Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Once unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them.

Working but you'll need to buy something else to use it (minimum £20 spend)

Do old films like this look good in 4k? I imagine it showing up the old fashioned effects more and making it look more dated but not experienced an old 4k film yet

It really does depend on a case by case basis. For the best transfers, a new scan of the print (in this case 35mm film) has been taken. There is usually more than enough detail in the film to produce a 4k output, but sometimes it comes with a load of additional noise. Most of the purists like the noise left in as removing it can result in loss of detail (something called digital noise reduction "DNR") which can give a "waxy" look to skin. Practical effects like those used in this film usually upscale better rather than old CGI effects which were made at a low resolution. There is a review from avforums of this disc, looks like a good one avforums.com/reviews/the-thing-4k-blu-ray-review.19101/ (edited)

An absolute classic. Amazing practical effects still hold up today, and still terrifying.
