £60?

You just can’t be sure these are real. Unless it’s from a big store like John Lewis or curry’s/Argos. EBay is a minefield.

I bought AirPods from John Lewis and when I tried to claim on the Apple warranty as they developed a fault, Apple said they were 3 months out of warranty even though they were less than 12 months old! They wouldn’t  budge even with the John Lewis receipt. Fortunately, I realised that John Lewis did a 2 year warranty on them anyway so I took them back to the store and they gave me a new pair.

    Ordered. Thanks

I'd be interested to hear your feedback once you get them.

Just check for Noise Cancellation, Transparency modes - it has to make the difference, as oppose to fake ones when nothing happens.
Also, (if they are unpacked / factory sealed) you can check if it's in warranty period, as oppose to fake ones when it prompts with an error message.

    Would appreciate a response.

    Good luck and Thanks!

Not sure I would risk it from eBay! The fakes using the Airoha or TWS 3 chipsets sound almost the same, and can be picked up for £10. Not to mention the batteries degrade so fast on AirPods Pro’s.

    Same features?

They had a few sets of new Gen 2 AirPods Pro for sale, so I bought one of those and delivered today. I checked the serial number on the box (still sealed) with Apple before opening, which checked out. Good look over the workmanship and they all look good. Paired, checked transparency and spatial audio. All good. Apple then showed them as a warranty expiring in August 2024, which matches what someone else has said about the warranty being on sale to wholesale, but I've been able to update the purchase date fine to yesterday and I can purchase Apple Care on them. Precision finding works too. Pretty sure they are genuine.

They are the lightning variant case, but I use wireless anyway so that's largely irrelevant. Oh, and they sound good!

What's the link? Interested in some gen 2s under £200

I have bought AirPods from eBay with no issues, as long it is a reputable seller, you should have no problem. To write eBay=fake is not helpful and not true to say.

Not a big fan of this deal - if ur going to spend £140 on headphones you might as well get the gen 2s for £220. Most reviewers say huge improvements in ANC and sound quality + case improvements.

Am gna wait for a Black Friday deal on gen 2s - hopefully they drop to £180/£190ish
