If you're purely a gamer, it's not worth all that extra money (it trades blows with the 7800X3D).
If you're not a gamer, get the non-3D version.

If you game/stream and do a lot of productivity work, then this CPU will suit you.

even then a gamer should secure an RTX4090 first before even thinking about shelling out so much cash for a CPU like this.

This CPU doesn't match the single thread performance (it's not far off) of an i9-13900KS, the standard 7950X gets closer, but all three CPUs are very close in overall compute. This is cheaper than the Intel offering though. Also for productivity AMD has released a newer AGESA version which allows higher DDR5 memory speeds for memory critical operations.

The new AMD AM5 AGESA 1.0.0.7B BIOS update adds support for faster DDR5-8000 speeds >

    Should you buy it?

    1. You're solely a gamer. No
    2. You want the bragging rights for fastest AM5 CPU: No this isn't the fastest overall, the 7950X is, also for gaming 7800X3D is as good as this.
    3. You have some specific AI/ML workloads that can utilise the 3D cache and you need the multithread performance. It might be tricky to manage the workloads due to the 2 x 8 core CCDs, one with 3D cache and one without but clocks higher.

It's a tricky one this CPU, I guess for high end gaming and higher end productivity it makes sense, however a 7950X can do both too and you have more power for only £520.

So in my opinion as the 7950X only costs £520 you should buy that instead.

Can confirm the 7950X is an absolute weapon and will handle all gaming needs (edited)

Must resist! Not a big enough leap from a 5950X but it's a good price. (edited)

Heck of a CPU, vastly overkill for most people but nice price.

Been this price for a week or so. If anyone uses Complete Savings, buying on ebay (from Ebuyer/Box/Tech Next Day...cant remember which) ends up costing 575ish after cashback (edited)

    This is cheaper £601.96?

I would get this: hotukdeals.com/dea…088 and use the money towards a better GPU? (tho CPU is used)

Get a 7800x3d. Much faster than the 7950 in games.

Very little reason to purchase it over an 8 core 7800x3d.
    Minstadave's avatar
Not at all, many workloads can make good use of twice the multitasking performance.
