PS4 does pretty much what this does. Should I upgrade?
    Piranha_Plant's avatar
I miss my PS4 Pro While I appreciate the opportunity to upgrade to the PS5, I've encountered a few drawbacks that have made the transition less smooth than expected. Firstly, the absence of themes on PS5 has been disappointing, especially considering the extensive collection I had curated on my PS4. Additionally, the inability to create folders on the PS5 has made organisation less convenient compared to my previous PS4 setup. Furthermore, the transition hasn't yielded significant improvements when playing PS4 games on the PS5, with noticeable glitches affecting certain titles like Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and Metal Slug anthology, rendering the latter almost unplayable. On a logistical note, accommodating the PS5's size and airflow requirements has required rearranging my entertainment setup, including removing my Wii U. However, I am finding enjoyment in exclusive titles like Returnal, which are only available on PS5 and PC, and appreciate the console's quieter operation compared to the PS4 Pro.

Was literally about to comment on the other Amazon deal for this to mention the extra £20 promo for prime members, then saw this. It swung it for me to add a second one as a console to the living room for watching DVD/ blu-rays on also (also means I don’t get in trouble for going to the games room and ‘leaving’ the missus on her own ) and she can play Hogwarts & Dreamlight Valley without taking up my console! (edited)

I’d recommend that you spend a little bit extra and replace the Mrs immediately..

when the ps6 cometh, the ps5 will be half this price
    stevensmith752487's avatar
What's the point in buying this just now when the ps10 will be out in 2050 and you'll be able to pick one of these up for a tenner? (edited)
  4. ricky7's avatar
Anyone found any ps plus deals
    mossmanfly's avatar
You won't find any. Only way is to get PS+ direct from Sony. So best way is to wait for a promotion from them and then buy PSN credit cheaper from places like Shopto & CDKeys.
  5. shamhaque's avatar
Need help! Should I get a PS4 off eBay for a £120 or buy this PS5 at £389? It's for my 7 year old who's only ever played on the Google Stadia before it's demise
    ck3245's avatar
I don’t really think a 7 year old is going to get a lot out of a PlayStation whether it’s 4 or 5. They’d get a lot more out of a Nintendo switch.

if your set on PlayStation go for the 4 as it’s cheaper and if they really like it you’ll be able to upgrade to a 5 when they’re around 10.

I'm basing this on the games suitable for a 7 year old, obviously PS5 is the better console but I’d say 90% of the games aren’t

    For anyone without Prime - I got this from Curry's today for the same price;
You can buy topgiftcard from topcashback - buy £400 worth of gift cards and you'll get just over £20 back. It's £409 in Curry's = pennies cheaper than this.

It's more legwork but worth it if you don't have prime

Sony be getting desperate now. Starting to release sony exclusives to pc a lot quicker e.g. Ghost of T / TLOU 2. Flogging off PS5s.

PC Master Race will win eventually!
    Piranha_Plant's avatar
Can I buy a gaming PC with same specs as PS5 or better for £389
  9. mrfisticuffs's avatar
Bought this last week at 409 from Amazon. I wish I had bought the digital version of the slim rather than the disc version. Extremely unlikely I'll ever purchase a disc game.

Any one know here I can purchase the white bottom plate you get with digital version? I've removed the disc drive completely. (edited)
    Rayzerr_Fire's avatar
Disc games are better since the games on ps store are overpriced (edited)

Mannn £389 here or £380 with Currys (gift card work perks). I don't really want to deal with Currys though
    JamesB83's avatar
Amazon easy worth the extra £10, avoid Currys like the plague

Just bought this, thought I'd add some details on warranty and further savings for those interested. Confirmed through Live Chat with Amazon that it comes with a 2-year Amazon warranty as I wanted to make sure it was covered, proof in image.

I also purchased 4x£100 Amazon gift cards via Gamivo in 2 transactions for £355.57, with TopCashback at 4.25% after service fees, roughly £14 total, and an effective PS5 purchase price of just over £330, well happy with that!

Just shows the value of waiting.. One week ago people were arguing with me that £499 for ps5+FF Rebirth was a good deal when rebirth was £50 separately lol

Anything more than around £400 for the console isn't good

    Mr.Nutts's avatar
Don’t. You’ll miss it. Save up and buy a PS5 so you have both
  19. thekudos's avatar
How many games does it come with? Can you download any for free? Not had a console since PS1 but think the kids would like one.

Is PS5 the best there is?
    jimbo001's avatar
If I recall, Astros Playbot comes with the ps5 and is good.

Ps Plus Extra is the playstation equivalent of Gamepass which has many many games available. It's maybe £60 /Yr but you'll have to double check.

A Switch with Mario Kart might be better for kids, but depends how old they are. (edited)
  20. Gokuladasan's avatar
Is the market price of Slim supposed to be lower than the original PS5?
    mossmanfly's avatar
PS5 launched at £360 Digital & £450 Disc. Sony then increased the price to £390 & £480. The pricing has continued to the Slim models with promotions like this only appearing on the Disc model. Sony has it on their website for £419 which ends 31st March. Retailers have undercut by approx £10 or added games/controller as bundles. Expect the price to return to approx £480 come 1st April.
  21. Robert_Boulton's avatar
    £409 for me?
    comedychris's avatar
Are you prime? If so when you go to checkout it will come off, it says £20 reduction at checkout
  22. radvan's avatar
    409 for me
    imsomethingyournot's avatar
You have to be a prime member. Discount is applied at checkout after confirming payment method and address before ordering hope that helps
  23. Marky1987's avatar
Dumb questions how does prime work i.e. can I just get the deal then cancel prime without it costing me anything?

And is there anywhere I can pick up a game - thinking like Uncharted or something like that. There a lot of older ones I would probably like that I haven't played. I have played Uncharted 1-3 back in the day (not any since ps4 era).
    taiko.786's avatar
Just do a trial version using a new account and buy and then cancel prime mate
  24. bainster1's avatar
If i didn't have my dreaded insurance renewal and MOT coming up for my almost Flintstones style car, I'd have jumped on this.
Must be another price drop coming down the line after all these years
    mossmanfly's avatar
2nd time in a few weeks. Sony did 2 weeks at the end of February, and this current promotion ends 31st. Obviously Amazon £20 off with Prime might end but PS5 Disc will be £419 direct from Sony with other retailers undercutting by £10 until the end of the month at least. (edited)
  25. CyDoNiA's avatar
£389 for this is proper tempting however I have a decent gaming PC and so it's getting harder and harder to justify a console when this could go towards a very high spec GPU instead. Not enough exclusives to convince me and I still have a ton of PC and PS4 games unplayed.

Bit the bullet and got one 🫣 even though I’ve got a really good gaming pc lol. Sometimes I just wanna play games on a console without hassle and PS5 makes more sense than the Xbox Series X for me as I have Game Pass Ultimate which I use on PC to play 99% of Xbox “exclusives”.
