I would really advise against this frankly. The UA VOLT 2 is a really good alternative. I have owned both, I returned the Focusrite. If you want quick plug and play connectivity there are better options, if you want high quality ADAT then there are MUCH better options.

Just my opinion, I do work professionaly recording and mixing, but as always each to their own.

Tons of professionals use the Focusrite Scarlett line. We have several Scarlett units in-house for professional recording at our studio. Honestly there is nothing wrong with them, especially for the price. Not that there aren't technically better products but to get any real leap in performance you need to pay heaps more. Really though, the way I see it is, if Misha Mansoor can use these for Periphery albums, then they are good enough for my humble music. Realistically speaking for the average user, any issues encountered are more likely to be user error rather than the Scarlett. (edited)

People mention UA Volt 2 as an alternative and yeah well it's preference of sound between that and Scarlett 2i2, I prefer Volt 2 but for interest the UA Volt 276 is on offer at the moment which is a really nicer interface. As another alternative the SSL 2 is always well reviewed and also on offer amazon.co.uk/SSL…3D/

If you want bog standard does the job and way cheaper, consider Behringer UMC22 at just over £50.

The 2i2 at this price is way worth it though.

Music teacher here. Bought 5. Every single one failed over the course of 3 years. They're completely trading on their name. Do yourself a favour and invest in the Behringer U-PHORIA UM2 - if you only need 1 XLR input. Bomb proof, sounds better and is £39.99. Model up, more inputs around £90.

I have the behringer with 2 inputs and it's great for the price

If you're thinking about combining one of these with a Shure mic or other XLR mic for live-streaming on YouTube or Twitch, I strongly recommend against it. I poured out the money for the 4th gen version of this, and a Shure SM7B, and the results were dreadful. Audio input delay caused a desync that just didn't happen with my USB microphone, and the gain is really poor, even with this audio interface, so it was causing me to shout a bit to ensure my voice was heard clearly. Plus, these audio interfaces are bulky and take up a good chunk of desk space. For a fraction of the combined price, get yourself an Elgato Wave 3 if you're a streamer. Saves you lots of money, space, and it's an all-in-one solution that works beautifully with your software.

If you're a musician, I can't comment. This might be the device for you. Just stay away if you're a YouTube/Twitch streamer.

Hmm, that does sound like an audio driver issue. I didn't love the interface, but I didn't encount any latency problems. Which mic are you using with the interface and are you aware of Phantom Power? Depending on the mic that could be your issue.

If you're used to using USB mics then I assume that you're probably not recording for audio fidelity specifically; there is a HUGE markup on USB mics compared to their non-USB variations and in my experience are just not very good.

The Elgato Wave 3 is a USB microphone. Whereas this is an audio interface, so two quite different products frankly. The interface is a connective hub for audio I/O. The Wave 3 is a microphone. Both useful but not quite comparable in this sense typically. (edited)

Really good price for the 2i2, but is Gen 4 coming soon?

It's already out but quite a lot more expensive. Better pre-amps, better level indicators, and an automatic anti-clipping feature. I wouldn't say it's worth 70% more than a gen 3 though.

It's a few pounds cheaper from Amazon Italy.

Fair play - save a fiver but with possibly more than a fiver's worth of warranty headache

All I can say is I've been using one of these for recording vocals, guitar & bass as well as a midi in/out for a few months and I'm very pleased with the results. Going straight into Logic Pro without even routing via a hardware pre-amp guitars/basses sound great. I'm not concerned with clipping/ level indicators/compression - Logic handles all that.

At this price this is a bargain!

I have a 6i6 (2nd gen) that has been flawless for the few years I've had it. No issues at all.
But a year ago I needed a smaller audio interface and did my research and ended up with an Arturia mini fuse 2 (£110) which has also been perfect. I went with the Arturia as it was the cheapest option that had midi and at that sort of price range there isn't much difference - I think the Motu was actually the best in tests but it wasn't by a huge margin and it costs more so I didn't get it. Same with Scarlet 4i4 which was also good but bit more expensive. (edited)
