    My suggestion to avoid eWaste:

If you have a spare/oldish 4 port Gigabit router (most of them are) , that will act as a switch too. (Albeit, you will get a max of 3 or 4 Gigabit ports). I have done it before. Totally unmanaged and straight forward option !

Any idea if adding this step would increase lag? Currently just got one cable from my router to the ps5 and it's the only one available which is annoying.

It technically does, but not noticeable. When I mean not noticeable, you usually measure latency in ms - millisecond, an unmanaged switch may add a few MICROseconds, so for example most add around 0.003-0.005ms.

Is this any better than the one linked that I bought in 2017 for £10 or are they effectively the same?

Effectively the same. Not worth upgrading to this. If it's still working, then point in creating more e-waste.

Good point! The benefits of doing this would also be that you'd be able to use it a WiFi Access Point too. This off-course will depend on how much of the configuration on it isn't locked down.

Have to be a little careful though, if you're using an old ISP router and the DHCP is turned on on the LAN side, it could cause issues on your LAN, so it'd be best to turn it off and configure the routers LAN and Wireless Interfaces to be in your main LAN (use IP addressing, DNS & gateway from your main LAN).

Indeed. One can also have another SSID too, if necessary (guests/children etc)

if i have a router connected to a switch, and this switch connected to that switch will that work?

Yes. As long as all the ports from the router to your existing switch, and from your existing switch to this new switch are in the same VLAN. If you've just got a standard non-managed switch, then that would the case.

Damn, would've been a definite cop if was POE

I'd be surprised to get a 5-port POE at any where near this price. Whats the cheapest you have found so far, as it sounds like you are looking?

Still voted hot due to the price, but I think the TP link switches are better and more efficient and amazon got many on offer also. (edited)

mate it's the same company, you even get a warranty card with the product stating TP-Link Warranty.

Definetly worth the extra spend upfront if you intent on using the switch long-term.
