Our log cabins include many features which you'll struggle to find anywhere else! From a tall walkthrough height of 6'2" and high internal eaves to French doors. If that's not enough, we also include an industry-leading 4-point locking system and additional shootbolt locking.

Let's not forget the pressure treated floor bearers with a 10-year guarantee. Or, the thick 19mm roof and floorboards which are included as standard. Not an optional extra like some competitors. Did we mention the 4mm toughened glass yet? We don't use styrene, Perspex or weak 3mm horticultural glass.

Can something like this be assembled and used for a couple of years and then dismantled/transported/reassembled at a new property?

    No. It is forbidden.

Don't you need planning permission to place one of these anywhere?

Apparently there are some horror stories with Dunster, I've been close to buying for months now, but it put me off... Any advice or recommendations if I'm best going elsewhere?

I don't want to mess about as I want about 24m2, it's not going to be 2k, more like 10, I can't afford problems (edited)

Bought a 5x3 cabin from Dunster several years ago and had no issues at all apart from one twisted 'log' that needed some convincing (wet, then screwed down to the hilt) but other than that...

My advice would be - go for the expensive treatment, oil based. Look at kingspan panels (Wickes) for roof inslulation with OSB over the top to felt on, it's easy enough.
Make sure that not only the base is square (which you will no doubt spend mucho time on) but also the TOP when you've built the walls.

dunster make good quality fairly priced cabins . my inlaws have bought 3 over the years... i've no idea why they give them stupid names.

I have this cabin size 4.5m x 2.5m. Came on a flatbed truck and they dumped it on my drive. Assembled fairly easily by myself and the wife helping. Take your time with the base, I used the interlocking plastic mesh grids filled with gravel. Took 3 days or so to get it all done. It's not perfect and it's pretty cold in winter. But overall can't complain.

The one that seems to put me into the needs planning permission is

Outbuildings should not be closer to a road or public highway than the original house** itself.

** House as of 1948 if house built before that point.

I.e. if you have any extensions they don't count as making original house closer to public highway.

Where I live there is a cul-de-sac directly behind my garden so building this would be nearer than my house hence looks like I would need planning permission (edited)
    plop90's avatar
Check that Njay as I think these rules are for the frontage of your house, not just any boundary near to a road. May be wrong though.
  33. manowarbruno's avatar
I assume that you need planning permission if it's against a neighbour's fence?
    whale's avatar
No... Double check, but as internal square footage is under 15sqm you'd not need it from what I recall. It may depend on your local council, but pretty sure. Obviously it needs to be under 2.5m total height too, so including any base.

Purchased one of these back in October ... got a fantastic deal.
    HIGHLY RECOMMEND these

Delivered to the front door in all seperate log parts.
Took me an hour on my own to get every bit through to the garden... and they were HEAVY!! I went with the 44mm thickness.

Construction was super easy... and with the help of a friend (who's a lot taller then me) it took us a about 2 days total build time. The hardest part was levelling which took a while (friend is also a perfectionist).
