Don’t let any time go to waste when you’re decorating indoor or outdoor surfaces. If you use this Zinsser Cover Stain primer-sealer, your new wood trim can be primed, sanded and top-coated all on the same day.

Cover Stain will be touch-dry in 35 minutes, and recoatable in two hours – this fast-acting primer will help you get the job done quicker, saving you time and money. A generous coverage of up to 9.8m² per litre ensures each tin goes a long way, and it can be used under any solvent-based or water-based topcoat.

On interior surfaces, the quick-drying Cover Stain has great hiding power and permanently seals stains of all kinds – you can be confident your topcoats will be blemish-free. It is especially effective on nicotine and water stains.

Outdoors, Cover Stain’s unique formulation delivers full penetration and flexibility on all surfaces, especially dimensionally unstable wood panelling and trim – few oil-based primers can succeed here. It resists cracking and peeling and is compatible with all decorative top coats.

this is an oil based primer- sealer. very strong, very thick. zinsser also does a shellac based primer called BIN and a water based one called 123.

this oil one is the best for stains. it blocks in 1 coat. the shellac one is thin and can be used very effectively when you want to paint things like kitchen cupboards, providing youre willing to spray it. the water based one is the weakest and the easiest to use. good for when you have to paint over old woodwork oil finish and the new water based paint wont adhere to the surface without priming.

but the star of the show is zinsser allcoat. it is a no primer, no undercoat, all situations water based finish paint for exterior. you can use it on wood, stone, metal, glass, plastic with no priming and no undercoating. you will still need the same amount of coats to cover, but at the end of the job you wont have 3 half empty tins but just one. Says for interior and exterior on the tin so should be good.

Purchased this recently as a primer to cover wood knots, two coats of this and two coats of Gloss white and wood knots still appear SHish. Cold from me.

You should have used wood knotting first.

This paint is good if you have water stains to cover.
Takes two to three coats but it works.
Paint is getting so expensive nowadays

try an oil based undercoat instead.

The best cover primer sealer for any sort of stain on walls or ceiling. I've recommended this to numerous people and no one has been disappointed. Heat Op

could it be that no one used it?

If you have a Paint Shed store nearby you can use click and collect to get this for £15.40. If you only need 500ml that only costs £8.53.

These stain cover primers are hit and miss. Generally a can of gloss white spray paint is all you need. Spray, then coat with primer, then paint your desired cover coats. Same with mold paint. Clean surface with bleach first. I really don't rate these specialist paints.
