EmperorRosko

Not worth the extra money over the Gold's. Barely any support for the 3D sound. After 18 months there's still no 3rd party games that have tried to take advantage of it. Save the money and get the Gold's. Same drivers and more comfortable.

Why do you care what it looks like when it's on your head and you can't see it

I also got the gold last week but I'm glad I did, the platinum headset is ugly ><

Shame I got the Gold last week for £45. If that wasn’t on offer I think I would have gone for this. Great price.

Bought some of these from Sainsbury in Scunthorpe last week for £15 to clear. They also had the next model up for about £30 but can’t remember the details.

louiselouise

I have these, they're not going to blow your socks off sonically (I prefer my Noontec Zoro HD 'phones - unfortunately they're wired) but they're reasonably good. I used to avoid answering calls via Bluetooth but I do it all the time now! Saw a recent thread for these at £19.95*. They also make your ears/head ache with extended wear!..and I don't have a fat head, either. *Edit: Hmm, mind you, seems that thread has people complaining they were sent the wired set. Currys had them for £26.99 about a year ago.

1970QPR

Saw these in Sainsbury's earlier same price if it helps anyone (y)

Spooooooooooooon

I’ve upgraded from the 2.0 to these. My humble opinions 1. My 2.0 “whistled” when the mic was set to on and went quiet when muted- New Gold don’t have this problem. 2. New Gold seem more comfortable than the 2.0 to me, find all the buttons easier to find too 3. Was nice to collapse the 2.0’s and put in a drawer, can’t do that with the new Golds. 4. I rate the sound better on the golds, also they pick up less background noise from the other players end and Mic seems much better now

Syfi777

Yeah I am in the same situation. The 2.0 are amazing, so unless these are incredible I doubt I will upgrade.

chrisrooker

Personally I love my PlayStation 2.0 headset because you still get virtual surround sound and can use them for hours before needing a charge. Not sure if it's worth upgrading to the gold.

I know this has dropped to this price on a few other retailers lately but I haven’t seen this one posted anywhere so might help someone. Decent price for a good headset.
Master_Yoda

I have now tested this headset out myself to see if they've sorted out any of the issues that plagued the previous sets. They are very light and feel very cheaply built - these feel more cheaply built than the previous headset model (which I didn't think was possible). The reviews I saw on youtube said they had now replaced the cracking plastic headband with metal inside the headband but I was surprised to find this is not true - it's definitely not metal and is still a cheap plastic headband. Have no idea if it will break or not - the difference now is that you can't see the plastic to know if it's failing as it's covered. I wasn't impressed by the sound at all - I actually thought it was a step back - my old Sony 7.1 headset sounded better and definitely had better bass - the bass on these are very poor. These also distort at high volume which none of the previous model headsets ever did for me. The noise cancellation is also useless, despite claiming to have 2 mics for this purpose. The headset also keeps cutting out completely for no apparent reason during use which is super annoying - happens alot despite sitting really close to the PS4 - the previous model never did this for me. The USB transmitter feels noticeably lighter and more cheap than the previous one - a lot of other people online are getting the same signal cutting out problem too when using it with their PS4 (everyone I saw who had this problem had a PS4 Pro like me, and people thought there might be an actual issue with the PS4 Pro and this headset). The general advice is to not plug any cables or anything into the other spare USB sockets when using these headphones. I tried this and it immediately helped alot with the cutting out problem - it's really shocking though that just plugging in a USB cable in the USB port next to it will cause it to cut out constantly with my PS4 Pro - wow. The signal range is shockingly poor - if I walk a few steps away in the same room, the signal is lost - the previous set had a much better signal range and I could walk into other rooms and it would still work. Also noticed that the battery is extremely poor in this headset and constantly needs charging - the battery is much worse than the previous Sony headsets and this appears to be one of the reasons why this headset is so light. Overall, it's pretty clear Sony have done a blatant cost cutting measure with this headset instead of trying to make them better...

charlie_w

Dupe post.... Amazon also have them for 49.99...

About the best video quality you can hope for is 480p. So it works much better on cartoons or games, with lots of broad colours where seeing the gaps between individual pixels matters less. If you're looking for a proper watchable TV experience... no. If you just want to see what VR is like... it's a couple of pounds. That's the point of these things.
