Would this be better than a standard virgin router and is so is it much hassle to set up?

As this doesn't have a modem, you'll need to use your VM Hub 3/4 along with this, here is the simple procedure:

If your main requirement is to significantly increase WiFi range, I would recommend investing in a Mesh system instead after doing a little research on your requirements - size of the area you need to cover for a start (edited)

It's a Belkin. You'd have to pay me to have one.

    Replying to

I've had a few Belkin products over the years. They're cheap for a reason, and this is very cheap for an AX1800 router. Perhaps they're just trying to shift stock before it gets EOL'd since it is also £29.99 at eBuyer (plus delivery), which doesn't give confidence that is is a good product. My experience is that Belkin products are mediocre at best. Stability and UI were never strong points. This might be OK, but I'd be cautious.

EDIT: The OP changed the deal from Amazon to eBuyer. This is why I mentioned eBuyer in my initial post. (edited)

    OpenWRT Support?

Doesn't appear to have DD-WRT support either.

I have this, it works really well, but at the same time people are very wary of Huawei especially as an internet router

Ebuyer still charging extortionate delivery prices to northern Ireland. They use 3 day (2nd class) delivery, which should be no more than £4.95, and charge almost £13 + vat. I don't know how trading standards allows them to get away with this.

This is also £29.99 on amazon with delivery included for Prime customers. (edited)

This deal was pointing to Amazon initially but OP has changed it to eBuyer. I'm guessing they changed it because it is "usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months" on Amazon right now.

Can this be used as WiFi extender?

This thing has the finest reviews I've ever seen

Have bought - at £29.99 nothing to lose really I can find a friend with a Virgin Media souper hub and give it to them out of kindness if I can't find a use for it. Similar CPU/RAM wise to the ASUS RT-AC85P on here a few months back in Amazon Warehouse (that was £45). I put OpenWRT on it and had a play around and it wasn't bad.

    Better or worse signal?
  11. jfman0's avatar
The ASUS had better signal but it has proper antenna albeit AC not AX. The Belkin arrives tomorrow.

Updated link to ebuyer as the amazon stock sold out, but ebuyer have it available at the same price.

Any good to replace the bog standard NOW TV Router ?
    Simpson317's avatar

This does not have a built in modem, so you'd need to have either your current router in modem only mode or buy a separate modem if the now tv one doesn't have that feature.

Anybody know if it has OpenVPN client functionality?
  15. jfman0's avatar
Not on the stock firmware. You’d need to flash OpenWRT

Does this work without the need to use the Sky router? I currently have a Huawei ax3 pro, but I still have to use the Sky router as a modem.
    Thanks!
    Crossbow's avatar
No, as this doesn't have an inbuilt modem.
You'll need to buy a modem-cum-router in order to completely replace the Sky hub with a single box. (edited)

OP, why aren't you listing the minimum postage cost of £3.49 in the price? This is misleading. I know your deal was originally pointing to Amazon (which is currently out of stock but dispatched within 1 to 2 months), but please update the information.

    Edit: Mod has fixed. (edited)
