sorted byThe first tell tail sign is the trackpad will start to lift away from the laptop and within a few months, the entire case will warp.
Out of 400 of these machines, I’ve personally seen over 30 with swollen batteries.
It’s easy enough to replace the batteries, but it’s additional expenditure - something to keep in mind (edited)
Is the memory configured as 1x8 or 2x4?
Planning to upgrade the 8GB to 16GB but each laptop manufacturer configures their laptops differently.. Normally its 1x8 for HP in my experience. Ive worked on a few for family and friends as well as owning some old the older models.
Quite a delicate item and I have received pcs with broken WiFi aerials a couple of times from other places. Also, that mini pc only has a 6500T i5 and it performs very well as far as my browsing and streaming needs require.
The included W11 installation works fine so far. This laptop has a newer/better processor than my mini pc, so expect decent performance unless your trying to do particularly demanding tasks. And the 8th generation i5 is officially supported by Win 11 I believe
Naysayers scaremonger way to much with cheap refurbished computers. These things are extremely useable devices.
So I wouldnt hesitate to buy this laptop if I had the money and urgent need for one. 13.3 inch sounds good to me. I have an old full size laptop and tbh it's abit of a faff to use something so big and heavy these days. (edited)
Only x2 PCIe lanes attached to the TB3 port so eGPU performance won't be the best but that's a niche case.
Listing also supports offers so possibility of getting cheaper still.
I use a Lenovo T480s (also 8th gen intel) for uni, office, browsing, bit of protein modelling (nothing too heavy) and it's not missed a beat. As long as you're not unrealistic with your expectations, this will be great for many people's needs.
Needed a laptop for work since spilt tea over my old one. Thanks op.
If it still won't die put linux mint on. I've got a really old laptop that does amazing things with that
We had three similar but higher spec models on trial at work and they were awful. All three had fan fails within the first few weeks which I guess you can explain away with a faulty batch. After that we had something like 6 warranty call outs within 12 months, three on one device which in the end was replaced completely. Think these also suffered from the notorious battery swelling issue, we certainly one fail and take the trackpad with it. We stuck with Dell.
Pains me as I'm and ex qualified HP warranty engineer. (edited)
So I also assume that if I did get issues with the battery at least I can change it?
Had a chromebook, an hp one, bought new, woke up tother day and it didn't have an operating system anymore. Told me to go download summit on a dongle and reinstall it, didn't work. replacement seems a little old in style but also a bit tough looking so not all bad.
Anyone know what sort of things to look out for having bought a laptop like this? Any issues for instance? I'd so appreciate any advice. Sorry to hijack but hoping to learn something.
Having said so I am surprised it is Windows 11, but it appears to be just above minimum specs, so all good.
8GB of RAM is not adequate so best plan an upgrade, small HP ProBooks are hard to open but you should be fine. As this is 5 gens ago it may actually be still easy to do so.
Sorry I cannot be much help, I have been dealing with a gen 6 a lot but not the gen 5.
Overall, for the price and 6 months warranty, it is a great deal.
Initial thoughts are its in superb condition ! like new really. Battery count is only 117 as well.
Overall a fantastic buy
