sorted byThe only thing between you and an electric shock when you touch the end is a resistor. All it needs is some damp or conductive dirt inside the screwdriver and you could end up getting a shock which could be fatal depending how electrically grounded you are at the time.
It's not even a good screwdriver, the blade is usually quite a soft metal alloy.
If you need a tool to verify whether something is live or not then go get something that will property test between live and neutral or earth. Not this.
Shocks occur more frequently on what has been tested not being "dead" because the screwdriver can give a false sense of security in fault conditions where low or backfeeding voltage is present.
The failure of the screwdriver itself to give out shocks is rarer but it does happen.
Go ask a qualified sparky if they would use one of these screwdrivers before working on potentially live cables and I would be very surprised if they would even admit to owning one let alone daring to use it.
