I'm expecting this to go (freezing 🥶) cold due to the cost (not price) and the long delivery time of 8-11th July.

BUT I think this is a great price for a quality roomy roof tent with a 2 year guarantee.

It's €1899 from fjordsen directly and this large model is currently less costly than the medium one from sportspursuit.

With the Fjordsen Beyond X Large rooftop tent you experience 6,3 M3 of camping fun! The Fjordsen Beyond X Large has a clever construction, fresh-and-black cover to keep the lower temperatures inside and thoroughly tested platform.

Cooler inside

The Beyond X Large rooftop tent is made of special KeepCool material. Due to this technology, less light enters the rooftop tent, so that you can sleep in a cooler and darker space. Therefore, the temperature in the rooftop tent is lower.

As light as a feather, for any car

Due to the smart construction and the use of lightweight materials, the Fjordsen Beyond X Large rooftop tent has a relatively low weight. Therefore, the Fjordsen Beyond X Large rooftop tent can be mounted on almost any car. Even on a Volkswagen Up!

What is included?

You will receive your Fjordsen Beyond X Large rooftop tent in 4 boxes. You can assembly the Fjordsen rooftop tent yourself with our manual. Everything you need to install the Fjordsen Beyond X rooftop tent onto your car is included. You just have to make sure you have roofbars or a roof rack on your car and you're good to go. NB! The hinge protection is not included with the Fjordsen Beyond X Large rooftop tent.

How do these work when most roof bars have weight limits of less than one (me sized) person, never mind two?

HOW DO I FIND THE STATIC ROOF LOAD LIMIT FOR MY CAR?
The best way to find your static roof load limit is to multiply your dynamic roof load limit by 5x. So if your car has a 50kg dynamic roof load limit, your static limit would be 250kgs.

The reason for this, is that the forces exerted on your car roof when driving are amplified by at least 5x compared to when it is stationary. This is due to cornering, breaking, hitting bumps in the road, entering an incline in the road.

In other words, the force exerted on a car roof when driving with 50kgs of weight on top is the equivalent to the force of having at least 250kgs (5x) of weight on when top when the vehicle is stationary.

By the way, this has not only been calculated by our own engineers, but we have also spoken with car companies directly who have confirmed this to be accurate.

Impressive space in this one but be aware it does not come with a mattress (unlike just about every other roof tent I've seen.

Also it is self assembly with one of the most complex builds I've ever seen

So you get to the camp site and set up the tent, then realise you need to pop to the shops for something...

My roof tent takes about 3 mins to put down. It's not a problem.

Anyone actually camped on top of their car in one of these? I usually strategically park the car as a wind break for the tent!

not his model, but i have a well used roof tent

Completely pointless for use in the UK, and should be an interesting journey for a middle of the night pee.

Completely pointless? I use mine 30-40 times a year. On at least half those uses it would be completely impractical and sometimes impossible to pitch a conventional tent, the rest of the uses it would be way more hassle and far less secure to pitch a ground tent.

Would love one of these but at £800 I will just stick with a regular tent for £70-80 which I put on the ground.

You'd probably get one for £40 with similar features. There really is no need for one of these types of tents in the UK.

54kg is as light as a feather? I really wouldn't want a close encounter with one of them boids. OK, yes, I can see the advantage of a rooftop tent - having put up a tent away from all the others, on this nice flat bit that turned out to be a (for the moment) dry river bed. However, the classic British camp experience is cooking a hot meal under the canopy as the rain lashes down... Tricky that one.

I'll leave voting to those who know more about such things. I think that I would unload everything from the vehicle into the tent and then sleep in the car.

Good for when you need to hotbox on the go or for a portable Dutch oven.

You and your buddies can use it for whatever you wish.
I wouldn't recommend driving with it unfolded though

Feel the tent with helium and you'll be able to float over the pesky summer gridlock going to the beach 🏖️
