This or M1 pro 32gb ram 512gb storage. Basically, more ram and older processor or new processor less ramm

Entirely depends on whether you use >18gb ram (on a mac). I’d rather the newer processor. RAM isn’t important for my use cases, even for motion graphics work in Adobe after effects, I’m doing ok with my current 8GB M1 air.

My windows machine has 64gb and it seems necessary. In terms of coding/virtualisation software etc which I’m sure eat lots of ram, maybe in those cases it’s another story.

In my case, as a bonus I know with M3 I’ll also get unreal engine 5 lumen and nanite support. I’m really getting into that software for production stuff. It’ll be good to work on that on a portable. (edited)

Forgot to mention 720p resolution with low quality details.
I got PS5 and Xbox x and M1 Max 32 Core GPU these nonsense about MAC gaming please .........
I have try all crosover , paralels , Native apple games like Resident Evil Village etc .....

All YouTube was flooded with "bloggers " praying for apple silicon performance comparing test showing how good apple silicon M1/M2/M3 with battery power and was doing same thing to windows laptop testing them on battery ..Where battery in windows is rated 90W and RTX say 4070/4080 have 175 W GPU Plus CPU possible another 120W
So system to run on peak performance need say 300W when they run on battery they get 30% performance

Not going from topic can we play on Apple silicon yes if will be lot of native games AA titles but at the moment can count to 5 and this all your games AA games

All these crosover translations windows games is time waste
How stupid need to be ? buy Mac for £2000 then emulate windows game possible will get HD resolution with some artifacts ......or crashes Where you can buy PS5 digital for £350 and buy game CyberPunk for say £50 and no issues

My Xbox X or PS5 is 10 Times more pleasure gaming then any game emulated or translated via corsover on mac

Depends on works as i will told 1000 times
When we buy apple MacBook eco system products need to know exactly what you want to run on them and check if software is available on apple eco system
80 % of population use internet browser, email client and MS office package So any apple computer with 8GB of ram will be more then you need
With 16 GB of ram can edit Photos and videos for home use etc.......
Does apple make bad laptop NO i have my self 2 x MacBook's Pro 16 and really like them as hardware devices

No the problem become with my M1 max is when you want to do works where there is no software available on apple eco system but it is available on windows
In each case will be different for all users in my case 3D works house rendering software then there was other 3D modeling software available on windows but not on apple
And all these emulations via Parallels or other VM to run windows software is like using laptop for 10 year ago performance

After 4 years with apple expensive friendship i learn the lesson that YES apple have good products
but the price what they asking is for maybe youtubers will be OK but for engineers apple product is no use at all .
I think the best buy is M3 MacBook air for less then £1000 i would want to have laptop where i can have good battery life etc ....
But for engineering/ CAD works my M1 Max is useless device better will be to have RTX 4090 where i can do 3D works
+ another disadvantage having Apple OS is that they locking they OS very hard and same time like adobe or other big developers use apple security system
Not much "unknown software " available to download ---- will be paying all subscription for for all your life

and another big problem with apple expensive MacBook's that when you buy MacBook this is what you will have all your life or will have dongles around laptop
I have 1 TB SSD M1 Max but it is clogging very fast always need to look for space or connect external dongle how annoying is this if I have windows laptop they have 2 SSD storages so I can upgrade to 4 TB x 2 (edited)

So to surmise, it doesn't have the software you want and you can't pirate it and use it for free?
You do realise there is Mac only software not available on windows as well right?

Not sure if it's a bargain at half that price.

The RAM upgrade alone is worth £800... if we use Apple's logic.

512gb SSD - pretty outrageous price gouging from Apple - as usual. They hope you'll part with £££ extra for more storage (which costs them peanuts).

Bought many Apple computers in the past when it was possible to upgrade the ram and hard drive yourself but its crazy the extortionate prices they are charging since deliberatly locking them down. But they can get away with it since people keep paying. I just couldn't stomach being taken advantage of that way and will go back to PC when my macs finally give up the ghost. To Apples credit the machines are of rock solid build and have lasted me years.

Just to let everyone know, this plays most games at 150-200 FPS at ultra quality.

    Finished playing CyberPunk 1977 yesterday.

Is this is same as the recent Sky deal?
    Jaxx471's avatar
The Sky Deal is a one-off payment of £25 + £41 x 48 (or can upgrade at 36) interest-free for the M3 Pro MacBook Pro with 18GB RAM, and 1TB Storage.

Works out to be £1,993 from Sky or £2,229.97 from Amazon for the exact same laptop.

    EDIT

The 512GB version (as per this deal) is £1,788 from Sky or £1,880 from Amazon. (edited)
