FAQ

HOW IS THIS CHAIR DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL EMBODY CHAIR?

We’ve teamed up with Logitech G to make updates to the chair specifically for gamers. The seat has an additional layer of foam to better support your posture while you play, and we’ve developed new technology to keep you cool, too.

WHY DOESN’T THE CHAIR HAVE A HEADREST? CAN I ADD ONE?
The Embody Gaming Chair’s ergonomic design is advanced enough that you don’t need one. You don’t need a headrest when you’re standing, and the chair’s features cause your body to mimic that same posture. We do not offer a headrest addition and are confident that once you play in Embody, you won’t miss it in the slightest.

WHY IS THERE NO LUMBAR PILLOW?
A well-designed chair doesn’t need one! Embody has lumbar and sacral support built right in.

DOES THE CHAIR SUPPORT LIGHTSYNC?
It doesn't, but we're excited to keep updating our gaming products. Be sure that you're signed up to our newsletter to be the first to hear about future gaming updates.

WHAT DID LOGITECH CONTRIBUTE TO THIS DESIGN?
Logitech G brought their innovation in gaming technology and deep understanding of the needs of gamers to the table. They helped inform product updates and collaborated with Herman Miller’s engineers on the enhancements to our products.

The chair I have always wanted but that wasn't meant to be! So last time it was on sale I went for it...oh boy!

Warning to anyone considering buying. MAKE SURE you can be in at least 1 business day a week of THEIR choosing. LMAO!

Long story time, if anyone cares to read:

So they told me it would come Wednesday morning. I said I am at work can we maybe change it to the afternoon like 1-2 hours later is all I was hoping for.

"No, you will have to arrange it for the week after"...

Umm what? I thought, seriously. You can only do one business day a week?

They tried to deliver it anyways because I told them I had arranged for someone to be in to receive it.
On the day I got several missed phone calls but I was at work and unable to answer.

I got home and tried to sort it out, already annoyed because I told them the situation and they were ok with this but then I got home to say the carrier had tried, but was unable to get to my house due to barricades (we have an awkward estate, you can only get in from one side. The side they went to is for emergency access only, of which I warned them about and told them not to go that way). I gave them instructions, as usual delivery company either ignores this or doesn't get this passed on from the actual retailer yadda yadda who knows.

So they told me the driver has now gone and it will need to be arranged for another day as they can't get to my house...

At this point I was fed up. I had already waited 2 weeks to get the chair and I asked them so going forward what day would it be? They couldn't answer me. I said so you can only do 1 business day a week and they kinda didn't answer but made it implied that yes, this is the case and we will be in touch to sort it...I did not want to wait another week or 2 just to sort out a delivery and then wait even more. It probably would of taken a whole month just to arrange this so I asked for a refund.

Now I must give them credit here, the refund was extremely fast then I looked Herman Miller up on Trustpilot afterwards and MY GOD I was shocked lol, at least the hermanmiller.com website. Very strange it only has just over 100 reviews and they are all terrible! Had I seen this before ordering I would of avoided.

Long story, just be aware if you order from them. You could experience this if you are not able to be in whenever they deliver in your area. For me that was a Wednesday only. Now I can't even manage to book a holiday for this because it took them 2 weeks to get me a delivery date! I could not find a way to arrange the delivery at all and they were not helpful in the slightest!

This aside, if you are someone who works from home and can always be in for a delivery or can easily get time off work last minute then go for it! though this experience scared me and especially researching HM online afterwards. I didn't research them because I always heard how good they were so I just went for it lol.

That aside, I am still jelous of everyone who has this chair lol. I still yearn for it!

anyone know a place that sells really good herman milller refurbs?
  3. rgbrgb2001's avatar
I own a herman miller aeron chair RRP 1250. Good but on balance not worth the money.
  4. Jay_Cee's avatar
Is the 'gaming chair' label a marketing ploy or do premium chairs like this have specific advantages over other high quality, adjustable (but not as expensive) chairs in general?
    MK_Nath's avatar
Gaming chair opens them up to people like streamers who sit for 9/12/15/18 hours a day. It's extremely capable as an office chair. It's also expensive for a good reason, but like anything on here that's expensive you always get cynics. Go by the people who own it, not the one's who sneer.
  5. maxtor's avatar
Wow only £1.3k, great priced, might order few for whole family

Will the cats scratch it to F?
    MDog0101's avatar
I have 2 who love to scratch furniture. They haven’t successfully scratched this yet in 2 years. The fabric is pretty solid.

Anyone here tried the Sayl? I’ve been eyeing up the returns on the Herman miller eBay store.
    slipthru25's avatar
Yes I have one and am very happy with it. I choose it in the end over Embody as I'm quiet short so was better for me.
  8. stingyguji's avatar
£1k? I'd rather sit on my floor
    liltman's avatar
and how much do you pay for a sofa?
Do sit on the floor and play on a PC and tell me how your back and shoulders are after a few weeks...heck I bet even a few hours you will be complaining!
  9. paramoreRyan's avatar
If you can afford it, do it
    Jamminator's avatar
I can, and I did, and I've never looked back (mainly because it doesn't hurt anymore! )

Bought mazda 3 recently with 2 front heated chairs ( seats) for £1300, very comfortable - highly recommend (edited)

Bought an Aeron in November, and I have been very happy with it. I would recommend trying them out in the London store before you place an order because I was originally going to buy the Embody but found it extremely uncomfortable, so I went with the Aeron. To anyone asking why would you spend this much money on an office chair, I would like to ask why you would spend so much money on a sofa. If you need to use a chair for many hours each day, it's 100% worth it.
    manowarbruno's avatar
Same here, I wanted an Embody but luckily I tried both on a John Lewis and went for the Aeron instead.

Nothing wrong with the Embody, but the Aeron is the best chair I've ever used by far. It's also more heavy duty and almost impossible to stain, especially with leather armrests.
  12. brend0n's avatar
I’m not saying I called it, but I called it . Ordered the embody myself!
  13. plath's avatar
over £1k for a gaming chair. amazing how some people can't see they're being taken for fools.
    Vinster007's avatar
You'd expect top quality, I imagine it might just be!
  14. Vítor_Dourado's avatar
If you spend this on a gaming chair you definitely deserve to face recession. No chair is worth 1k (edited)
    plath's avatar
i have more respect for people who buy the Aeron. some people will pay just to appreciate a great design. like an Eames and the aforementioned. you won't get much more out of an Embody than you would an Aeron. if anything, the Aeron is more breathable for long sessions, being mesh, and has a larger list of ergonomic adjustment options.

it's overpriced, but, it's considered a design classic. and there's warehouses full of Aerons being sold new or used.

the embody does not have that cachet, is designed to a lesser spec and marketed with a higher price because it's "for gaming". (edited)
  15. liam_ng_355's avatar
Been eyeing the embody up for a while so worth a try. Hopefully it's worth the asking price. £49 returns but still cheaper than visiting the london store for me
  16. MDog0101's avatar
Amazing chair. Though has been cheaper several times. Got mine for £1047.

    Fantastic chair.
Using one for a year or so now. Would absolutely buy again.
    Balcus's avatar
How low are the arm rests and how low can they go? Really want the chair, but the arm rests need to fit under my desk which stands at 62cm.

bought my Mirra 2 from Ebay brand new for 500. Aeron was my preference but the back is too short.

No. 1 tip I can give you is you must go to the store and try whichever HM chair you're after. (edited)
    the_fury_2000's avatar
Agree. I bought an Aeron and the plastic rim was uncomfortable. Mirra 2 is perfect even though cheaper.
Def worth trying if you can!
  22. Spriggan's avatar
Awesome chair, expensive but this is a chair for life!
  23. henn's avatar
I'm a fan of the chair for sure!
Anyone in the market, but without the budget, I'd highly recommend the HM Ebay outlet, where I paid >£400 less for something basically new (a return without retail packaging).
    jayuk666's avatar
I almost did. It was around £760. But 12 months warranty not 12 years. I picked one up for about a grand Black Friday 2022.
  24. The_Best77's avatar
Got this for £1083 in November 2021. Jesus christ they've gotten even more expensive I've had 0 back/seating problems since then however. (edited)

If you sit in an office chair for half of your life this chair is an amazing investment.
    StSba's avatar

Does it have Bluetooth for sitting time tracking?
  27. karlitr0s's avatar
I’ve had this chair since 2012. Still going strong. Fantastic chair.
  28. xtrem3x's avatar
Used to have the Aeron but couldn't get on with the hard plastic cutting into my legs.

Got a Mirra 2 locally on FB Marketplace for £250 and it's been excellent.

I keep looking at the Embody and almost taking the plunge but stopping myself at the last second. It's so tempting but I'm still holding out for a FB Marketplace bargain on it (edited)
    Dysanovic's avatar
I too thought about getting this chair but opted for the Mirra 2. The Mirra 2 had been great, stopped me getting back pain after sitting at the desk for long WFH periods. You got an absolute bargain getting one for £250!
  29. silencesanctuary's avatar
Are these compatible with Linux, and are the parts open sourced?
    6irttiyt67tyu's avatar
Unfortunately, the logitech drivers are a let down on Linux
  30. Firat_Kama's avatar
Which ducker pays this much for a chair
  31. etcuk's avatar
Was going to buy this last year but in the end I went for a standing desk and running pad, had money left over. I know that’s not the point etc etc but I would wager my back is much better for not sitting in a chair at all for the 8 hours than the chair.

It looks good but there are alternatives to dropping a grand on a chair if you have concerns about back comfort.
  32. Hinch87's avatar
    £1300 for a chair. Madness.

I use a cheap basic chair that I got from Vikings-Direct several years ago. Added a memory foam back support and separate gel seat cover and its comfy and no back pain whatsoever.
    TerryT's avatar
It depends on peoples needs. How many hours a day do you use it? what about IT professionals who use it 5+ hours daily and make £50K? £1300 isn't a big deal in that context. I appreciate there is a balance; excessive cost vs legitimate requirements. I don't think your makeshift memory foam gel seat chair competes with this kind of chair.
  33. Pekkerz's avatar
Vantum is significantly worse than embody, still a good chair but much better alternatives for this price I think
  34. Booya8's avatar
I got the Embody in their last sale.

Even after sitting in the chair for 12hrs (I know but I work and game a lot) it's still very comfortable and feels supportive.

I upgraded from a SecretLabs Titan.

How do people find the material of this chair especially in the summer months?
    HKmilktea's avatar
Will get pretty hot and the material is hard to clean, good that this version is black so we wont see the dirt.
  36. Adam182's avatar
Fantastic chair, no regrets at all, incredibly hardwearing, VERY expensive.
  37. G4vlar's avatar
I have the Logitech colour variant of this. I know it's expensive, but think about it. You probably replace that crappy chair of yours every 3 or 4 years for another sub £200 amazon piece of crap knocked up in a little factory in China for £1.50. This thing is easily my favorite investment next to my actual PC and will last for at least 10 to 15 years and will retain a lot of it's value in resale. I never get back ache, shoulder ache, anything. It's literally the best office chair I've ever sat in and very comfortable.
  38. Aaron_Moore70W's avatar
These were going for £1k in 2020, what happened? Amazing chair but not sure if this should be hot.
    Sutats's avatar
Inflation. And these days everyone's a streamer or gamer or unemployed.
  39. sunnyhot's avatar
This chair saved my back! Yes it's painful financially
  40. londonstinks's avatar
There is no chair on earth that would allow me to play longer than 30 mins without back ache. Should have chosen a different career !
