About this deal

MK logic rapidfix screwless double socket.

Used this the other day when I wanted to take a spur from a socket. So much easier than getting three wires into the screw terminal.

I also found that they are good if you have original wiring that is short after decoration etc as you can separate all the wires and you get a bit more slack.

Obviously they cost more than standard sockets but good reduction here. £6.99 elsewhere.

This type of wire connection should be standard for all sockets and outlets ages ago. Uk is just too resistant to change.

Might be more to do with the price of these compared to a standard MK dbl socket that is over £2 cheaper. Some electricians are not happy with screwless terminal systems (this, wago and similar) as very often they give bad readings when tested. (edited)

it's cool that the new sockets seem to be colour coded, as well, otherwise have to get the magnifying class out to check what is what. Know it won't be to code but aliexpress have some hybrid double sockets with usb and that can take multiple different plugs (euro, usa, uk etc) and they seem like quality kit for around three quid all in in the last sale. I have it mounted in a box and connected as an extension lead to std socket, more or less legal, and in a much more convenient location.

I've got a couple of QuickTest sockets wired to 13A plugtops - so there does seem to be few restrictions, when it comes to what you do that has a 13A plug on the end of it. I'm convinced that the regulations are aimed at unregistered "electricians" rather than householders. The later are mainly putting themselves and their families at risk, whereas a rogue electrician could be responsible for dozens of unsafe systems being created, each and every year.

Replaced all our switches and sockets with MK Logik range when we moved in (old sockets would stick or spark), honestly found them the best I’ve dealt with from a DIYer perspective.

Any tradesman we’ve had in, however, have nothing but bad words to say about them (think it’s more a cost issue to be fair).

True that, they usually stick with Hager or Scolmore due to margins. Their quotes for MK often get scoffed at lol.

I've installed a couple of these and they work a treat especially when you have 3 wires

Are DIY'ers actually permitted to run in spurs to add to existing fixed wiring? I thought that you can't modify the existing wiring without getting it inspected afterwards. You can swap sockets on a one-for-one basis and this looks ideal for that: no risk of over or under tightening the screws on the connections, as there aren't any.

So heat added - it saves any worry about how tight the screws need to be, plus whether the cores need to be twisted together, etc. Knowing MK, there's probably even a stripping guide built in, somewhere. It looks like there are also a couple of screw terminals for running an earth wire to the box - so it stays earthed even when the socket is hanging off on the wires. Nice.

    Think that will stop them?

Hit and miss with these, check out the reviews for them on Screwfix for more examples. They don't tend to grin like wago's do and some have had to return them for replacements (edited)
