Previous post was too political so didn't make it passed the mods. Here's an apolitical version:

⛔This company doesn't provide a name or contact details for a designated safeguarding lead or their safeguarding policy on their website. This is a red flag to anyone thinking about sending their kids away with strangers.

⛔Their privacy policy still contains the "suggested text" markers, nor does it name who's responsible for maintaining and processing data, children's data, likely containing names and contact details of children and their parents.

⛔The company's terms and conditions state that their services are intended for individuals aged 18 or older, or incorporated entities. This contradicts their claim to empower young people, as it restricts their agency and participation without guardian consent.

⛔It is a company directed by two people. I might ask why a youth organisation wouldn't set up as a charity and get some trustees to provide governance and scrutiny.

NCS, launched 2011, would see up to £650,000,000 of public funds ploughed into the programme every year, which provided four weeks of 'activities' in the summer holidays, much of it making its way into private computing. At the same time, local youth clubs, centres, programmes, and projects that provide year-round activities and support would close their doors due to lack of funding.

Top tips for sending your kids away with strangers
    ✅It's never free
✅Safeguarding Policy with name and contact details for the Designated Safeguarding Lead and a safe recruitment policy (inc. DBS checks, references, two-stage interviews, ID checks)
    ✅Health and Safety policy
✅Data Protection with details of how the data is used and how long, how it's secured, how its destroyed, and who they share it with
✅Public and Employer's Liability Insurance (£10mil min), listings on companies house and charity commission, when we're they set up?
✅Qualified Staff (e.g. at least one of the 'leaders' should have Professional Youth Work Qualification at Level 6 JNC recognised, Teaching Qualification with QTS), otherwise they're just adults hanging out with kids.

I would highly recommend NCS - i know of teenagers that came back different people, having learned valuable lifeskills taught by younger mentors who are listened to, rather than ignored parents

Pleased to see NCS is still a thing, my now 26yr old son went on this when he was 16 and at the time had no future career plan in mind. Not exactly sure why but he came home with an idea that he wanted to work in a career careing for people, he joined the local St John Ambulance cadets and upon leaving school got a job with the NHS. He's now a Paramedic working for the NHS saving lives everyday

If you have the chance send your kids on this, it can be life changing.

Awesome, thanks to your son for his service. So grateful for parademics who gave attended both my mum and dad in recent years. They deserve better pay (as does most others) in the NHS

I actually went to NCS a few years back. While I've always hated PGL, which they have you do for the first week, the following two were done at a university, helping volunteering for a local business/operative. It was extremely good, definitely a must for all kids of age, regardless of if it's free or someday costs a bit to do.

My daughter went on a school trip to NCS a few weeks ago and had a fantastic time - as did the whole group. On that experience it is highly recommended.

makes excellent points though. I did notice the information on the NCS site was very minimal and almost obfuscating the details he mentions. I would look into it some more.

I can only speak from firsthand experience and the accounts of those within my personal circle. I have previously been on a trip organised by the NCS and it was truly remarkable. Throughout the entire experience, I never once felt unsafe or encountered any issues with safeguarding, a sentiment echoed by both my friends and older siblings who participated.

This isn't just some haphazard excursion; the NCS has been offering hundreds of free trips and facilitating experiences for thousands of kids for well over a decade. If there were any concerns regarding safety, I am pretty sure they would have been addressed and the program shut down a long time ago. It's crucial to conduct thorough research and due diligence checks before making any decisions.

Ultimately, every individual and their child should only engage in activities they feel comfortable with. I simply wanted to share this deal and incredible opportunity, as evidenced by the positive experiences shared by others in the comments.

When our children embark on new experiences, whether it be starting a new school, attending a holiday club, or joining a nursery, they are often entrusted to the care of strangers. It's important to remember that everyone is a stranger until you have the chance to get to know them!

My son went on the NCS a few years ago and he absolutely loved it. It wasnt free (cant remember exactly but it was less than £50) but its an experience you can't put a price on.
