Going to be smashing these classics today. Fantastic deal.

If you want this to take advantage of your newer pc and modern aspect ratios on the original games, this is what I've done.

    - Download GZDoomhere: ZDoom - Downloads
    - Unzip the file.
    - Copy and paste the contents in the base folder of the game you want to mod (Mine for example was located in : D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Hexen\base)
    - Rename the old dosbox exe (I called mine dosbox.old.exe)
    - Rename the gzdoom.exe to dosbox.exe
-Launch from steam and configure your settings. Enjoy the classic with mouselook and modern controls.

EDIT: Just tested it on my Legion Go also, gamepad is supported so all you need to do is enable steam input - template Gamepad
Launch the game, go to Option - Controller Options - Enable controller support (Yes)

Proton DB rates them all high, so setting them to proton may make these playable. See here:

I'm pretty sure hexen is freeware these days, think it became abandoned in 1999

The source code has been released under a free licence. But you still need a copy of the game data to actually play it. ie a WAD file, which includes all of the graphics, sound, levels etc.

I remember playing hexen back in about 1996 when we go our first 'family pc'. I think it was bundled with doom or quake?

I loved Heretic but it looks awful today though. For 79p it's a great bit of nostalgia
    Mud8oy's avatar
You can get mods now that modernise it same as Hexen so it's more palatable for today's players
