VERY important bit of information. Thank you for that. Not going to get problematic crappy smart meter and be possibly overcharged to get 2gbp drink for free. (edited)

I didn't find this in my app, but logged into the site (from mobile) and found this one. If you can't find it in your app, try these steps:

    1. Login to octopus site and click on the Claim Rewards button:
52101651_1.jpg2. You will see the octopus rewards section and under that explore rewards
52101651_1.jpg3. Your greggs offer should appear here (if you are eligible I think ):

You need to have the electric smart meter report readings at 30min intervals and have a Direct Debit in place before you can enroll on OctoPLUS.

So this is sweetening the bitter taste of a 15% rise in Octopus tracker gas and electricity rates? Thanks Octopus.

feel free to switch to one of the competitors offering a similar deal to Octopus.

    Oh wait, there aren't any.
  4. Alex_Mitchell29M's avatar
Cheers op, great find. Has to be done via website - on the home page under your name there'll be an octoplus box with a button saying claim rewards. Click it and it's the first offer that comes up.

Where about is this, I can't find it on app or website. Am I being blind?

Brillant cheers found it now (edited)

I’ve had to look via their website.

    RICEMAN158's avatar
Yes, smart meter customers only. Good reason to request a smart meter be installed! 🏻

You need a smart meter for this. Eon tried to fit one at mine a few years ago. The 'engineer' ripped the fuses off the wall and then said he wasn't allowed to fix it. Had to wait 2 weeks for national grid to fix it. Their guy told me to avoid smart meters at all costs so I've never had one fitted! Maybe I should?
    peecee98's avatar
I went with Octopus to fit smart meters and were brilliant. Their engineer even detected tiny gas leak in my fireplace which I then got fixed. Their smart display is good enough to use. Saving to make in bills is by changing habits, smart meters just show the cost in front of our eyes.

I see everyone going on about high prices. I've been with Octopus for years. My current tariff is Octopus Tracker November 2022 v1.

My current standing charges are 45.24p/per day for electric and 25.56p/per day for gas. My current unit rates are 14.17/kWh for electric and 4.12/kWh for gas.

I don't really have any idea if these are good or bad, but I've been pretty happy with my bills. I recently had an email about rates going up, so I'm not sure if I should shop around to see if J can get better prices. Price is always king for me.
    MattMac's avatar
Currently you can't beat the new tracker rate they are doing anywhere else. It's quite a rise but is still MUCH cheaper than any other options available. That being said when the price cap falls the new tracker might not be such a good deal anymore (depending on how wholesale prices are at the time of course) so might be worth rethinking at that point.
  9. Boothemoneysaver's avatar
I'm drinking my free Gregg's hot chocolate. It'll be my first & last.
  10. steve765's avatar
Good deal. Combined with 3 Rewards I’ve 2 cheap drinks every week (1 free, the other £1). Heat added. Thanks OP.

8 Octoplus points per 1p credit isn’t very good tbh but every little bit counts I guess. I think the spin the wheel where you got actual £/p was better.

Odeon 2 for £10 offer is an ok deal too. 2p more than Vue (price differs depending on location I know)

Can you claim both drink and £2 for £10 Odeon vouchers in one week? (edited)
    loofer's avatar
also, to note don't convert your Octoplus points directly to bill credit from main page which is 8 points per 1p.

Go to ShoptoPlus (yeh (confused)) and convert it where it's 4 points worth 1p
  11. ylfkk's avatar
Found it and activated in web. Thank you. The QR code expire every Sunday. Remember to renew the QR every week.
  12. azl's avatar
Are their tracker prices still cheaper than everywhere else?
    ImhereforDealz's avatar
Yes, at least so far it is. On an average you might be able to save around 30 ~ 40%, but obviously it varies based on the region and various other factors.

You can track the prices here: gcccc4f6c5ed303-stjqaiwj9fvoaef2.adb.uk-london-1.oraclecloudapps.com/ord…ome

You should select December for the tracker version and the other two fields based on your energy type and region.
  13. shawnlee's avatar
One drink a week.. generous and stingy at the same time
    Strixx's avatar
    That's potentially 52 drinks a year for free......I wouldn't call that stingy
  14. fes37's avatar
So now energy suppliers are doing loyalty reward schemes? Why not just lower energy costs a little for us rather than offer a hot drink every week?
    UnbearableBob's avatar
I've been on the Octopus tracker since last January, without a smart meter. Initially saving around 30% on both gas and electricity compared to the cap rates. This is with 'carrying on as normal' usage. The savings have been much higher than 4% the whole time. Even as the price cap has lowered. Today for example, the tracker is 16.62p per kWh/h for electricity compared to the 29.57p capped rate, & 4.05p for gas compared to 7.45p. Not sure of the exact percentage saving, but at first glance it's not far off being almost half the price. It's not what I would call a small fortune, but still a hefty saving over the year, compared to someone on the capped rate.
I don't check prices daily, but I will refer to them every week or so just to keep an eye on them for peace of mind. I just submit manual meter readings to them regularly, once or sometimes twice a month. (edited)

I've been with Octopus Energy for a few years now and they have been nothing short of brilliant. Really good comms, app is good. Have an EV so night time rates have been brilliant. My nan is with them and she got a free electric blanket from them when it was cold back then. The tracker for the gas has saved a boat load of money. Just my 2pence and opinions differ obviously. One thing that's not in doubt is the comments on this post and the responses. JUST BRILLIANT! Some proper witty people and the cander is much appreciated

My O2 free Greggs hot drink is supposed to be regular only I think but it actually works for large too. So it might be worth asking in store and get them to scan it as a large to see if it's free - that's what my store did for my O2.

How do I know that specific shop I visit is definitely participating?

I am so so so shy with social situations like these.

I would hate to get myself into an awkward situation.

I guess I could call and ask before going in person. (edited)

I was in the queue at my local Greggs this afternoon, and there was a man in front of me claiming his free coffee. I said I'd heard about this deal and it sounded okay and he said that's exactly the word he'd use to describe Greggs coffee but why not when it's free?
    jimbo001's avatar
Out of the chain stores, Gregg's hot drinks are quite nice.

Their Mocha is much better than Costas.

Don't fall for the smart meter con, the government and power companies are desperate to get us all on them. Then they will turn your power off when they can't generate enough for everyone's need's in years to come. Where is all the electricity to come from for the electric cars and heat pumps?
    ianmelgz's avatar
You make a good point, what do these companies expect us to do, just pluck the energy right out of the sky or something? (edited)
  27. jazzman466's avatar
Huge standing charges but we get a "free" coffee once in a while.
We are being systematically ripped off by these utility companies while they generate extreme profits from an essential service.
There's no bigger mugs than the British people
    MattMac's avatar
You don't understand the energy market. Octopus don't set the standing charge. And octopus have a 1.4% profit margin which is actually very modest, if they didn't make any profit your bill would go down by less than 1%, hardly a huge difference to most peoples bills.

And if they don't make a profit there is a large chance they need bailing out like bulb who cost the taxpayers billions of pounds, we don't want that, we want suppliers to make modest profit margins so they are sustainable, can invest in the future, can employ people (Octopus employed an extra 2,000 people last year) and are long term viable.

Free coffee, tee shirts, baby-grows, furry octopus toys + multi million pound advertising campaign to show how good they want you to think they are with customer service...
👎52.4p/day standing charge before you even begin to use the electricity
  30. randall1uk's avatar
Funny how they just emailed me to say my standing charge is being increased, look like its to fund free coffee for ever one!
    P-A1XAKS's avatar
Interestingly... Octopus are against the standing charge in general.

The email states it's an OFCOM thing or regulation issue.

    https://octopus.energy/blog/standing-charges/

The deal will be funded mostly be Greggs I imagine in the hope you grab some wedges or their yummy vegan sausage rolls alongside the coffee. They offer it to O2 and loads of other companies too
  31. Dexidoodle's avatar
Why only for smart meter customers. I requested a smart meter from Octopus but they said that i could not have one in my area. This is victimisation
  32. HwylFawr's avatar
I am in account deficit by over a grand and barely heated my house over winter. I wonder if they could do more for me than a free coffee.
    hilalo's avatar
They say on their website that they have some financial support facilities for customers who need help. Reach out to them and see if there is something they can help you with octopus.energy/blo…ed/
  33. futura's avatar
Clearly puts the company at risk of legal action for discriminating against customers with certain types of meters which they aren't allowed to do.

I can feel a complaint coming on ..
    ianmelgz's avatar
“Dear my Local MP, I’d like to ask you to start a petition to force our democratic rights to be considered on a legal basis by allowing me to have a free weak, milky tea with 8 sugars because I refuse to have a smat metre in my house. It’s not fare that others can get a free drink from Gregs just because an Octopus said they could and I don’t get one.
    Best wishes and regards.”
  34. bradford_dr's avatar
    No joy for me.

I have a smart meter, never worked with British gas. Never worked with bulb, got forced onto octopus, still doesn't work, and nobody will replace it so can't access eV tariffs, and can't get a coffee.
    aaad1's avatar
Probably worth talking to Octopus about it. They are very good.
I have Eco7 dual rate smart meter, it ran into some problems when I wanted a single flat rate and after switching to them. They sorted it remotely and they self-complained to which I got some compensation for it.
  35. Find_Out's avatar
I am with EDF thinking same as everyone that I have been over charged or units are dropping fast than the old manual metre.
Is there anyway I can switch back to my manual meter or can switch to octopus with condition not having smart metre?

What is your opinion on this. Thanks
    anouj's avatar
it’s ridiculous, the non smart meters were digital too yet this conspiracy was never spread around. the usual reason people think they’re being billed more energy is that over winter they start being billed their actual usage instead of via estimates and build up a massive debt over winter and then bring it back up to £0 over summer when they use less
  36. Joe_Islam's avatar
Anyone know how I access this from the app
    cfrsh91's avatar
Don't think you can, only on the website - happy to be proven wrong?
  37. jocksteeluk's avatar
The only way ill go into greggs these days will be for free stuff because they are over priced and the products keep shrinking, great deal/gift as their coffee machines make decent coffee and lattes.

It would be interesting to know how companies like this get paid for these corporate level tie-ins, perhaps octopus would be better off giving the custormers some direct cashback or discounts? Just a thought.
    dsmliverpool's avatar
If they’re bulk buying in a b2b deal that’s reciprocal to Greggs as part of one of their marketing channels the true price of the coffee will be pennies per cup. It sounds more tangible for Octopus to offer customers a cup of coffee than to give them a 10p per month discount. (edited)
  38. chitychatty's avatar
It's not free, I'm paying for this with the increase in standing charge.
