If you stay within the resort your chance of death is very slim, however there is no questioning jamaica is the most dangerous place on earth currently, 1500 murders per year on an island less than 5% the size of the uk, the rates are set to be much higher this year and they're in a state of emergency
Personally i couldn't think of anything worse than being restricted to the complex but for some its the perfect holiday sitting around doing nothing (edited)

its the accomodation and food which is really expensive. better off going for an all inclusive holiday

I heard there are a lot of murders and people getting kidnapped recently in Jamaica so might be why the flights are cheap
