As somebody who travels to the UK for work, I've tried most Sat Nav apps, and I would say Amigo is my favourite for its little features that others don't have; clear verbal warnings, average speed (when going through average speed cameras), a visual alert when approaching junctions (hard to explain, but works well) and clear detailed interface. Where it both lacks but could also become my de facto navigation is the user alerting; it could be great, but the userbase remains small - I'm often doing the reporting first, whereas that hardly ever happens with Waze.

I find Waze interface horrible, and route-finding is questionable, often taking a 5-minute detour through country roads because it's slightly faster than the A road it took me off. I'd rather use Amigo over Waze, but I use Waze for reporting, and now I use one on Android Auto and the other on my phone to get the best of both worlds.

For what it's worth, I find Google Maps route-finding the best, but its new interface is awful and has no reporting feature. Tomtom Go App has the best interface but has trouble finding addresses and is prone to taking down inaccessible routes; it also lacks some of the features in Amigo, which is ironic considering it's the paid version.

Synic is a decent wild card - it has tons of features and looks great; it has reporting, but again, it's a small user base.

Anyone who drives a truck or has to navigate around restricted areas should look at "Road Lords" - based on Synic (I think), you can set up your vehicles, and it will avoid low bridges, narrow roads, etc. I use it when travelling into London as it avoids Rotherhithe Tunnel (I only drive a standard van, but I'm not allowed in it - found out the hard way), whilst all others demand that I take the tunnel, and none have "avoid" options. I also like that it keeps routes simple, so it may be worth looking at if you want to avoid country roads, etc.

It is worth noting that to get to addresses now, I use What3Words, which really elevates navigation. I have not had any issues getting to where I'm going since using it. (edited)

I use this just as a more visible speed vs limit display by clicking on the speed logo whilst in the app. I know these show on Waze etc too but this is more visible - so I use Waze on Apple CarPlay and this in addition via a mobile phone holder on the dash. Call it overkill but works well for me.

What are the differences between this and the paid app?

Paid App is using GPS, but this one is using Internet data.

I will give it a try. Waze runs my phone ultra hot not sure why.

Looks like a rip of waze

Probably is. All sat nav apps are crap except Google Maps , Apple Maps and Waze

Quality navigation app. With good camera warnings
  8. bazio16's avatar
Very good as it uses voice prompts for speed alerts and not beeps

what is the benefit of any of these apps over the standard google maps?
    clavier3895's avatar
    Nada.

    1. Waze
    2. Google Maps
    3. Apple maps

Any other nav apps are irrelevant.

waze.com is much better than this, better to just stick with Waze as it already works, owned by Google and uses Google services for traffic data

I used to love Waze but a few updates ago it started locking up a few minutes into any drive. Reinstalling it would clear it for a few days then it would start again. Waze's solution? "Send us a screenshot". Of a locked up screen? Whilst driving? Aye, right.

I try it again every time it upgrades as I did prefer it to Google Maps but so far it's just useless to me. (edited)

Speed limit and current speed always clearly displayed even when not navigating makes this the best in car AA app for me not to mention it's free. I don't find the Waze speed/limit equivalent clear anymore on a 6.5" screen.

Not sure why this is a deal? This app has always been free. It is good though, of the online only ones, it is the best. Sygic is the best overall though in my opinion.

The search on this app is terrible. It fails to find many businesses. I had the same issue with some of the other navi apps. (edited)

If you use what3words, you'll find it will be a benefit no mater what navigation app you use
