Virgin Media - poor rententions offer given, so cancelled. Question about what to do next

Got an email saying my contract is up at the end of Jan and price will basically double. Called Virgin, best they could give me was £10 more than I'm currently paying, so went ahead and cancelled. My question is, how long should I wait before signing up with someone else? Are Virgin likely to offer anything in a week or so, or do they just not do that now?

Give 02037436947 a call they’re the department that can offer much better deals once you’ve handed in your cancellation request. Have a few rival company offers to hand I found always helped with negotiations.

Gave this number a ring and a Scottish bloke offered £22 per month for 125mb broadband now on the volt thing with o2 so effectively 250mb.

Was paying £10 per month for the same thing but has now jumped up to £32.27 and will jump up again on the 21st Jan to £39 and then £46 on the 27th August.

Have 2 mobile sims with o2 which has generally poor signal everywhere I have been in England.

I declined the offer and wasn't phoned by the outbound team.

Virgin have really got messy with their prices etc! (edited)

If your account has opted in to marketing communications they will start calling within 1 working day. Have you checked your online account too? Some people are now seeing good retentions deals there.

The right time to sign up with someoen else though is now...

    1) It's best to plan ahead and make sure whatever you order is booked and installed to go live well before VM Disconnects so you aren't left with no internet.
    2) VM Are expensive, have the absolute worst customer service in the industry, and in most areas are using outdated technology that leads to a poorer connection for their customers. They have fast download speeds, but slow uploads, high latency, and poor reliability, not to mention the poor quality equipment they supply to customers.

Thanks for the info. Not actually checked my online account, I'll do that now. Otherwise Plusnet are the best value in my area it see s

Retentions is a lottery, I too got offered not much at all so left. I arranged for another provider to install some 15 days before just to make sure that the new service was running good.

Go for the Three 5G £24 a month rolling monthly broadband until you find a better deal.

Its what I am using for the moment while I finalise a house move date.

I'd hold out, I've never heard anybody have to leave due to price, only due to bad speeds but guess that'll have been sorted now! I know when my cousin got hers installed she was the first in the street, had nothing but dropouts, now its spot on and think they even upgraded her package as an inconvenience

I left because my price doubled and retentions never called, so it does happen.

Get a new provider booked in for the day you're suppose to be disconnected just in case Virgin don't come back with anything acceptable. If they do, simply cancel your new order, if not, you won't be stuck without internet.

I've arranged Plusnet for the day before the virgin disconnection. I don't think they're going to offer anything, retentions didn't want to know earlier

Look up other provider deals and ring them up asking them to price match.

Virgin contacted me this morning and got the price down another 3 quid to £19 for 250mb BB on an 18month contract. This sadly still has the mid term inflation price rise.

Hope this helps others looking to get a better price!
