These are good but don't bother with the grass bag if you have a lot of moss or thatch in the lawn... you'll be for ever emptying it and it's quicker to just rake it up afterwards

Yeah completely agree - I made that mistake first of all too , I peg the flap open a bit so it doesn’t get clogged up , rake the big clumps up , then run my big mower over them to collect the remainder. It’s amazing just how much moss comes out - I filled up 2 wheelie bins on my front lawn only !

But the machine is very good & powerful and does the job well . (edited)

PS... make sure you kill the moss first (iron sulphate @ 4g per square metre) otherwise you'll just spread spores which will make the problem twice as bad next year

Yes, definitely do this. For the newbies, around 2 weeks before you intend to scarify.

Machine is well worth the money.

Just bought one. It's really very good but, as others say the bag fills up almost immediately. AND Screwfix currently give you another £10 off which I used -

Agree with all the above. Coincidentally bought one a couple of days ago; absolute mini marvel. Couldn't believe how much moss it removed; thought it was great value.

Is moss especially bad this year? How come?
A lot of people talking about it.
Mine's more moss than grass this year.

Is it too late to scarify for the spring, is it best to wait until autumn now? Considering it's still fairly rainy.
    Dave_dave69's avatar
    It's not too late.

Just ordered. Nearly killed myself a few years ago taking the lawn to do this. Hopefully this is quicker and easier.

Agreed using the bag is a waste of time.

If you’re thinking of buying… buy. I’ve got one and all the fellas with too much money and time on the lawn care groups speak fondly of this!!!!

I got this same one off eBay from this site for £37 back in Dec, so not a good price. Having just done my lawn in spring, I agree with all of the above.

personally wouldnt pick up the thatch with the mower after scarifying it may push debris back into the grooves you just created which you ideally want clear for any overseeding you need to do.

I was wondering this. Cheers Gerry.

How is this different to a lawn mower
    Towelie's avatar
It's more like an electric rake to put it simply.
