Bit the bullet and paid around £128 for a WD one at Xmas, don't regret it one bit.. Never really worry about uninstalling games to download another any more..

thought these were a seagate deal. have ms opened that up now?

I'd maybe consider it if it was the 2TB but 1, nope thanks, Tip get a cheap external drive, download onto that & then when you run out of internal space, swap around rather than delete and download. Another tip...play the games on your internal...complete them if you can so then you can delete them

Wow, if that is how much a 'cheap' expansion card costs for the Xbox I'm so, so glad I bought a PS5 !
    shasnir's avatar
There's Pros and Cons on each console, you can make up for the price difference of this just by buying 2 full Digital games ridiculously cheap on the Xbox because Microsoft allow you to buy games(and subscriptions) from 3rd parties, Sony do Not allow you to buy full Digital games or subscriptions from 3rd parties they lock you into their store. Can you just swap out the internal drive on an X/S ??. Would be a lot cheaper than this overpriced thing
    the-running-man's avatar
    no, you can't.

Still way too expensive for what you get, but decent in context.

Microsoft totally messed up the additional storage option for the Series X/S by making it a proprietary format. About time they owned up to this and released some kind of adaptor add-on that can take standard NVMe drives.

If people keep lapping up to buy them (which they still are) MS are gonna keep getting away with doing stuff like this.

Sill to much..i'll pass. Heat for the find though. :-) (edited)

£12.99 for a 256gb memory card says these are horribly overpriced.

I wonder how much the competition are charging these days?
    torroxcampo's avatar
Best price I've seen but still 50 quid too much in my eyes

    Still above £100? Wow 😬
    banshee3099's avatar
Look at the price of Apple storage upgrades £800 for 2TB

2TB is $229.99 (£181) in the USA direct from Seagate. Less from other US shops.
Shows how much we are being ripped off by in the UK.
    justjamming's avatar
The US will add on sales tax when you go to pay, however - it all depends on which state you might happen to live in. Some are sales tax free. Most are not.

Hot, but i still won't bite at this price.

Be prepared for shipping via longboat

    Nice! Viking longboat?
  12. Jeevester's avatar
Think I'll stick with my external HDD. Doesn't take long to transfer games between that and the console
  13. benchesh's avatar
Still so disappointed about Microsoft's choice to use expensive proprietary storage for their Xboxes. Equivalent SSDs for PS5 are half this price!

Voted hot because it's the cheapest I've ever seen this for... but it's still an absolute rip off
  14. Piranha_Plant's avatar
After use could these fail SSD Airflow Temperature tests?
  15. will.blakeney's avatar
£80 and I’d bite - will it ever get that low?

Sure, either if there's a glitch or maybe when Xbox Z releases

Way over priced for what they are but probably the your gonna get. Be mindful this is shipped directly from a third party and last time around it took 10+ days for the expansion card to arrive. (edited)

Ordered. Went through Quidco, as a new Viking customer may get 11.25% cashback.. Worth a try. Yes over priced for the storage but cheapest I have seen for this.

Be prepared for very poor "finishing things off" delay, issue downloading to this flawed storage. They've broken something in alpha sh or an issue with firmware on controller I have 2 series X with 2 expansion cards bought 1 year apart and both series X x show same problem when downloading to ext storage. It doesn't happen on mine using internal storage. It will download very fast and then take far too long at the finishing off stage sometimes 10 minutes, it looks like bad caching (edited)
    NickelQwerty's avatar
    There always a cache

i just xcloud everything now and it works flawlessly. the load times have hugely improved, no lag, smooth, even on games like brotato and forza where you need quick reflexes and lag would kill the game. xcloud is the reason why i havent bought one of these but this was a huge mistake by MS.

    Why are these so expensive?
    Rod_SmithmPK's avatar
M$ are not your friends. They just want your money

Good deal got the same one at the beginning of January. Be warned though Viking's TopCashback has still yet to pay out which is annoying as it's a fair bit of cash

    Adding vat to these....not great
    ibblackberry1's avatar
Can't see why they would ever be vat free

Buy a good 4tb external SSD for £200 instead and transfer games when needed. It take 5 to 10 mins to transfer large games.
    banshee3099's avatar
    Which one is £200?

Don't these top out at about 2400MB/s whereas PS5 tops out around 5500MB/s?
I thought the Series X was supposed to have a faster throughput - seems they lied
  28. Mark_Flanagan's avatar
I was considering one of these but honestly I just keep my fav games installed on my series x and then redownload it If I fancy a change.... With 1000mbps download speeds it only takes minutes, the hardware will be surplus to requirements when the infrastructure for fttp is nationwide!
    52349453-BFI4I.jpg (edited)
    SK09's avatar
That's a good speed test result, however when you're downloading at peak times (or non peak sometimes) you will be throttled massively. If you're not being throttled then you're lucky!
  29. aLV426's avatar
"I said when the infrastructure is complete it would be obsolete.... ", actually no you didn't, you said "when the infrastructure for fttp is nationwide!".
I don't know what utopian world you believe you live in - there is no way it will be available in our lifetime and by that I mean 100 years. There will not be 100% nationwide fttp - it'll always be down to simple business profits...
    Mark_Flanagan's avatar
Sorry I didn't quote myself verbatim however the context and point remains and basically you just argued my point

Copper telephone lines won't even exist, things need incrementally replacing (copper telephone lines is up to 30 years) and they will replace with optic rather than copper, infact the government has already started phasing out copper lines and has committed to a 2027 deadline which yes could be extended but not by 7 or 8 decades. Even if the deadline is completely ignored fiber has been the standard replacement for the last 5 years and assuming every cable lasts up to 30 years which It won't the last places in the country will be changed over by 2050! Worst case scenario either that or they'll be completely without. And as the government is currently paying for fibre engineers to train and qualify and all the grants to fttp companies it wouldn't surprise me if 99% of the cou trust done in the next 10 years.

But alas no point arguing with your suspicions or logic we'll just have to wait and see. Feel free to come back and tell me I told you so if your right! (edited)
