I would not trust any extension lead without surge protection.. Too many fires started with leads over heating.. I was told that years ago by a fire fighter to always get surge protection ones.. Good price though for people that don't mind the risk..

Surge protection will not prevent electrical fires...

Thanks! Bought two, one for each side of the bed.

I'm always pulling out the bed side table to unplug the lamp for my steam deck. This'll help turn a 3 plug socket into a 3. (edited)

Used plug extensions for well over 50 years now and never had a problem if used wisely

I guess it's worth pointing out that these are not BS 1363-2:2023 and are therefore deemed unsafe as the shutters can be defeated by inserting a plug upside down (BS1363/A compliant is from 1994).
Worth considering if young children may have access to them.

I took one apart to try to fix a loose connection and was so disturbed by the flimsy construction I chucked it away but modern fuse boxes (consumer units) should trip before it causes a fire, I think.

Sadly not - a fuse only blows when it's rated current is exceeded for an extended time (obviously this depends on the fuse type). Speaking from experience it is possible to start a fire without tripping the fuse or the the RCD!

    Thanks Op

But not for me due to the bad materials. A cheap and nasty made fire risk.

You only get what you pay for. Over priced anyhow.

According to regulations its a design failure to be using extension leads. They not to the standards of a britsh standards socket. I totally agree. If you are using one make sure the total Amps don’t exceed the fuse rating.

The only problem I ever had with an extension lead was one from a pound shop years ago I had it plugged in and the plastic became so brittle come at the extension and just crumbled. Obviously that could have been very dangerous because it just gave access to the live contacts. I've had a protag extension lead for years and it's always remained strong. I got one I find it's a handy little thing for kettle cords and other gadgets which are just that bit too short. Thanks for posting the deal.
