PC gaming has never been this portable - the ASUS ROG Ally puts a Windows gaming machine in the palm of your hands. And it doesn't compromise on specs. It packs an impressive AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU with Radeon graphics. So it's got plenty of horsepower to run your favourites. They'll look amazing on the 7” Full HD touchscreen. And with refresh rate up to 120 Hz, they'll be gloriously smooth, too. To match the amazing visuals, there are Dolby Atmos speakers that'll draw you into the game. And with battery life up to 8 hours, you can have a proper gaming sesh wherever you are.

- The Xbox-style controls are responsive and accurate, so you won't be missing shots - It only weighs 600 g, and thanks to the ergonomic grips you can game for hours without cramping up - The Armoury Crate UI makes it super easy to customise the controls, performance profiles and much more - Let your little one have a go! Parental controls make it easy to manage things like screen time and spending - The USB Type-C port lets you charge it or hook it up to a monitor or TV - There's a microSD card reader on the top, so you can expand your library - You can connect the ROG XG Mobile external GPU (sold separately) to take the performance up a notch - Your data's for your eyes only – there's a fingerprint sensor on the top that works with Windows Hello to keep you safe - It wouldn't be a gaming machine without RGB – you can customise the lighting to match your style

Nice seeing these deals but the new ALLY is just around the corner so might be tempted to hold off.
    Srelapse's avatar
New ally is unlikely to be much more powerful since the new generation of APUs only substantially improved the ai part and not the GPU.

Just want to chime in on this

With these the warranty is on the device and not tied to the original purchaser.

I took my chance and ordered a C grade from here a few weeks ago but it ended up having a borked SD reader (the condition was perfect otherwise)

As soon as I got the device I RMA'd it to Asus who replaced the motherboard with what I assume is probably an updated version

Got it back and the SD reader is perfect once more.

So essentially I got a brand new device for £350.... (edited)

How many days they took to fix it?

I heard ppl having more issues after the return of their repaired device from Asus.. how is yours did you noticed anything wrong on it?
  3. skinrush's avatar
Or buy a handheld gaming device that works as it should.
    noahsdad's avatar
That's the Nintendo Switch then, but not the ideal PC gaming option is it?

I picked one of these up with the leap20 code at the end of Feb, and it was also a refurb "B". It was practically brand new... Majorly impressive power from a little machine and with a dock connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse it stacks up well as a full fat PC.
Only downside is the battery life. If you are REALLY pushing it, it can be about 90 mins of play time, but if you are sensible with the settings, you can push it to over 2 hours without recharge.
At this price point, the bang for buck is immense.

Just sorting out returning my second refurbished Steam Deck. Having had two in a row faulty (first one DOA, second consistently crashed and rebooted after 5 minutes of playing Dishonored), ordered one of these, hoping it's a better experience.
    noahsdad's avatar
Pretty much the sad story of the Deck that. Rushed to market ahead of competition and released with a host of issues and lacking that bit of quality we are seeing with the serious alternative offerings now. So many used Decks going cheap now as everyone looks to upgrade to the better consoles.

Bought one with the previous code. All registered fine but the previous owner still had it registered in there MyASUS and ASUS wouldn’t deregister and register to me without previous owner email. No way to get that. Sent back as it bugged me. MyASUS drivers all updated without registration but it just felt odd having it registered to someone else.

Another user said their unit came unregistered and they were the first user registered. Luck of the draw I guess. (edited)

I did the same as you, bugged me a lot not being able to have it in my name for the warrantee. I also found it not as plug and play as the steam deck and struggled with it but probably just me. Shame as I really liked the idea of it and hoped to keep it and the steamdeck.
Still a very good price if you can do without the SD card (mine started to overheat too) and having to have it plugged in to the power, although to be fair steam deck is similar battery wise.
  7. Lococol's avatar
Surely if these have been returned, the most likely reason is the SD card reader problem?
    Pspvita's avatar
    Yes
  8. avine's avatar
Buy one and wrap the SD card slot with some Kapton tape, so far my girlfriends ally has been going strong emulating switch games for a good 4 months now with no issues.
  9. jammiejam2k69's avatar
    The steam deck feels nicer
    noahsdad's avatar
As in nicer on the wallet?

I have one of these I bought from eBay for £340 and it’s brilliant. It came with a 3 month Xbox trial which is a perfect introduction to what it is capable of. The battery life is pretty awful but it’s perfect if you plug in while sat on the sofa.

Z1 not z1 extreme, and only bestbuy in USA seems more like a promotion to me

I thought I got a good deal when I purchased at £500 6-7 months ago but this is insanely good value at half the RRP. Even a laptop or mini pc with the same spec easily costs more double this.

The sad thing is my Steamdeck OLED gets way more playtime than my ally, mainly due to the appaling battery life despite the power they have as ultimately these are meant to be portable devices and I assume many others agree since there appear to be many returns. (edited)

Mines arrived just a small bit ago, absolutely nothing atall wrong with it quick wipe over with an antibac wipe for good measure and it's golden. No wear on anything atall like stickers buttons or such, SD card slot works when inserted it shows up fine but won't be using, battery has absolutely no wear on it atall and is actually rated over capacity by 583mah. Box is battered and bruised but who plays the box. Got an email stating my device had been registered for warranty during setup to my account so couldn't be happier

thank you for sharing the pictures. This looks beautiful, absolutely pristine. Mine came in terrible condition, left trigger LB was permanently stuck I had to send it back there was no point switching it on. Maybe Curry's will be willing to help me out and send a replacement or refund. I shipped it back 2 hours after opening the box yesterday.

It's a lot for a refurbished item, although it's class
  15. Pspvita's avatar
I never used the sd card slot just drop a bigger ssd inside and profit.
    ayeballsmate's avatar
    This is the way
  16. Pspvita's avatar
I could not resist i sold one a while ago for £700 4tb ssd but miss it this was a great deal to get onr back dont forget the 2% QUIDCO CASHBACK
  17. skinrush's avatar
I wouldn't trust this. You will have to be quite lucky to get a unit that doesn't have the reported Micro SD card issue. I bought a refurbished one from Currys last time there was a deal and it had the issue.
    Neil_David's avatar
Had the SD card issue been resolved? I thought it was something that couldn’t be fixed by software updates as it was a hardware positioning issue
  18. Pspvita's avatar
It's obviously these are returns because of sd card issue so they will be in very good condition if you can live without the sd card slot it's a bargain.

Just set mine up on a 2tb gen 4 drive using the recovery if you get secure boot need to be enabled
    MentalFloss's avatar
Which drive did you get? Was the installation complex?
  21. uzumaki_1's avatar
Just a quick update - I recieved mine today. Tha box wasn't in the best shape which was okay. The console itself had what look like dried food powder stuck in the creves. The thumbsticks felt a little loose. The labels were a little worn and dirty around edges. This console was well and truely used. Will be returning to get the grade A condition to see if that's any better. Would like to know what condition others got? (edited)
    TheRoyalEnforcer's avatar
I'm getting mine maybe tomorrow or friday, i hope its in a better state, if not i might just buy it new at currys with student beans discount and some discounted vouchers which should bring it to £477

HODL ON THE HEAT!!1!11!!! NUMBER OF A BEAST (of a handheld)

Mine arrived this morning, and it looks absolutely pristine. No marks on it, serial stickers have no wear and I think theirs only the tiniest scratch on the screen, which is only noticeable in some light.

Checked the SD card slot, perfectly working fine (although I won't be using it for gaming). Also looks like the product hadn't been registered via the Armoury Crate app so that's an added bonus! The box condition was also perfectly fine apart from what looks like fluff and dirt stuch to old sticker glue. All in all I'm very happy with the purchase (edited)

    Mine came as grade A52440590-xwoef.jpg
  24. Pspvita's avatar
The device either way is going to be between 1 to 30 days old that's their return policy r is it 14 days?. It will be like new

I have a 1tb ssd laying around so that's be f8ne for me (edited)
  25. Suratullah_Khan's avatar
Mine reads the sd card but it ruined the sd card. The sd card is very slow (2mb/s) un unresponsive. It wasn’t like this before. I think the heat fried the sd card. Not using it anymore
  26. Pspvita's avatar
I would just drop a cheap sd card inside just for storing docs
  27. Pspvita's avatar
    Got a despatch email already,

Absolutely love this machine can play pretty much anything and it's so well made. People complain about the battery but but who uses a handheld for hours at a time? Nobody really.
    Happy_Shopper_'s avatar
Definitely not Rog Ally owners anyway.

Can anyone tell me what I need to use this as a desktop at home. I already have a hdmi monitor, keyboard, mouse and usb 3 hub. Is there anything special I need or is that it. Thanks
    immiA's avatar
That's all really, but if you already haven't, try to use a usb c hub with ample ports (ethernet, usb a , usb c, m.2), (edited)

  32. scrappysphinx's avatar
With this being a B grade would it be worth paying the extra £30 odd quid for the A grade? Anyone know the difference in grades, does A come with original packaging for example?
  33. Yesgo's avatar
Can you return to Currys store if condition is bad? Or do you have to send this off somewhere?
    DanRea's avatar
No you have to go through the eBay messaging service
  34. Uridium's avatar
Refurb, Currys....good luck with that customer service when it goes wrong

I just got my Asus today the device itself looks mint like new box was a little tatty but all good. Waiting for the 2tb ssd to come in today and will fit it with adapter.
    Suratullah_Khan's avatar
Does it read micro sd cards ?
  38. Pspvita's avatar
Going to test once i get my 2tb ssd today
    buliztik's avatar
Oh no, you actually ordered the Crucial M2 2280 for this, didn't you? And the previous comment (which is looks like you replied outside of the thread) asked about the mini SD Card slot, separate to the internal SSD NVMe slot.
  39. Drakite's avatar
Will this play world of Warcraft out the box with no modding or additional hardware?
  40. elcaminos's avatar
Mine arrived today - box absolutely battered but device is almost good as new, only real sign of use is a bit of discolouration on the serial number on the bottom of the device. Very happy with it!
Bit annoyed that ASUS point blank refuse to deregister the device from the old user, but not really a problem.
    Hammerheads29's avatar
This is why I'm wavering on buying one from Currys. Some sound like they've been barely used and others have discoloration or minor damage. I guess it's a gamble. Then again there's a other deal on here for a tenner more but no clue if there's are in better condition
