I'm still in two minds about it. I'm not sure if I'm trying to force …I'm still in two minds about it. I'm not sure if I'm trying to force myself to like the bulky camera at the back. I'm torn between this and the samsung s21 currently (I'm not mad on the camera at the back of that either but it doesnt seem as in your face as the pixel)...anyone have any experience with the s21 or can give an opinion on which phone between the two is better?

I've made the move from S21 to P6 Pro. I'll try and give as fair and unbiased opinion as I can and most/all what I say is both my opinion and subjective to each individual.

TLDR: both phones honestly are great, and I'm happy with both. But the Pixel pips the post for me, the users experience with the software, keyboard, cameras beat out the Samsung, though in some cases only just. Factoring price in, the Pixel is an absolute smashing phone at the price point.

    Dimensions.
    Win:. Samsung S21
I've got small hands, and making the slight increase in size didn't bother me one bit. The size/weight are comfortable for me, but, with the S21 being that bit lighter and smaller, it is more comfortable for long sessions watching YouTube. That being said, the screen real estate is a bonus on the P6 for such instances also.

    Design.
    Win: Pixel 6 Pro
I'm a fan of (slightly) curved screens, and personally think the camera bar at the back is both unique, pleasing and functional. With it filling the width of the phone, you no longer get that rocking effect when laying flat on a table or something. Which has become the norm with every other phone. I like how Google has stepped away from the trend, even slightly. The curved edges make the phone easier to hold than the size would let on. I've always loved Samsung screens, and think they are the best in the business, there's a reason most companies use their tech! The screen on the P6 Pro However is very good. Won't say it's better, but coming from a Samsung, you won't be disappointed.

    Software
    Win: Pixel 6 Pro
I think One UI has come a long long way from its origins, and do think it's a lot more polished than it used to be. That being said, I think the Pixel provides a more polished user experience. Some minor notes: screenshots are instant on P6, whereas S21 it's delayed. Swype keyboard gestures are much more accurate on P6 as is the keyboard layout in general. S21 keyboard, space bar tends to be off set to the left, and when I naturally use my right thumb, I tend to miss the spacebar a lot. Pixel seems snappier/smoother in the UI - though I wonder how much this is due to Android 12. Screen brightness - pixel can go dimmer, so easier on eyes at night. Found S21 too bright at lowest setting.

    Camera
    Win: Pixel 6 Pro
The video has come a long long way from previous Pixels. Whereas before it was generally photos = Pixel, video = Samsung/iPhone, that's not always the case now. A lot will come down to personal preference as Pixel opts for what seems to be their own style of photos, just like the Samsung too. Magic eraser - I think will be better than most people think it will. Plenty of phones next year will implement their own take I think. Photos/videos are very close, and honestly think most will come down to personal preference over styles than actual tech performance

    Battery life
    Win: Draw
Way too early to tell as the device settles down, learns my use and shuts down the apps I don't use. But I can say I'm more than happy on battery use from both phones. I would expect more from the Pixel once it's settled down. My S21 would average 1day 16hrs, I forget the SOT but it'll be high as I watch a lot of YouTube vids

    Speakers
    Win: Samsung
I was both surprised and disappointed with the Pixel speakers. I was surprised with how "Full" they were, and included a LOT of low end, if there's such a thing in small phone speakers. But this is where I thought let it down also... When watching videos with a lot of dialogue, it can sometimes be hard to hear and found myself turning the volume up. Whereas S21 I'd watch most videos on the first or 2nd click up on volume rocker and sound was balanced, flat and neutral. That's not to say the Pixel speakers are bad - but if I had to choose - Samsung. Pixel speakers are loud when cranked up, clear, and full. Just found my specific use case to not be as clear in dialogue as Samsung.

Okay, so the Pixel Stand 2 is up for pre-order now.

I had a chat with Google support, the credit won't come till 30 days after dispatch, not after ordering and not after it was received.

I think you all know that, I was just optimistic.

They don't know when it will be in stock.

I asked them if I could pre-order then change the payment method later, since it wasn't going to be in stock for a while anyway.

At first they said no, you only have an hour after placing the order to change it.

They said they would check the terms for pre-orders and they found that orders can be amended until the item ships (which I think actually means until the order gets sent to the warehouse).

So, I placed an order and I can't edit the payment method. I can just edit the delivery address or cancel.

When you pre-order, they also take the money straight away. In my experience, it will be a fortnight or so until they return the money for a cancelled order.

So I've done that experiment so you don't need to

I really need the charger, so I'll probably leave it as it is until the credit comes. (edited)

Camera is great, especially the 4x - really loving it for portraits. Everything about the UI is fluid and buttery smooth - this is how Android should have been since a long time. Battery for me has been great - 6h 30+ SOT within 28 hours off the charger, much more than I've gotten from previous phones. The new OS features exclusive for Pixel are really, really good - the dictation is just another level and quite a game changer (if you haven't tried it, try it right now).At first I was ready to box it up and return it, now I'm 95% confident I'll be keeping it - just need a different case to the one I have now (Spigen Tough Armour) and a screen protector that actually fits.

Summary from the Flossy carter review of the pro. Probably the best review I've seen. Always honest, to the point and focusses on what people care about and real world use. He also buys all the phones he reviews (despite being sent review units) to make sure he's reviewing the retail versions.

    Good points
    Price is good.
Incredible camera - probably the best point and shoot camera for portrait mode on any phone.
Amazing battery - after a few days of it learning your habits - which apps to keep open in the background etc.
Text to speech and translate are better than any other phone.
    Great speakers.
Lovely screen, aside from the curved edges which he's not a fan of.
Stability of sotware is better than any other.
Will still feel slick after 3 years (based on previous pixels)

    Bad points
    No charger in the box.
Slow fingerprint sensor (alleviated by having smart lock on so that it doesn't lock when at home)
    Power button placement too high.
    No cinematic video mode.
    No macro camera.

Said he'd rank it third overall out of Android phones (after Mi 11 ultra and S21 ultra). Also said for a work phone it's the best Android available.

Summarized by sayings if you're considering it and in the fence then just buy it.

I ordered from Curry's yesterday to benefit from the free Bose 700's and was concerned that I would not be eligible - spoke with Curry's and they confirmed it has been pulled but IS available in store (weirdly). I spoke with Google as it's their offer and as at today, the list of participating retailers includes the Dixons/Currys Group. He advised I am eligible to claim (and I have a copy of the transcript saved, as well as a copy of the current promo website).

Hope this helps those who have ordered. (edited)

Well yeah, we can compare GHz, cores and geekbench all day long but real world will be a different story. Put an 888 in a Samsung and it'll flop, hard. Put an 888 in a Pixel and it'll fly.

My Pixel 5 is faster to use than my S20 Ultra, but the benchmarks say the S20 Ultra thrashes it.

I get that raw compute benches will always be a level playing field, but absolutely disagree every day of the week that it's remotely relevant to real life device experience. It fails to take account of storage speed, OS efficiency and memory.
