Yeh, I take the above really with a very small pinch of salt. Who actually buys the exact same 48 popular items? For example someone could replace just one or more of those 'popular' items with supermarkets own cheaper brand and suddenly they have moved up the scale a few places!

Shame their fuel is rubbish especially diesel

    AndrewMS3
Intereresting. Defintion of rubbish? and then you carried out some sort of test to determine that.
if its rubbish, in the sense it's no good for your car then there will be a lot of people filing up having issues with their cars. Studies/statistics? Then we come to, what I think you are referring to, your own experience and/or others you have heard about. Well, article from WHICH ..and I quote:
...Opting for cheaper supermarket unleaded is a convenient way for you to save a few pounds every time you fill up. But should you be concerned about the quality of the fuel you’re using?
The short answer is no. All unleaded fuel sold in the UK conforms to the same British Standards, so you shouldn’t consider supermarket fuel to be below par. However, there are small differences between fuels. These could offer subtle benefits, depending on what sort of car you drive.

You’d be better off spending the £35 on a Costco card and saving money for the next 12 months

Buying 50 litres of fuel on a dry tank would "save" £2.50. Cold as ever.

Exactly. Even with Costco membership price I'm saving a fortune on fuel going there .

If you take this discount to my local Morrison's petrol garage sadly it still makes it 3p more expensive then other local garages

I paid £1.17 /ltr of diesel the last time I filled (yesterday), mind you I am in Spain where they don't rip you off as much. Is the energy crisis just a ripoff to create big profits? (edited)

Well it's £1.35 now in Spain. Government ended the discount. But still cheaper than the UK.

Have you seen the prices in Morrisons? a pack of £1.75p Ham is now £3.99, you are not saving any money at all when you spend £35! Probably cheaper to check Petrol Prices and drive for 10mins to save on fuel, certainly not by spending £35 on a few items that are massively overpriced, as above, it's a RIP OFF!

Spending £35 in morrisons means you'll spend the saving in petrol on their over priced groceries so no win situation, except for morrisons of course

Absolutely. Morrisons are more expensive than Tesco and sainsburys.

I shop regularly at Morrison's as it's near work but I only go in for the yellow sticker bargains so rare I spend over £10!
    Pigsy.'s avatar
    Pigsy.
Last and final time I was there, bought a chicken and stuffing Pukka Pie for £3.50 - that was the "yellow label" price, just checked online and Sainsburys/Tesco sell them at £3.50, I think it was reduced from around £4.35 - so, even the yellow label stuff is pretty much the same price as other stores. Only good thing about that place is that the Bakery is good quality - but, just too damned expensive!

Just be careful they haven’t added an additional 5p to the fuel so the discount doesn’t actually exist.

This sort of comment makes me chuckle so much, supermarket fuel comes from the same refineries as the major stations, which means ITS ALL THE SAME! BP, Shell and the rest just add their own pointless stuff to it so they can sell their fake 'Premium' for an inflated price, but the standard shell unleaded and diesel is exactly the same product as the supermarkets.

reminder, this is not a deal. This is never a deal

Aldi/Lidl is £20 cheaper on your average shop
    this saves £2.50

they do have some nice cheese and onion pasties though. Miss the days of Netto and 7p Baked beans myself.

Unless you are a regular shopper at Morrisons not much help. I use a petrol price app and Morrisons is never the cheapest in our area. I was told by an ex employee (of a large supermarket chain)they usually do this mid December and at points in January to get people to spend.

5p off and I bet they are still laughing all the way to their directors and shareholders having come up with a moiney making idea. Dont forget that is exactly what this is - no two ways about it.
If they were not going to make something from this they would not do it - SIMPLES. (edited)

Nationalise fuel prices! We're effectively doing so with gas & electricity now. Still a rip-off, but less so and same price wherever you go.

If Costco can manage to sell fuel 15p cheaper makes you think how we're getting fleeced by supermarkets & co. (edited)

Exactly I 💯% agree with You Sqsq! 35p Cheaper in Oldham Costco compared where I live

If they can afford to give 5p off a litre for a promotion, it makes me think the normal price must be a real rip off.

This is what's known as a lost leader. They are losing money on the fuel whilst gaining money from people buying things from the store. Some people who wouldn't usually shop there will do it for the voucher or those that were about to spend £25 would spend another £10 to get the voucher.

Unleaded has dropped by 15p a litre in my local area over Christmas, Morrisons haven't dropped their prices and have gone from being the cheapest to the most expensive.

Obviously preparing themselves for this "deal"

I can't believe this deal is going hot.
    Morrisons pricing is terrible.
They could give 20p off a litre and you'd still save money going elsewhere

    Hi all
    Regarding Morrisons fuel.
You only have to google to find that they have had numerous issues over many years regarding dirty or contaminated fuels from some of forecourts resulting in numerous legal compensation claims from irate customers.

Obviously issues with fuel but who is to blame

Fuel may come from same refineries but not all fuels are the same quality as additives may be added or not.

Am not getting involved with the argument all fuels are the same brigade
    Cause they simply aint.

I have found that  some supermarket fuels are better quality than others

Would I purchase fuel from Morrisons then i would answer no as from experience there fuel is poor quality

    Others will always disagree but
Again its a personal choice 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Quite contrary to other comments. Morrisons is actually the cheapest for fuel per litre near me (marginally) Other than a Costco but I'm not a member and don't fancy the crazy queues for fuel.

As a bonus I get 4% off Morrisons fuel anyways (mystaffshop)

My local Costco is 15 miles away, and only 4p cheaper than Tesco down the road.
Not worth the petrol cost to drive there and back.

Cheapest in my area already so brings it to 142.7. If only Leeds had a Costco petrol station

Oil at it's 2nd lowest price in a year but exchange rate quite a way off on 1.4$/ £1 that we were getting a year ago.

The most encouraging thing about this is is the best indicator yet that the big buyers are confident the long term cost of fuel is going back to where it was pre Ukraine and expected to stay there. Nobody did this kind of discounting while the prices were high and volatile.

Worst fuel ever. Also they demand helmets off from bikers. Not a pleasure when its cold and wet. Avoid.
