Note: please don't get this for gaming. This is a workstation machine and a T550 is equivalent to a RTX 3050.

    these are garbage grade laptops

the amount of flex in the full plastic chassis (which does damage to the motherboard FYI), LCD flex (again damage to LCD), garbage tier 6-bit LCD panels, and horrendous thermals (from a poor design) is inexcusable in a 1000+ laptop in 2024. These are ewaste

Avoid this headache! I owned a P14s gen 2 for 2 years and hated every loud, overheating, throttled minute of it. I was happy to offload it at a massive loss (edited)

This is for the Gen3 not the Gen2. Dependent on the colour and configuration the build is not the same with Lenovo laptops in the same range.

The Black model of the Gen3(the one here) has an alloy base and the rest of the laptop is made of glass fibre and carbon fibre reinforced plastic. You can see this here:

The cheaper Grey units without a dedicated card are made mostly of plastic.

Also the Gen3 and Gen2 use different panels. The Gen2 uses a 16:9 1920x1080 6 bit + FRC panel made by BOE rated for 16.2 million colours and the Gen3 uses a 16:10 1920x1200 8 bit panel made by AUO or LG rated for 16.7 million colours. If other panels are used they will probably confirm to the same minimum specifications. (edited)

I had this but with 48gb RAM and the upgraded screen... the machine was excellent, battery was horrid. It lasted no more than 70 minutes.
I ended up sending it back.

If you are always plugged in, you might be OK, but the one I had was horrid if you needed to do anything on the move.

(Thermals weren't the best either, ran pretty hot)

Heat for the price though. Thanks OP. (edited)

Because it's meant for productivity/office work, and you don't need many colours for Excel.

Great value for people who need a portable workstation.

Not so for the rest of us.

How is this still using DDR4 memory? Would have thought it would at least come packed with DDR5 given the 12th gen processor. What an odd place to cheap out on...

Single fan design at this price, maybe better to go for a yoga model

It's got Intel's latest gen of CPU that is remarkably SLOWER in single core and multi thread than Intel's previous gen. AVOID.
    adam.mt's avatar
Did you even read the title/description? It's using a 12th gen CPU.
