Can't comment on the item, but I just bought a 'genuine ZTE MF286D' (grade C) from this seller.

Arrived next day, as promised, so can't fault them there.

However it's pretty obviously a debranded 3 model; flashed with the Nordic B11 firmware, and with the 3 logo erased.

Sticker on the bottom still mentions Three_xxx as the default SSID (though they've attached a supplementary sticker outlining different login details), and every time you login to the web UI you're advised there's a firmware update ready, which predictably fails.

So not only are they trying to pass off debranded as genuine, but they've not even done the debranding properly!

If debranded had been what I was after, I'd have bought a 3 model & flashed it myself, not paid a premium for them to do it on the qt. (edited)

Just curious - will you keep it regardless and use it as-is?

Does anyone know if these can be unlocked to be able to take any mobile network sim card??
    TehJumpingJawa's avatar
3 don't *technically* sim lock their hardware anymore......
They just bastardize the firmware with hardcoded DNS settings that only work properly for SIMs that utilize the 3 network. (Smarty, id mobile, etc)

So what you need to know is if it's easy to flash these with a standard Huawei firmware.
Sadly I can't help you, but Google probably can.

good router bit glitchy on some WiFi 6 devices though

I grabbed this for my home WiFi and stuck a sim in and works perfectly, thankfully won't have to deal with the "lovely" Virgin Media or Sky again

I had the older model which was not sim locked to 3 and would take Vodafone and 02. I have one with an external aerial with 6ft wires and can get great speeds where I am. Very generic answer but might help someone.

Any chance you could advise the exact model number please?

They go for around £95 on eBay auctions if you’re in no rush.

Does the RJ11 TEL PORT allow calls thru the SIM with an attached phone or is the port disabled like on the Three Branded devices?

What is the relevance of this?

Any idea what the antennas are like? I have a ZTE MC801a but it's the international T-Mobile version with the ports disabled, have had to mount it to the window and it looks horrific.

All the routers like this I've had in the past I've also had to place next to a window, no matter the antenna. Thinks it's just the downside of the tec.

Is this any better than the router your get with Three 5G home broadband? Thinking about taking the SIM card out of that and putting it in this to improve internet in the bedrooms.
    Namrofni10's avatar
I think it's the same thing. What's wrong with the one Three gave you? Is it slow?

I am thinking of using three WiFi

On contract and with the router inclusive

Any reason to buy this instead of on contract and using the provided router
    mouse.mouse's avatar
Go on one month contract with topcashback . Try it out first . I found I had no 5G signal with Three where I live. I cancelled and got topcashback as well. (edited)

I have this router, but where can I buy the RJ11 attenan?

Do you mean RJ11 cable or the antannae as shown in the picture at the top of this deal. Plenty on eBay and Amazon for both. Just search on Google also adding the Huawei model.

Is the same router you get when taking out their 5G home broadband?

I think they have moved to ZTE now but others who actually use the service may help for sure.

If you are able just tether your phone. Same some money that way.
    potnoodle's avatar
Phones get very hot when u tether for a long time, plus it will eat the battery up too.
  17. Ducklinggg's avatar
Isn't this one better in grade C?

Does anyone know about how this one works compares with Zyxel NR5103e?

Good question. I would also like to know from people's first hand experience. Maybe worth posting by someone as a deal in its own right and see what comments we get
