Increasing evidence that long term use of Certirizine increases risk of dementia. Personally have switched to Loratadine. Good price though, but if old age memory impairment is a concern just be aware.

Can't find much about dementia risk by Googling but did find an article that says second and third generation Antihistamines , which both Cetirizine and Loratadine are, are less likely to cause memory problems than earlier types. Looks like Loratadine is in the same boat. Have taken that before but after a few weeks it is less effective for me , Cetirizine works all the time.

My top tip for hay fever suffers is to listen to an episode of the BBC Radio 4 consumer programme Sliced Bread. A recent episode covering hay fever treatments is available on the BBC Sounds app.

Incidentally, last year l went my gp due to bad hay fever and she recommended upping the dose of hay fever tablets to up to four per day. NOTE Please obtain medical advice before doing the same. Also recommended Becanase nasal spray which works a treat when things are really bad but should not to be used continuously as it can irritate the nasal passages.

Four tablets instead of one a day?

Yes, that's what I was told. Like you l queried it but that's what l was told.

Really depends on what anti-histamine you are on. I was prescribed Chlorphenamine by my GP last year for a severe allergic reaction and told to take up to six a day if necessary. However l was also clearly told that advice did not apply to other anti-histamines. (edited)
